Some of the best F2P Light cards

in Gods On Chain2 years ago

Hello folks! It's Axii here. Weekend ranked is almost here, and as part of the series, I will be sharing with you all some of the best F2P cards of the Light domain. The list will be more helpful towards newer players who want to serve Thaeriel and become his Champion of Light.

Again, the cards listed below are my personal favorites that are pretty strong, cheap, and relatively popular in the current meta. All stats are collected using GU Decks website in the past 30 days.

That's enough for the opening I guess, let's dive right in!!

1 mana

1. Blind Martyr ($6.06) Although the card is valued at roughly $6, I feel like I have to include it in the list. As a 0/2 frontline body, the card is terrible, but its afterlife ability is what makes it a threat. Light has strong supports for the swarm archetype, and if the card buffs at least 2 creatures with the +2 health, it's already valuable for its cost. Fyi, Blind Martyr has the highest play rate 1-mana drop of the Light domain.

2. Ritual Rod ($4.27) Ritual Rod is just a great value card. You can just play Ritual Rod turn 1 and have the potential to control the board in the next few turns with 2 2-strength attacks. If you control a Mystic creature you get 1 more attack. It gets better and better yeah?

3. Empyrean Pacifist ($2.63) This card definitely falls into the category of must-answer. It's a slow engine with backline that gets stronger with each creature to be summoned. If you cannot answer Empyrean Pacifist in the first few turns, it will slowly grow into a beast that can eventually become an unsurpassable front wall.

1. Devoted Follower ($0.49) You might say Axewoman can easily answer this card and therefore, it's not that strong. You are correct, but most of the time, this card is annoying to deal with. The ward protects it from spells, the 3-strength hurts, and when you use a bigger creature to attack it, well, your creature gets -2 strength FOREVER! Overall, Devoted Follower is a solid 2-mana drop to put 2 copies in your deck. It's also the most played 2-mana non-Welcome set drop of the Light domain.

2. Chalice Priest ($3.25) Chalice Priest is the 23rd most played Light card, appearing in over 154,000 GU matches in the last 30 days. Its ability can either buff an allied unit or debuff an enemy unit and set its strength to 2 every turn. Having the backline ability and 4 health makes Chalice Priest quite tanky. Personally, it's a semi must-answer card in the long run.

3 mana

3-mana is a stacked division in the Light domain, simply because it has many good cards at a cheap cost (dollar-wise).

1. Light's Levy ($0.61) Light's Levy is the 3rd most played card that is not from the Welcome set. Without a doubt, it's easily a key card of any Light decks out there. You get to "remove" an enemy creature (2 strength or less) AND get yourself a 2/2 body on the board. I'm talking about board control here! At the cost of $0.61, the card is busted, that's it!

2. Bright Mage ($0.47) Bright Mage is my favorite 3-mana drop for several reasons. Ward protects it from a spell, the 3/3 body is fine, and the healing ability can be used on a God. The mystic tag can help if you wanna follow up with a Ritual Rod as mentioned in the 1-mana section. If you have a spare dollar, you can get 2 copies of the card and still get 5 cents left, absolutely bonkers!

3. Radiant Dawn ($1.18) This card is ridiculous. It's a swarm payoff for a swarm domain and has pretty much no downside. To be honest, I smell a nerf on Radiant Dawn in a near future.

4. Watchful Hound ($0.09) By "locking" an enemy creature for 10 turns, and if that creature is an important one, Watchful Hound forces the opponent player to spend resources to kill the Hound and save the "prisoner". The stats are similar to Bright Mage and the doggy card art is cute, so there's absolutely no reason to not run it in your deck :D

4 mana

1. Holy Enchanter ($0.32) Holy Enchanter is a swarm payoff card just like Radiant Dawn but it places a 2/4 creature on your side of the board. It's an okay card if you manage to give +2 health to at least 2 other creatures on deploy.

2. Imperious Smite ($0.33) The Light domain has a lot of control tools and Imperious Smite is a quite effective tool. Although the card has a downside by destroying a "random" creature (including your side), it rarely bricks as you should see Light decks going wide much more often than going tall.

5 mana and above

1. Battle Cleric ($0.87) Battle Cleric is a swarm card that also poses as a threat that should be answered quickly. Although the stats don't look too good, "backline" provides some sort of protection to it. Even if your opponent removes it immediately, Battle Cleric still puts 2 creatures on your board at the end of the turn, so that's something, at least.

2. Helios Justicar ($1.63) I like this card A LOT. The random order can be extremely handy in some situation. It goes through Ward, it can temporary disable a frontline or a big creature for your creatures to go face. Combo-ing up with Divine Judgement, holy Jesus that's an insta-kill to any creature ignoring Ward. In fact, I'm surprised that the card is valued at only $1.63 giving its playability.

3. Golden-Winged Sphinx ($1.06) GWS is simply a value card at 5 mana. It has the exact stats as Helios Justicar. The Frontline is handy, the Protected is good against Slayer or Soul Burn, and the afterlife effect can be your key to board control. All in al, GWS is a good card at 5 mana.

4. Purification Filter ($0.31) Purification Filter is the 15th most played Light card in the past month of Gods Unchained. Generally, you can consider the card as an updated version of Imperious Smite: higher mana at the cost of consistency (enemy creature, not a random one) and a cool stats buff of +2/+2 to a creature of yours. It's another cheap but definitely strong control card that you can add to your collection!

Summing up

These are the 15 strong Light cards that you can add to your deck at some very affordable price. As usual, some of them can be considered "must-have" while some others are not. Feel free to test them out and see what performs best for you.

Would love to try some light decks soon especially cause it is the last god that I have not talked about yet!

Light decks are fun to play. Hope you feel the same!

Changing from god to god every once in a while is good to enjoy the game more so definitely I will!

Need play with more good and learn how to play with them. I usually pick #light

I started playing Light a bit ago still long way to go!

Just tried nature deck and went well...

Nice job. Also remember that Battle Cleric is getting ward! This is going to be huge for him, and will mean he can actually be played. Lots of light cards getting buffed in the CSR.

Not aware with this news, going to check it. Tks

Thanks a lot for your input. I hope people don't forget about the huge upcoming changes. Personally, Light is such a fun God to play and I wish more players realize this!!
