It was close to a year ago when I scored a sweet deal on a parts truck for my axle swap. The 2005 axles have made their way under my 1997 Ford F-350 and the driver couldn’t be much happier about the results. He says he will be driving it a lot more because he loves the smooth ride and the sharp turning radius. Dude is weird...trust me
So now I have an ‘05 extended cab Ford F-350 sitting on blocks on the side of the house. I had all intentions of continuing to pull parts off it and sell them but I honestly don’t have the time to go through all that. Pulling parts off, researching part numbers for a list of vehicles the part works on, then posting them on websites, then meeting with the buyers.... just more headache than I want to deal with. Plus I got what I want from it and I want it gone.
After contacting the local junkyard, I found out that they “recycle” vehicles. Well duh I am thinking in my head. Meaning they will pay you cash for whatever vehicle you bring in. Perfect!! Except this truck isn’t really able to roll onto a trailer... it’s missing those things called axles and those axles have those round thingies on the ends called wheels, that make it really nice to move the truck... I guess it’s time to devise a plan to get this truck outta here!!
Being that I sold the old front axle out of my 1997, I am only left with one axle. So a few weeks ago I rolled it across the front yard and placed it under the rear of the ‘05 and strapped it to the frame with some ratchet straps. Now the rear of the truck is able to roll but the front... ya not so much...
My initial plan was to do it like the Egyptians did when they moved those giant blocks. Lay 10 foot pieces of power poles on the ground and roll the truck across them. Moving the last pole to the front over and over. How funny would that have been. Lol. My neighbors already question the type of crazy stuff that goes on around here, why not give them something to really talk about right?
The idea i came up with is to use a crane and lift the front of the truck up and basically drag it up on the trailer. Well I don’t have a crane but I do have access to a Linetruck... Let the games begin!!
First borrow a car trailer from a buddy and back it up between the trees in the front yard with the Green Machine (2001 Ford Excursion 7.3L Powerstroke).
Then borrow the Linetruck and park it at a 45 degree angle across the front yard. Setup the outriggers, swing the boom around and lower the winch line.
Just drag it up on the trailer and Ta-Da it’s done... not really. We had to take it easy when walking it up the ramps. I didn’t want the truck to all the sudden roll forward fast and smash into the back of my Excursion.
Not all my ideas work the way they do in my mind, but this one actually did. The truck is on the trailer and I didn’t break or destroy anything... it’s a miracle!!
Oops almost forgot.... I have 8 wheels and tires I need to load up also. So I just picked up the front of the truck and stuffed them underneath it.
Now if I could get some time to haul this to the junkyard to get rid of it. You see they aren’t open on the weekends, and they close at 5pm... well I get off at 5pm... so I guess I will either have to take a couple hours off of work or wait until Friday when I have a day off. But we are working Fridays and I ain’t turning down that overtime!! Either way I am happy to have this truck loaded on a trailer and cleared out from the side of the house. One step closer.
I honestly have no idea how much money they will give me for this but as long as they take it off my hands I will be happy. I already got what I want off of it and sold enough parts to recover the purchase price of it so... it’s time to load it up and haul it off

Hey @dandays
Like my Shirt?
Man, I know that feeling. Working a regular job with regular hours that prevents you from doing business with other people doing the same thing. It's both a boon and a hindrance when coordinating tasks.
I often feel like SpongeBob...

.No, I don't! Love it. Man who got you that? You sure do know some cool people. And I won't mention anything about that part back there where you said you get off at 5. 🤔
Eh, this was a really nice read. I don't think your neighbors mind you @jlsplatts, they just wish you'd clear out their yard too.
Ya some guy I have never met sent that to me as he made his way through Florida or something. He was homeless for a while, but I think he found a place now.
Well when you put it that way... it sure does seem a little creepy and weird...
We are the loudest ones on the block, besides that time in the evening when the cat lady calls her cats in for dinner.
Dude there's always a cat lady!!
How cool was that gif though?
My Dog always sneaks over there and helps herself to some cat food... no wonder it is suck a fight to keep her weight down.
Noice!!
Now you have room for another project.. or 2.. lol
Don’t tempt me... it’s nice having access to the back yard with having to dodge a truck. Lol
Nothing like getting rid of clutter. When it comes to cars, I think that you already know that I'm LOST, but when you mentioned this, ( it’s missing those things called axles and those axles have those round thingies on the ends called wheels, that make it really nice to move the truck... ) I knew exactly what you were talking about. Boy, that made me feel like rotating some tires.
I've got a funny story about moving things Egyptian style. It's funny now, but at the time it wasn't funny at all. It took me several hours to get over my stupidity and laugh at the situation. I've been laughing ever since.
I'm in the middle of putting an addition on the bedroom off of the side of the house. I needed to move the outside shower about 6 feet to the left in order to accommodate the new structure. Well, that was when I got the brainstorm to go Egyptian style.
Every time I do a project, @farm-mom always says "that ain't going nowhere.
Having no intention to ever move the outside shower, I built it, as usual, it wasn't going anywhere. A hurricane could have come through and the outdoor shower would have been the only thing left standing. It took a few hours to detach it from the columns that I had set in the footing holes before pouring the concrete.
With all the confidence in the world that this was going to be a cinch, I got #farm-mom and she placed the perfectly round tree branches under the structure while I lifted one side and then the other with a digging bar.
With everything in place, it was go time.
I pushed on this thing, and it would roll for about a foot and then start to twist. I'd straighten it out and this time I would push from a different angle to try and get more leverage. The f---king thing would move about a foot and start twisting again. The next go around I used the digging bar to get a little more LEVERAGE and the dam thing wanted to tip over on me. This went on for better than a half-hour.
At this point, #farm-mom was getting a little nervous, or should I say a lot nervous.
As we both scratched our heads and stepped back for a moment, she glanced up and said, do you think that the clothesline may be what's holding it back.
I had seen it earlier and decided I would remove it later. Well, later didn't work out too well.
Needless to say, I pulled out the old pocket knife, cut that son of a bitch, said F the Egyptians, and wrestled that thing into place in less than a minute.
Like I said earlier, not funny at the time, but one heck of a funny story now.
You gotta be able to laugh at yourself.
DAHAHAHA!!! “I will get it later” I have said that a time or two and did the same thing... forgot about it. Then it came and bit me in the ass later. Lol Damn that is a funny story. I was LMAO all the way through.
After words no matter how the project goes I always enjoy a cold !BEER or maybe during depends on the project 😉
If the project is sitting on the mower, then a few cold ones are in play. I wonder if you can be issued a DWI while driving a mower?
Thanks for the cold ones @jlsplatts
