Have you ever worked on a piece of art you find hard to finish due to sentimental reasons? UGH, grief is weird - right?

Model to the right, drawing to the left. I made her eyes bigger as they were bigger IRL, she was just squinting in the photo because of the sun.

I'd really like to get this drawing finished and be able to hang it up and admire my beautiful girl, but I am having a hard time finishing it. My grief mind says once this art is completed, we are done spending time together like this. Because I feel close to her when I'm drawing her.

The very beginning. It has been about a 6-week process so far. I started with the eyes and nose, they have to be right!

I have never wanted to draw in my life apart from stick figures. This has been a cathartic and therapeutic process and I get to look at her daily. Win!
I was just going to share the finished piece but hey who cares! It has been all about the process anyway. Here is how she is currently looking

Not far to go. I have never drawn a pet portrait before. I owe this decent result to all the amazing YouTube tutorials I watched. One nugget of advice that always stuck out to me through the videos was KEEP GOING! It's easy to be discouraged if you're just beginning.
Use layers, try new things, and give yourself breaks. It can be tiring drawing for long periods.
