Southern Brazil disaster: Urgent call for help

Heeeyho Readers! We need your support!

Call for Help

This brief post aims to mobilize our community to gather as much money as possible to buy essentials (water, food, cleaning material) for the affected people in my state (Rio Grande do Sul). Read below.

Note: Payout from this post will fully go to my bank account and I'll personally buy everything that'll be transferred to the affected cities. I'm also powering down some Hive to cover the costs. Any liquid Hive or HDB is welcomed.

Background

Southern Brazil has been hit by a cyclone and several days of non-stop rain, causing a one-of-a-kind humanitarian disaster in more than 60 cities — some of whom I visited and wrote about in this blog before. This kind of event is not usual, thus most were unprepared and lost everything.

The flooding washed away houses, swamped streets in several cities, killing almost 40 people and leaving many homeless. The news have reported that people mostly need hygiene kits and cleaning material as loads of fresh water and food arrive to the sites. Supermarkets, banks, hospitals and general infrastructure are destroyed. For that reason they are relying on help from other cities. My municipality has a truck loading resources to transfer.

If you need more information I kindly suggest checking the news for "flooding in southern Brazil".

ouch, I hope there is no disaster again in Brazil. hope everyone is safe

Disasters happen, but united we can overcome difficulties. Thanks for the message ^~

Sorry to hear about yet another natural disaster this year. The climate has been crazy. Floods, droughts, tornadoes, wildfires, hurricanes, tsunamis... Mother Nature taking revenge for having been abused and exploited by us for decades. I´m sorry your region got hit too my friend :(

Yeah, my brother. Unfortunately it seems we'll have to deal with more and more extreme conditions. We tend to have severe rains before the spring and floods aren't uncommon, but this time it was so extreme (second worst flood since 1941, when the river rose to almost 30m); another problem is that it was so freaking fast that a lot of ppl drowned inside their homes.

Today I already moved some resources using my own money, since I can't wait 7 days for post payout. Let's see if other curators step out. Thanks a bunch for the message.

Extreme conditions indeed. All over the world actually. In my country, fore example, we just started to have tornadoes here. Never had them before. The south of Europe just experienced some deadly heats, North America has been destroyed by wildfires, some Asian countries got hit by extreme floods. Now you are telling us what just happened in your region. Shocking, sad, tragic. And it feels like this is just the beginning, unfortunately...

All we can do is to anticipate and prepare. Learning 'survival' skills comes in handy.
