"Hi babes, you’re home early. How was your day?"

Julia smiled at him.  She was happy to see him, and he always made her feel better.

“Same old, nothing new. “

George smiled. “I’m glad you had a good day.  I had a rough day and all I want to do is to shower and get out of this suit.”

“Do you want to join me?” He winked at her and she shook her head.

That’s what got us into this situation in the first place she thought to herself and suddenly felt very sorry for herself. She felt very emotional but she didn't know why.

George went straight to the bathroom. Within minutes she heard the water.

She knew he would feel better once he showered. She just didn't know how to tell him the news.  She had no idea if he was going to be happy or not.

She made some chamomile tea and took a seat at the kitchen table.  She was still sitting there staring into space as if lost to the world when George came back in.

"Do we have any Chinese food left from last night? I didn’t get to eat much at the luncheon this afternoon."

George chatted away while he opened the fridge, but as soon as he put the food on the table Julia had to run to the bathroom.  She just couldn’t stand the smell.

George knocked on the door a few seconds later and asked her if she was okay.

“I’ll be out in a minute. Must be something I ate.”

George wasn’t convinced but didn’t say a word.

Julia took some of the medication the doctor prescribed and went straight to bed. She felt exhausted again and was fast asleep when George finally crawled in next to her.

George was a little worried.  She wasn’t acting like herself. He has noticed it a few weeks ago, but he didn’t want to start a fight.

She looked so peaceful sleeping and he bent over to kiss her on the head. Perhaps they needed to play hooky tomorrow and spend some time alone.

Julia was still asleep when George woke up the next morning. He went to make coffee and was on his way back to the room when he heard Julia in the bathroom. He phoned the office and told them he was not coming in. He was worried about Julia and wanted to take her to the doctor.

He put her coffee next to her bed, and when she finally came out, she surprisingly looked all refreshed.

“You look all sparkly this morning.  Do you feel better?”

“Oh yes, I feel a hundred percent.  Weird enough, I’m just hungry.” This was a peculiar statement as Julia only had coffee in the morning.

“Well come on then, let me take you out to breakfast. I’m not going into the office today so if you want to, we can spend the whole day together.”

"Well, Mr. Farley it looks like you did some planning while I was getting ready for work. I’m sure they can do without me for one day. I will just phone in and play sick.”

George laughed. “It’s your company. You don’t have to play sick. If they need you, they can phone you.”

They took a cab to the restaurant. Julia was absolutely starving.  She felt as if she hasn’t eaten in a week and ordered a stack of pancakes and bacon as soon as they walked in.

George laughed. “What’s happening? You haven’t eaten carbs in over two years.”

“Nothing is wrong.  I’m just really in the mood for pancakes.”

Julia ate as if her life depended on it, but as soon as she finished, she had to run to the bathroom again.

She looked pale and exhausted when she came out of the bathroom. It looked as if she was going to faint at any minute.

“Let me take you to Doctor Bester. I am really worried about you.”

“There is nothing wrong with me.  Perhaps YOU need to sit down George. I have something to tell you. ”

George looked very worried.

She ordered a glass of water, took a sip, and before she knew it, she just blurted it out.

"I'm pregnant George. I'm not sick. I went to the doctor yesterday because I haven't been feeling myself and he confirmed it."

"What? You're kidding!"

"I am not. I saw dr Bester and we did a blood test."

George felt overwhelmed and suddenly he felt like fainting.

"How is this even possible? We’ve gone through three rounds of IVF and nothing happened."

"I don't know but it happened,  You are going to be a father.”

George started to laugh and jumped up to take her into his arms.

“This is the best news I have ever received in my life!”

"I'm glad, I am struggling a bit to come to terms, but it is what it is, now please order me another batch of pancakes. I am starving."

George cracked up and told her that she was going to get fat, but called the waitress to the table.

She told him that she didn’t care. The stress of the last twenty-four hours has taken a toll on her, but after telling George she felt absolutely exhilarated.

They were finally going to have a baby!

They have waited for so long and now after all these years, their biggest dream was coming true. Life works in mysterious ways.
