Inktober 52, year 2023, week 16: Grimm - A photo as a base

My presumably 60 years old Gevaert film and at least 60 years old Coronet D-20 camera just keeps on giving. This photo was tough to draw on. After the first obvious character it was really hard to decide which figure to draw and to stop drawing because I kept seeing entities but I think this is what I wanted to show you. This time. And anyway, as before, it's not what I see, it must be the old layers, the multiple exposures in the film so these sculls and animals and puppets are all true.

First there was this.

Now that I've drawn what I drew, I'm seeing completely different shapes there. There's a lion or is it a badger or perhaps a gorilla and an old woman riding a robot that is thinking and leaning its head on its hand. Also more sculls and bats and cats and monkeys. That's what I see. Perhaps I'll draw another one based on this same picture some day.

Aaaaaaand then there was this. Pretty grim I'd say. The zoo animals are perhaps the grimmest but I guess it's quite grim to have a fish as a heart too. Or perhaps it's a T-shirt picture. I'm sure the Grimm brothers had that fish T-shirt and that's one of the brothers. Or perhaps this character is from one of their lost stories. "The grim fish T-shirt guy."

If you watch this long enough you can't unsee what I saw and drew.

Now where did I get the photo from?

That dust inside the camera. And I don't mean the gray dust because that I did get rid of. I mean the black tiny hair that you can see on the photo. And I don't mean the straight vertical lines because that's just the film cracking and breaking but all the other stuff. If you can see that all other stuff from all the other other stuff in there. So there's a lot of stuff there.

Until next time. Keep on gimming!
