The Motherland Monument is a fairly typical monument of this type on the territory of the former USSR. With the help of the statue of the mother heroine, attempts were made to further strengthen the spirit of the nation, and, of course, they were crowned with success.
The Kyiv monument was built in the eclectic style. It was officially opened on the anniversary of Victory Day on May 9, 1981 and was immediately proclaimed "the eighth wonder of the world." The ceremony was led by Comrade Leonid Brezhnev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Today, the monument evokes different feelings among the inhabitants of modern Kyiv. Everyone wants to dismantle the coat of arms of the USSR on its shield.
