Using crypto initiatives for charity: How to earn free Banano tokens and NFTs while helping alleviate global poverty through FreeRice

in OCDlast year

Most of us have made crypto grinding part of our daily routine. Be it part time or full time we look for ways to get more crypto. For some it is part of their supplementary income. For others it is their primary income. We always focus on the monetary and technological implications / benefits of crypto that at times we don't think of the ways it can be used to promote social goods and alleviate people from poverty.

Most of the time, you'll need to purchase your crypto tokens and NFTs. There is a monetary transaction that needs to occur in order to receive the tokens or digital art. Though, there are exceptions to that rule like the Banano Community that offer free crypto and NFTs.

If you don't know much about Banano already - highly unlikely I know!- it is a 2018 fork of the Nano token. Banano is a feeless, freely distributed meme coin that has a very active and dynamic community. There are a number of ways you can get Banano for free like the Banano reddit sub, the Discord server, JungleTV, airdrops, faucets, competitions, events, folding and others.

What if I told you that you can also get free $BAN (the Banano token) and free Cryptomonkeys NFTs (part of Banano Community on WAX) while helping in for social and environmental causes?!

You'll ask me how?

It's simple. By answering quiz collections and collecting points in Freerice. If you don't know Freerice already; it is a website created by the World Food Programme (WFP) that features educational trivia games.

By answering the different quiz questions correctly you raise 10 grains of rice per correct answer. Then the amount of rice grains gathered through Freerice trivia games is matched by donors and its monetary equivalent is sent to the WFP to support humanitarian emergencies around the world.

Some of the humanitarian emergencies that benefit Freerice donations include the humanitarian and food crises in Afghanistan, Congo, Syria, Yemen, Haiti and others.

The Banano community has taken to heart what Freerice is doing and have decided to also chip in. Each Banano community member that registers in Freerice can contribute to two causes at once and get free Banano.

First, the accumulated rice grains to WFP emergencies. Second, Banano has a tiered system that rewards Banano to users for correct answers in the trivia quizzes. Third, the awarded Banano each week to users is matched by Banano and an equivalent amount goes to a charity selected by the community. For February the Banano community is supporting Saint Jude Children's Hospital that specializes in cancer and other rare diseases treatment for children.

The previous month, the Banano community gathered 8,358 $BAN that were donated to the "One Tree Planted" Foundation.

There are currently 5 tiers for Banano members playing Freerice. By achieving 4,200 rice you get 15 BAN for free and Saint Jude's Hospital gets another 15 BAN. In total you can get up to 91 BAN each week. If you get at least 25,000 rice per week you'll also get 1 free Cryptomonkeys NFT.

Getting 25,000 rice might sound like a lot of effort, but in reality it isn't much more than just a few hours responding to educational trivia questions.

A step by step how to join Freerice & qualify for free Banano & Cryptomonkeys NFTs.

To register properly you need to sign up with an account at https://freerice.com

then join the r/Banano group.

After you have done that you need to head to Monkeyrice, the Banano community dedicated website for the competition. In there you'll find lots of relevant Freerice resources. You can also track your Weekly Freerice score there.

https://monkeyrice.cc/index.php

Under the menu tab, you'll click on the Sign up option. This will pop a Google docs where you need to insert

  1. Your Freerice username
  2. Your Banano wallet address
  3. Your Wax wallet address (for the NFTs)

Furthermore, it will ask you whether you want your BAN rewards to be sent to you, kept for charity or split. You can click send to you, as already Banano is matching the BAN it rewards you and sends the equivalent to charity as I explained before. If you want, you can forfeit your rewards altogether and have them all be sent to charity.

If you don't have a Banano wallet, getting one is easy and free. My suggestion is to start with a Kallium wallet that is easy to use and you can download from your App / Play store. You'll need the Banano wallet for the $BAN tokens to be sent to you.

Whereas for the WAX wallet (if you don't have one already) there are many options like Wax Cloud Wallet, Anchor or Wombat. You'll need the WAX wallet for the NFT if you reach the 3rd reward tier.

Now, you can start grinding and answering trivia questions for rice grains.

There is a plethora of categories you can pick from. These categories include arts & culture, history and geography, English & foreign languages, math, natural sciences, and social sciences among others. Thus, you can learn new things or practice your language skills. In case you get bored you can always have your kids or younger siblings help you out. That way they learn something new and also they also get to participate in a noble global cause.

To wrap it all up. Getting free Banano and NFTs is easy. Freerice is one of the ways to do that. But there are many other ways and competitions running daily and offering free Banano & NFTs in the Banano and Cryptomonkeys Discord servers.

Thanks for this detailed guide, however, finance and crypto related topics would fit better in Leofinance, a community I see you are already familiar with. OCD community is for topics that don't fit in any other community and should be used when you don't find a niche community for your post.

Here's a guide I put together to help you learn about how communities work and why you should use them -> Communities Explained - Newbie Guide. I also put together a list of communities, which is not complete, there are much more communities on Hive, but it will help you get started.

Once you posted your post in the right community, you can then cross post it to OCD community. Here's a guide about cross posting.

Please don't delete any post with the purpose of reposting it in another community as that can be considered abuse. Leave this post here, you'll get it right next time.

Hey Erika.

Thanks and apologies if I posted it in the wrong community. By writing about crypto and social issues I thought it could tackle a topic not covered much and that would fit better in some other community than Leofinance which at times is more finance / biz / crypto tech focused.

I'll read through the guides you forwarded me.
