We spend more time thinking about our lives than actually living them !

Descartes said, "I think, therefore I am", but in reality, too much thinking can make it hard to be fully present in our lives, and our daily lives can be really burdensome when we spend more time thinking about our lives than actually living them. If this is your case, I'd like to give you a few good reasons to stop thinking too much.

This article is especially for you if you tend to think a lot. So, if that's the case, don't feel guilty - you're not alone. Many people suffer from mental hyperactivity. There are several types of excessive thinking. The first is rumination, which means getting lost in repetitive, negative thoughts about past or present problems. The second is anxious anticipation, worrying about what might happen in the future. There's also excessive analysis, analyzing every detail of a situation. Then there's excessive preoccupation, constantly focusing on problems without finding constructive solutions.

All these thoughts have a major impact on our lives, and that's what I'm going to share with you to give you good reasons to stop overthinking. Before I do, I'd like to make one important clarification. The idea is not at all to demonize our minds and seek to stop thinking at all. The idea is simply to realize that too much mind kills mind, and that this mental hyper-agitation has major consequences for our lives.

We need to be aware that excessive thinking can lead to mental exhaustion. Thinking too much constantly strains the brain and can lead to exhaustion. It can reduce our concentration and efficiency in other tasks requiring mental attention.

Our thoughts increase anxiety and stress. Ruminating on problems, especially those beyond our control, can increase anxiety and stress levels. It can even lead to anxiety disorders if it becomes a habit. These same disorders are detrimental to our physical health, as no organism is designed to live under constant stress.

Another consequence of excessive thinking is difficult decision-making. Thinking too much about all the possible options and their potential consequences can make decision-making very difficult, if not impossible, and this is what often leads to paralysis by analysis.

Another impact I mustn't forget is on our emotional health. Our thoughts and emotions are closely linked. Fixation on negative or stressful thoughts generates intense and unpleasant emotions, and can even lead to disorders such as depression.

Personally, I used to suffer a lot because of the mental hyperactivity I used to have, which often led to sleep problems. If you find yourself constantly thinking before bed about negative things, it can interfere with your ability to fall asleep and lead to sleep problems that can affect your overall health.

So we've just looked at a number of good reasons to stop overthinking, and I hope this will help you find the motivation to create change in your life, to create change in your thought system. If you feel that your thoughts are taking up too much space in your day-to-day life, learning to master them is a fundamental step towards regaining control of your life. So fundamental, in fact, that it's one of the main points of my guides on "Tips for a conscious life".
