Day 10 (Día 10) Four Sketches | Cuatro Dibujos (ENG/ESP)

in Sketchbook25 days ago

Hello friends, I hope you are having a beautiful day. As always, we continue on this path of learning, learning, and learning. I am more committed than ever to learning how to draw, and for that, every day I dedicate a full hour (the best time adjustment I could make) to practicing my drawing. Most of the time, I try to follow tutorials or books.

In truth, I would like to have a more academic approach to my way of learning, but I am doing everything possible with the resources I have at hand. They are of low quality, but I will not let that limit me or my learning process.

Well, friends, returning to today's practice—I had spent several days just making lines and sketches, and honestly, I felt the urge to do something more complete. So, I decided to make some finished drawings with the tools I had at hand: my lined notebook and my HB school pencil.

Since I cannot afford to waste much space, I divided my sheet into four equal segments and looked for four references that captivated me: a simple still life, a ball covered with a cloth, a plate of oranges, and a Greek bust.

The first segment of my sheet was dedicated to the still life. With this drawing, I recalled how to frame a composition and start from basic shapes. The most difficult part was the cup on top of the book due to perspective.

In the second segment, I drew the ball covered with the cloth—my first time drawing a material like fabric. The goal was to make the weight of the fabric on the ball evident, creating folds and wrinkles. It wasn’t perfect, but I’m satisfied with the result.

In the third section, I tackled a plate with slices of orange on top. The reference image had sharp, beautiful shadows, and I believe I managed to capture that quite well, although the texture of the fruit is not very identifiable.

The final drawing—I knew it would be a challenge, and by then, my planned hour of drawing had turned into two. But I overcame my fear of the blank page and started drawing. Although I haven’t begun drawing realistic faces yet, and I’m still far from mastering them, I really liked the result. I think it is one of my best drawings, even though there is still much room for improvement.

Looking back at the time that has passed, I believe I have improved, but I am still at the beginning of the journey. Neither arrogance nor despair can win me over—I know I have improved, but I am far from perfection. I am at the start of the path, and reaching the goal requires consistency, sacrifice, and above all, time. Thank you for being here and being part of this journey. See you next time.

Nice drawing!
What pencil do you use?

Hi! I usually do everything with an HB pencil since it's what I have on hand, but recently I had the chance to try pencils with different gradations for the first time. Do you have any advice?

That’s great, it’s good to actually try out as much materials as you to know which works best for you and your style of art
I personally use Kimberly Graphite pencil and general charcoal

But recently I’ve been working mostly with charcoal stick

Right now, I only have a few materials, but I hope to build a wide collection so I can experiment while learning. I'm really interested in exploring graphite and watercolors. Wishing you a wonderful day, and thank you!
