Nope! I am determined. Let’s go!
So, I do not know if the same person comes up with the prompts every year, but what the heck is up with prompts this year?! Usually, they seem a bit more random than what we have going for us this year. Like, sure! I try to think out of the box about what to create for most of the prompts, add a twist, and not take the evident route anyway. But okay!
And I went the obvious route with the first prompt - Backpack! Haha! I am already contradicting myself, brilliant! Oh well! My backpack at least has a pet plant! We see people walking their pet puppies and kitties, but what about a pet plant?! They also would like some fresh air and sunlight from time to time.
Anyway, it was a back-and-forth between I like where this is going and Aaaaa, am I fucking this up?! So, yeah. I feel very rusty, lacking confidence here, at the start, especially since I have not done much art stuff this year apart from drawing from references for practice and helping to paint a sign for a wedding. What the hell have I been up to? Yeah. Other life-like stuff, I guess.
But up there, you have progress photos of the process. What tools did I use this time? I recently acquired some inks from Winsor & Newton and Liquitex. In this piece, I used - 957 cobalt, 968 peat brown, and 971 violet from Winsor & Newton; jet black, emerald, and purple Diamine drawing & calligraphy ink; yellow orange azo and red oxide acrylic ink by Liquitex. I used a black Pigma brush pen, Pigma micron 05, and a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen for linework and finer details.
My first impression of the new inks was that Winsor & Newton inks are much lighter in pigmentation yet buildable, and Liquitex acrylic inks are very pigmented. I like both but prefer Liquitex because it is similar to Diamine inks.
Another thing I would like to mention is that - either I do not know how to use washi tape properly, or it is expected that the paper will rip when removing it. I hate it! I hate that it damages the paper. Does anyone have some tips for me? Maybe it is not meant for all types of paper? I do not know. Meow! I paid 3 euros for washi tape from an art supply store, to be a bit disappointed. I am trying hard to get past it, but my inner perfectionist is yelling at me.

Skaisti! Darbs un darbnīca :)
Paldies! Es ceru, ka man izdosies visas 31 dienas! Viegli noteikti nebūs.
What a great start, I love it! It's so cute about the pet plant. A backpack is a backpack, but now you've put a plant in the pocket, it tells a little story. I feel like I know a little bit about whose backpack that is, like they're a character in a novel or something. Isn't it cool how art can do that? You can show just one little scene, and then the mind starts to wander into a whole universe.
About the washi tape, maybe there's some alternative that will work for your type of paper? As annoying as the damage may be, I think it's a really cool effect to have such a clean line on the edge of your work.
I think I saw the prompts once before, but I just looked again in the context of what you said and, wow, yes, there's a very clear theme. Maybe someone's random idea generator is broken? :D
I'm so happy to see you doing art again. <3
Yeah, especially, since the plants normally are like a stationary thing, you put them in one place and that is where they live, but here the little plant is traveling to places with its friend who carries it around.
Well, in the past I cut out a frame from carboard and glued that down with the tape on the table. But inks still messed up most of the edges by bleeding underneath the carboard.
Seems it. xD

Lem! A comment from lem!
How are you? It's been too long! Drop me a note sometime and don't be a stranger:)
Lem comments are rare and must be treasured! ^^
You're back! Huzzah!
I don't have a lot of experience with washi tape, but in my drafting classes, we still worked with pen and paper in one course. We had tape designed specifically to hold paper in place on the drafting table, but removable so it wouldnt damage anything. See if drafting tape is sold anywhere there, maybe?
Ahaha! Well, it was not easy to step out of the shadows I was lurking in. I am still feeling like a deer in the headlights.
I will have a look. Maybe in some art shops in old Riga. I am still trying to tame the washi tape with various outcomes.
Beautiful arts, The flowers look real
Thank you! I am so happy to be back to drawing. I missed it a lot.
This is really amazing. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
It’s the desk that look promising:) it demonstrates possibilities!
Transiting through Toronto and checking posts on hive.
My other desk got too busy and wasn't the most comfortable for creative things. Half of it is occupied by my kitty Pūciņa who loves being near me all the time and decided that it is were she sleeps. So I had to put a kitty bed there for her.
The new table is much more suitable for artsy things. I am glad I got it in time for Inktober.
Safe travels. Hope all is well?
My usual boring view.
But that 7:40pm flight is similar to your desk for me: full of possibilities!
All is well. First trip after the big surgery. Will be flying over Iran on the way to India :) news feed at the lounge showing missiles in the air! What could go wrong:)
All is well. India is nice this time of the year.
