Routinely Routine

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how common it is to have a few routines in life, but also important to have some flexibility!

Routinely Routine

We all tend to get in a routine..

I think there are a lot of evolutionary things that we do, that we really don't pay much attention to. I know that it's easy to push things aside and forget them or not realize them in the increasingly complex world that we are living in today. It's also really easy to figure out information about ourselves and how the body works on the same token, so that's incredible!

I'm for sure as well one of those creatures of habit. I've got plenty of things that I enjoy doing and doing them in specific routines and schedules is a bit of a benefit. For example what inspired me to write the post here was the fact that typically on a Friday night, unless I'm busy or delayed a little bit, I will write the Monochrome Monday post for the upcoming Monday. If I get plenty of photos, I will also do the following week at the same time, because it's great to be efficient..

This has been a routine that's worked pretty well for me and that's nice. I know that sometimes people struggle to find content that they enjoy writing, and I certainly did as well for a while but I think once you get in a rhythm and routine, you can do pretty well and get it oiled up like a little engine.

There are certainly limitations to those schedules and routines though, such as not being a pain in the ass and having an attitude when the schedule is disrupted. We need to have some pretty good flexibility otherwise we are going to be up a creek a bit without a paddle! That's equally not as good!

Having talked to many people over the years in different capacities and abilities, one of the things I have for sure noticed is that some people are incredibly stuck in their routines, so much so that they get in a really bad mood if the routine is altered unexpectedly. I can sympathize with them to a certain extent, but at the same time it's really difficult to feel bad for things like that. The world is really chaotic and that's no joke!

I am also always trying to improve or adjust my routines, for the simple fact that it's good for our brains to shake things up. I think this is an important element and aspect of the day that we live in. I think a lot of people think of the 1970's where someone had the exact same routine day in and day out for 30 years, but sadly those days are long gone. There were certainly a lot of benefits to that, but at the same time it is also seemingly pretty boring.

Not that I'm saying chaos all over the place in terms of a schedule is good, but being able do make adjustments consistently is a pretty good skill to flex every now and then!

What about you, do you find yourself preferring a solid routine? What happens if the routine gets unexpectedly adjusted? Let me know in the comments!

I think in terms of long term plans, having a solid routine really helps on weathering the ups and downs that occasionally happen due to circumstances out of our control. The hard part is getting back on track after such circumstances happen. Sometimes, it seems to me that there are only two options, get back on track just as before or get back on track with adjustments that match with the new changes. I mostly prefer the latter because there's an element of change, which means less boring routines over time.

The world is changing fast, and those who can balance routine with flexibility live a more balanced and happier life.

I definitely prefer routines, to the extent that I like to plan everything out. And when it gets unexpectedly adjusted, I struggle. But it's something that I am aware so I am working on it. Haha.
