Good Vibes

Hi fellow Hiveians,

The other day I spent some great time hanging out on the deck at the lake while working.

Good Vibes

One of the things that's been nice is working remotely. I was able to do it one day a week prior to the Rona but after the Rona I have been full-time remote working. This is both challenging from a social perspective, can't form good bonds with my colleagues that arise from physical interaction like sharing an office but it has helped in many other regards.

The one area that it's really helped is to give me some good spaces to sit and do my work. When you are able to sit at a table near a body of water, I don't know if there's a better way to enjoy a work day! I've thoroughly enjoyed the different places I've been able to grab my laptop and work from but I find it very peaceful to hang out at the lake house and do some work.

The weather is thankfully some of the best times for hanging out and doing work at the lake. It's not too hot but not cold yet so sitting out on the deck when it's 74 or 75 degrees is very peaceful! Sometimes it's a little distracting seeing and hearing the boats drive by but we can get different distractions that achieve the same result working at home or at the office. It's good to be able to choose where I will be working from for a few hours!

Nice man, looks like a good spot to work. I hear you on the whole WFH thing; I sometimes miss it, but also do like the social aspect. Granted, I'm at a new job, but I do miss being home with the family sometimes too.

Ah so this job is at the office? Yeah I have a split idea of work. I want to be in an office environment where I can meet some people I work with but at the same time I don't want that because that means less time with the family and more time driving.

My company has us coming back October 1st, full onsite with hybrid options dependent on what your manager decides. It's aggravating to say the least. Looks like you have a good set up.

Oh man that's annoying man, hopefully you get to spend some time at home still! These are things that are important to a lot of people now that we have experienced long term remote work, it's important to the work life balance I think!

Oh I would love to be working along side a river. I’m currently working from home on 4 days and from the office on 1. That’s because I changed jobs and have to move house eventually.

All other colleagues are allowed to work outside the office 1 day per week maximum.

That's a good balance, 1 day in the office isn't too bad. I think it's tricky to start a new job and be purely remote and have to get to know and interact with your new colleagues. I'll be in that boat soon!

That’s true, the couple days in the office help a lot in learning how people communicate. With written communication it is often hard to find out how serious someone is about something.

I recommend making lots of (video)calls as you get more info that way through their voice and facial expression.

Yeah I do enjoy the video calls. I'll be doing that soon as often as I can. Not only with my colleagues I'll be working with but the clients. If I'm not on the video I tend to not pay attention as much since I'm multi tasking. Not a good recipe for success!

Change being with being aware 😉
