Onboarding is pretty difficult, but retention is even more difficult. In my view, some onboarders don't mentor their onboardees well enough, and most onboardees are too short sighted to take a long term view of Hive.
The stats above are very interesting, and a lot more can be inferred from it. Despite the decent number of comments they make, their network is very small as can be seen from their follower/following numbers, they average below 30. Their curation reward is just a very small fraction of their author rewards. For a 3k-4k account if you were to curate effectively, you should earn more curation rewards than that.
As you probably know, the whole onboarding thing on Hives frustrates me a lot, especially when people come with the wrong mindset, and we're a constant revolving door for them.
Sadly I don't see it improving easily, though I'd rather onboard 2000 people and find 15% good users rather than mass onboarding and have to fish out a handful from the ocean
