Yeah, I think the reward system shouldn't push out churned content - that is a very web 2.0 mentality, quantity over quality. But the very fact there is some kind of incentive here, even if small - really should demand higher quality content. I think this is why to some degree, the comments and conversation and traction and virality!! is so much more rewarding that other social networks that I have been on - only here have I had that.

So I guess you're speaking out against the whole idea of.. quantity vs quality, vouching for quality.
