What happens when the pursuit of money and fame takes over?
My latest collage is based on a personal story of watching someone close transform into a self-obsessed shadow of her former self.
A shocking meeting at a family gathering inspired me to create this artwork, which was intended to depict the disturbing self-image of her ego.

Was passiert, wenn das Streben nach Geld und Ruhm überhandnimmt?
Meine neueste Collage basiert auf einer persönlichen Geschichte, in der ich miterlebt habe, wie sich eine mir nah stehende Person in einen selbstverliebten Schatten ihrer selbst verwandelte.
Ein erschütterndes Wiedersehen bei einer Familienfeier hat mich zu diesem Werk inspiriert, welches das beunruhigende Selbstbild ihres Egos darstellen soll.

About my collage

Chasing money and fame usually comes at a cost. If you're not careful, you might end up selling your soul.
This theme fuels countless novels and movies, and we often know real-life examples that prove it. In my case, it hit close a family member. I watched her transform from a decent person into someone selfish, self-obsessed, and full of herselves.
It was tough to watch that, especially since she actually used to be a genuinely good person. The worst part, though, was her newly creepy need to make a show of herself, even in front of people who knew her very well.
And it got worse and worse the more money she earned and the more expensive things she collected, the more fame she got.

After a family gathering where we saw this person, my wife came up to me, shocked, and said, "She's completely lost it. So obnoxious."
I replied, "Right now, she's up there in her own private temple, and she won't come back down until she realizes she's the only one truly worshipping herself."

That response sparked the idea for my collage. When I say something, it often paints pictures in my mind. And in this case, I really liked what I saw.

Über meine Collage

Das Streben nach Geld und Ruhm, kostet für gewöhnlich etwas. Wenn man nicht aufpasst, verkauft man dafür seine Seele.
Gerade dieses Thema, ist Stoff für zahlreiche Romane und Spielfilme und nicht selten kennt man selbst Fälle, die das belegen.
Bei mir war so ein Fall in der Familie und konnte die Entwicklung dieses Familienmitgliedes, von einem normalen Menschen, hin zu einem egoistischen, egomanischen, selbstgerechten, sich selbst verherrlichenden Wesen beobachten. Und das war wirklich schlimm, da diese Person eigentlich ein guter Mensch war. Am schlimmsten fand ich aber, den neuerliche, unheimlichen Selbstdarstellungstrieb, auch vor Menschen, welche diese Person sehr gut kannten.
Und es wurde immer schlimmer, je mehr Geld sie machte, je mehr teure Dinge sie sammelte und je mehr Ruhm sie erwarb.

Nach einer Familienfeier, auf der wir auch dieses Familienmitglied trafen, kam meine Frau schockiert auf mich zu und sagte: "Die dreht ja völlig ab. Sie ist wirklich unangenehm geworden."
Worauf ich erwiderte: "Sie befindet sich zurzeit, da oben, in ihrem Privat-Tempel und wird wohl erst wieder zu uns kommen, wenn sie merkt, dass sie die einzige ist, die sich wahrhaft anbetet."

Naja, eben diese Antwort, war die Inspiration für meine Collage. Denn was ich selbst sage, erzeugt gleichzeitig irgendwie Bilder in meinem Kopf. Und diese Bilder gefielen mir recht gut in diesem Kontext. :-)

These are the materials I have made use of to create my collage. Additionally to Photo Bashing, I also painted some details myself (shadows, lights, the tongue, smoke,, ...).
For the work on the collage I only used the open source image editor GIMP.

Materialien

Dies sind die Materialien die ich zum Erstellen meiner Collage verwendet habe. Zusätzlich zum Photobashing, habe ich auch Details selbst gemalt (Schatten, Lichter, Rauch, die Zunge ...).
Ich habe für die komplette Arbeit an der Collage, das open source Bildbearbeitungsprogramm GIMP verwendet.

LMAC is a great community for artists of all skill levels. The name of the community is an abbreviation and stands for "Let's make a collage".
Just take a look. Even if you think you are not an artist, LMAC will probably prove you wrong.

Are you a good photographer and would like to contribute some nice good quality photos in exchange for good votes and tribute?
We are currently building our own photo/image library that we can use as a image source for our collages, but also every Hiver beyond LMAC is very welcome to use the images in it.
