Thank you for writing this up. It's good to have a post to refer people to for a better explanation than a quick comment can give. This is one of the areas where I think even older users can get a little confused.
I recently posted into the wrong community accidentally. My fat finger must have hit the wrong community on the list on my tablet and I didn't realise until it posted and loaded me into that community. Thankfully it was a community that the content could still fit, so it wasn't going to be muted and I know enough from the side of curating and running a community not to delete the content and cause other problems. I was also able to get it reblogged by the community account where it should have gone. Not everyone has the perspective or option, though.
My pleasure. Unfortunately you can't cover this much in a comment and also can't write a comment of the length of a post every day, multiple times, so a post helps a lot.
I did the same once, posted in Silver Gold community, instead of Sport Talk Social as I did not scroll down enough, but I left a comment on my post, apologizing and they did not take it as offense. I did it this year, with my rep over 77 😂 It happens.
