Naturally keep in mind you're sharing this story on an immutable blockchain so make sure it's not something you'd regret having shared later.
But got this idea from reading a recent askreddit thread and remembered something I may not have posted here before. Also curious what hivers would have to share!
Either way, this is something that has happened to me.
I was in a city in finland which I usually don't visit often, especially not that section. I had to get some books from the library for something I was studying at the time. It was winter and a very snowy one, there were heaps on the side of the road and sand everywhere to prevent sliding and falling.
I was checking my phone for Google maps to make sure I make my way back since I had exited through the other library exit which required me to go a slightly different route for a few blocks. As I was walking I stopped around the corner and tried to light up a cigarette (I had recently started smoking after military service). Usually the lighter would work on the first try but maybe cause it was extra windy or cause I was right in the corner of a building it took me a couple extra tries to get it to work.
Either way, I continue walking and look put my phone away now as I'm about to walk onto the same road I came from at the next intersection when all of a sudden a loud noise and an explosion of snow on the ground erupts right in front of me, it couldn't have been further than a couple meters. I stood there looking around to see if anyone had noticed what just happened, there was no one else on that side of the street. I look up and notice this giant curtain of snow and ice at the top of th3 building close to falling over the roof and then I notice the yellow plastic line at the side of the sidewalk. I should not have walked there as it was prone for snow/ice fall from the roof. I quickly hug the wall and make my way to the intersection real quick and keep thinking how close I was to just getting my head smashed in or body badly injured from what must've been at least half a kilo of ice and snow crashing right in front of me.
Also was kind of thankful my lighter didn't work properly that one time out of all times as maybe I would've been a few steps ahead in that case and right in its trajectory.
Or you know, don't just look at your phone when walking so you don't enter streets that are meant to be closed off.
Anyway, anything happened to you that you couldn't believe?
Don't think Sora understood what I meant with my prompt, if it was this obvious I would've noticed it xD.
Forfeiting half of the author rewards.
For the first.. ten live music events I ever went to, I managed to pluck a guitar pick out of the air when they were thrown into the crowd at the end of songs, or at the end of the show.
I haven't caught one in about 5 years now. :D I've gone to more concerts, so my success rate is always falling.
Dang lol, beginners luck fading I guess!
I haven't been to too many but a friend I was with at a metallica concert in finland managed to get one of Lars' drumsticks which was quite cool. Don't think he went to too many either but we were also very very close to the stage after having queued and endured a lot of screechy teenagers through Linkin Park before the main event. xD
I ended up giving them to my sister in law (who plays guitar, and bass) - as part of her 40th birthday present. Meanwhile, now that I've started trying to pick up the guitar myself, I think, dang, it would be cool to have those guitar picks...
I almost caught a few when I went to see Within Temptation in the last few months, but they probably went to people who would have appreciated the more than me - not necessarily the screechy teenagers you speak about, but people who were incredibly passionate about the band.
I mean, I drove ~800KM to go see them, but that is by the by...
That is one stunning photograph!
There are so many things in my life that have been a fuck me moment, but thought I would share this one from a "climbing through windows" road trip round Estonia I took a few years back.
Middle of July, the sun was cracking the flagstones it must have been in the upper
80's F, when I spied a roof top of a one storey shack through the trees. off a dirt road I was driving down, (most Estonian roads off the beaten track are as rough as fuck, let me tell you!).
I had to pull up to investigate, the shack was overgrown with weeds and nettles not a visible footpath to the front door which was a jar. Always a good sign.
I entered through what was a kitchen, cobwebs and detritus a plenty, there was a door leading off a short hallway at the back, as is my way of mooching, always start at the top and work back.
A room to my right,an inward opening door with a wooden bar firmly across the frame to prevent it being opened from inside. Why I asked myself. I soon found out, removing the bar and opening the door, the first thing that hit me was the heat blast, the second in the dim light the number of empty alcohol bottles strewn around.
Then the FUCK ME moment, a man, an obese man, sweating, red in the face, encased in a plaster cast completely covering his upper torso and one arm starting to try and stand up, mumbling incoherently, eyes glazed not focussed.
Mine were!
I am too old to run, but I walk quickly, very quickly indeed sometimes. This was one of those times. In fact I think I fucking ran back to the car pedal to the metal and away. Not because of the "prisoner" but if someone returned I could have been locked up with him!!
Discretion is the better part of valour!!
Questions still unanswered, why was he locked in that room from the outside, in such extreme heat, why was he encased in plaster, why the alcohol bottles, and why the fuck didn't I grab some quick snaps!
The banner is created with AI btw, not a photo:D
Damn sucker punch to the guts. It's a shit photo then LOL
Oh yeah 😂
Accumulated around 1.5 bch (571$) after more than a year of microbloggig art on noise.cash. It was my entry into crypto platforms so I was extra careful when it comes to storing passwords. I wrote the wallet seeds on a paper and kept 3 backups but somewhere along the way I moved them to a different wallet but only kept the seeds on my phone. My old phone had software issues and had to be formatted immediately but I thought I saved the screenshot of seeds on gcloud but I never checked to make sure if it was uploaded properly(it didn't🥹) before formatting which was incredibly foolish to forget but I was in a rush to fix the phone because I really needed it to work for something. Needless to say I lost all the funds and on top of that lots of scams were rampant in the BCH Blockchain so my nft work pay which was paid in spice token is now locked because of low liquidity issues and some kind of bridging issues. It was extra painful for me because I was drawing on a paper and then import the rough sketch photo I made on paper to my phone and paint it using my finger.
Well that what happens when you are a crypto noob I guess. I learned my lesson and I'm very through when it comes to these kind of things now. Still sucks though. I probably lost around 800$ in total which could have got me a really good gaming laptop or a scooter sigh!
I would probably be still depressed if it wasn't for Hive. Everything noise.cash lacked, Hive has it!
Incredibly greatful to be on this platform:)
Haha! What a close call!
One of those events happened to me recently.
I was back in the big city I lived in for a couple decades, hanging out with old friends and performing at our yearly concert. Driving a friend home after 1am, we see the car in front of us swerving erratically and bailing up the wrong way up a 1-way street.
“Dude that guy is coming right at us in our lane!” I know I know. Honk, flash flash pull over slow down honk, avoid…. I moved over far enough to feel the concrete barrier on my tires with nowhere else to go. One last flash and come to a complete stop hoping he would snap out of it.
Wham. My buddy pops out of the door with his phone, starts videoing, goes up to the guys window, tells him he hit 3 cars and needs to pull over. He looks surprised, says ohfuck and drives away!
Turns out he was blackout drunk and just as dumb. We fished his license plate from the video, they found him and charged him.
The good news is nobody was hurt, the car was drivable so I wasn’t stranded, and somehow the airbag didn’t go off or I would have had a broken face from the housing it springs from.
Definitely a close call that could have gone better or way worse. Crisis + time = humor.
ugh, it's weird to me that alcohol is so much more common and acceptable to say something like weed. There's no way anyone's going to drive if they are high, especially not fast and carelessly.
True that.
If I was that high and stupid enough to drive, I would be slow as fuck, on the side roads and careful to a paranoid level! Probably safer than I normally drive! The repair is pricing out at 17,000 CDN$ plus a rental car for a month and a half. I can imagine that guy is being put through the ringer by his insurance company and maybe will wise up and not do it again.
life is matter of luck a lot of times...or maybe just destiny
i remember a crazy thing more like creepy, back like 20ish years ago, going on holiday with my parents in croatia... we were driving in a quiet road with a few houses, it was night, suddently right after a turn in the middle of the street there was a man standing with open arms, like just stuck there, wearing only a long white dress, i swear it could have looked like jesus... my dad had to do a turn not to hit him, it was so scary... after missing him he turned back to go shout at him but he was disappeared
you missed his return!
😂
This is something I have not experienced...yet. Few years ago I really liked a girl from another country and wanted to date her. But I was too poor to make this at least possible. Now I am just a bit less poor and I am stepping into the same situation again- I once again like another girl from a different country and want to date her. This time I know that it is not possible unless Hive goes to the moon and beyond. Still it seems that I did not get any wiser in those few years....
Gotta be careful with those long distance relationships!
I was writing on Publish0x for a few years and 1 of their tipping tokens was AMPLEFORTH. Well we have no use for the token so most of us just got some and saved it away.
Well out of nowhere the Ampleforth team announced they would do a airdrop of their governance token called FORTH to everyone who interacted with the Ampleforth chain and token. And the snapshot was already taken from like a month prior so you couldn't quickly fudge the system.
Well they did airdrop the new token and let's just say I sold as quickly as I could because I got about $4,000 worth of Ethereum for selling it and I think at that time it was like 1.4 ETH or something.
I then spent most of that Ethereum on shopping.io and bought all the parts for my Gaming PC which I am still running today! :)
Bro, you were really lucky, here in my country it is more likely that a little piece of sun will fall than ice. An event in which I was lucky is when I climbed a lemon tree, to collect its fruit, and right on the branch that was, it broke, thank goodness and I fell on top of a branch a little further down, it was at a considerable altitude, who knows what would have happened to me
How much did THEY pay you to subliminally promote Final Destination: Bloodlines? ;-)
I thought you were gonna say smoking :p
I was walking with my brother-in-law under a grove of trees filled with nesting crows. He was telling me how he'd once nearly been pooped on during his walk to work. The moment he said the word "shit," a nest fell from a tree and hit me square on the head—covering me in it. And I was at least 4 km from home!
Lol, tell him never to speak again 🤣
I suspected him of witchcraft and ejected him from my house!
ouch, lol
Oh! I'm glad you weren't hurt, thanks to the lighter:)
I’ve actually experienced something similar. I was walking down the street, completely focused on my phone since there were no cars around.
Then I stepped on a banana peel. I fell backward and would’ve probably hit my head if someone hadn’t caught me just in time. It was embarrassing, but I was very grateful that's where the story ended.
wow a banana peel! that's not something you slip on in reality often!
In 2021, I bought several expensive NFTs within 30 minutes. And after some time, I received airdrop tokens. In the amount of 11,000 USDT. This was very unexpected for me. The biggest and easiest money in half an hour of work.
bayc?
RARE
Wow, we call this a miracle, escaping a life threatening event from just couple of meters. These are the reasons, we should be thankful to the almighty - we literally can't control everything as we desire. I have faced king cobra in front of me three times, while going to pluck flowers in very early morning, without doing any harm to me. We need to be careful, but at times, you simply don't know what's coming.
I don't think I have had any calls that were that close, but I know anytime we are traveling somewhere and there are delays I always think to myself that it might be the universe protecting us from some major accident down that road had we been on time.
yeah timing is everything..
I was looking at the court papers to change my name in my bank account while walking on the road heading to the bank, to see if there is any spelling errors or mistakes when i accidentally run into a man, he held a stick and was so angry, he hit me with the stick and i wanted to fight back, immediately the passers by shouted he is mad, that was when it dawned on me to observe before taking action, I looked at him from head to toe and realized he isn't in his right state of mind. that was a weird day for me
hmm at first I thought you were gonna say he was blind but guess that's worse
lolzzz 😅🤣🤣 definitely the worst
Whoa, close call! I'm glad you weren't hit but the falling ice and snow.
I had a few very strange things happen when I was a younger. Here's one of them. I was about seven or eight years old and my family was riding in our car (a '76 AMC Pacer) for an evening drive. It was almost sunset and we were driving east. As we were driving down this four lane road we heard this very odd siren, it didn't sound like any siren I've ever heard. I remember both directions of traffic pulling to the curb, as is customary when you hear an emergency siren. Suddenly, it was as though something large was in the sky partially obscuring the sun. After this everything stopped, I believe whatever this was put everyone to sleep. I woke up before the rest of my family. My mom, dad, and brother's heads were all hanging forward and they were still out and woke up a few seconds after I did and have zero recollection of the incident. The really strange thing is I'm the only one in the car who remembers the event as it unfolded. They remember the siren but nothing at all after that. It was as though someone just paused a video. I have no idea how long we were asleep or much time passed. This happened in Columbus Ohio, where I grew up, and in the 1970's there was tons of UFO activity in that area...I think due to the Wright Patterson air force base being so close.
When I started reading the post, I was having this horror vibe and was guessing you'd joke at the end. But it was horror for sure and you were lucky.
So you were in the military. Still in there? Oh I heard its mandatory for every Finnish to join military if I'm not wrong, is it part of that?
I almost set foot on dog tails multiple times while using my phone on the street. I'm damn lucky that I didn't; otherwise, I'd have to go for those multiple-syringed vaccines.
Thank goodness the ice didn't crush you. I imagined a game where you have to avoid snowballs falling from all sides and use fire energy to destroy them. Hehehehe
Well, a long time ago, I was walking down the street with a friend and suddenly I fell into a puddle of water. I was crying, and a guy, instead of picking me up and cleaning me up, stared at me and asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend... How crazy!
That’s like a near death movie scene fr 😳 Kinda makes you wonder how many times we’ve unknowingly dodged danger just by being clumsy or slow.
Moments when you feel someone is looking out for you, some may call it luck, not so sure.
my base layer self didn't want the simulation to end yet :p
Pretty fuzzy warm feeling, little perturbing, as to who.
It is a miracle, but I think grace walks around us each day.
terrible and very unhealthy weather, sun is vital
dunno what you think all these lame comments are gonna accomplish but it's fascinating that you still bother after all this time

Watched someone get stabbed and then someone else set a trash can on fire to distract the authorities at a college party...
Geeez...
Lightening striking (Two different events).
First
There was a small path with a very large tree in the center of it that served as a short-cut from my then home to the main street just above. I could see the path and tree from a spare bedroom window. I and many others used the path routinely. During a rain storm I decided to look out my window and almost instantly a lightening bolt hit the tree and I witnessed it catch fire. Considering I very rarely went in that room, even more rare for me to look out that specific window. The odds that I would do so just as the tree was hit by lightening and caught fire has to be astonishingly large.
Second
During my teenage years I was at my first full-time job. Due to the nature of the job we worked in just about all types of weather. On this day it was very windy and rain was coming down hard. It was my job to weigh and record product on an old beam scale. Which was near impossible to do in such weather. When we got the chance we would wait indoors until it was time to go back out and get to work. Myself and my crew just finished a task and bolt in for moments of shelter. As we turn around to watch the rain poor down a ligtening bolt smacks off our work station that we just removed ourselves from. 15 seconds later the manager found us and with a shocked look on his face and a simple hand motion shut down the operation for the day.
Not sure if that counts, but it was around 3 years ago, I was living in Ecuador for 7 years by then. I had worked by first year in a bar, and met many other volunteers and exchange students there. So, 6 years later, I'm on a video call with my father. Before we even start to talk he says: "Oh, your cousin is here, and he has a surprise for you." Walks up my cousin with a girl, and I'm like "I know her... from somewhere..." But I couldn't place it. Turns out, she was a volunteer here, and I had met her at the bar. She's from the other side of Germany, so there was no possible point of contact, and we weren't big friends, either. Now, the story was: The two of them were at the same party, and my cousin was wearing a wool sweater with a quite typical south american pattern. The girl, having been in Ecuador, walks up and asks if he got in in Ecuador, if he had been there. He said no, he got it elsewhere, and has never been to Ecuador, but that he has a cousin there who is a vegan cook in a bar. Now, imagine his face when the girl said: "Oh, is his name Yanneck?" (vegan cooks are very rare here, on top of that German, and working in a bar)
A few things like that happened to my by now. The world is a village.
That was a narrow escape indeed. I almost got killed by a car on high speed in the middle of the highway. I would have been dead with one second delay
