Jungle Justice

in OCD5 years ago

I came across this two words today and I have been trying to open up on it, although I might not be able to break it down to it simplest meaning due to the fact that I am not a law student. It is term associated with crime. From the word jungle, we are talking about a place where there is cruel struggle for survival, it is an environment where all eyes must be wide open and bringing it down to justice, justice has to do with making this right or putting this in order

In a nutshell, we can describe jungle justice as a way of putting laws into our hands, what did I mean by this, we all know that every society have its own rules and regulations that is guiding every member of the society and there are some people whose duty is to make sure people abide by all these rules and regulations. For example, we have the law enforcement agencies such as police, EFCC, FBI among others.

If anything is happening in the society which is against the ethics of the society, these body are there to make sure that things is going on the way it suppose to be. There are some behavior that the society go against such as stealing, killing, Fraud and many more. Anytime an individual in the society involves in any form of these crimes, it is expected of any member of that particular environment to report the case to the law enforcement agency that can handle such crime.

There are situations whereby people in the society will catch a criminal and instead of handling such criminal to law enforcement agency, they will go as far as punishing the criminal themselves due yo the gravity of the crime.

Some years back, I heard a news of a woman who was caught trying to kidnap a little boy. According to the news, the woman pretend to be a lunatic woman and when they caught her after using charm on the little boy, youths in that environment put law into their hands by burning the woman before Police arrived at the scene.

Going by the rule of law, the woman was suppose to be hand over to the police for proper investigations, the news further stressed that Police started arresting youths in that area for putting law into their hands. Reason why people prefer jungle these days is not farfetched from the fact that whenever they report any crime to law enforcement agency, they don't always know the final judgement.

Like I have said at the beginning of this post that I am not a law student, I don't really know if there is a part of law that support jungle justice because some crime can be corrected in the street without involving the police. Using that woman who kidnap a little boy as an example here, such crime to me deserves instant judgement and I see no reason why police will begin to arrest people for putting law into their hands.

Jungle justice always occur when the society fail to trust law enforcement agencies and some youths will come together to make things right for themselves. Jungle justice is not the best option for correcting any anomaly in the society from the look of things but law agencies must do well to make sure that justice stand.
