EXODE Universe, and 21 Worlds your characters can come from!

in Project HOPE4 years ago

EXODE is a space colonization game on the HIVE blockchain, based on an original story.

After mankind has colonized many worlds, it faces extinction; brutally and with no forward warning. In this desperate situation, players are space captains doing their best to save people and escape to another galaxy. Players have a ship and a crew, but also a collection of assets to trade and receive a planet after their jump.

Feel free to check our concept video or wiki to learn more about it!

The following article was shared to our playerbase, and added to Project Hope after being invited to do so.

This is like, our hello post to the great PH community of authors!

==================================================

Twenty one.
Twenty one cultures your crew members can come from.
That amount can be mind-blowing.
But this is our story.

2325 has seen colonization.
2325 has seen progress.
2325 will see... destruction.

But before this happens... BEFORE THIS HAPPENS!

Let's share the last warcry of humanity, the last efforts of mankind: how they were before, how strong was civilization, how big was our Space Federation. Let's remember how it was. Let's close our eyes, and think about it.

And obviously open your eyes, to read this again.

Let's remember how great was our Federation.

And unfortunately, how authoritative, capitalistic, and corrupt it had become, as well...

COMMON WORLDS IN 2325

socialite_450.png

Old Earth

Let's speak first of Old Earth, or Terra.

You won't find Terrans often in our galaxy, but they are all well taught in Federal Values and Administration. They are trained to fill the ranks of the immense administration of Space Federation.

Terrans are privileged people, and as such, are despised by colonists and have less Popularity. Even if they lived in a polluted, over-industrialized world, and even if a large number of them fell into poverty because of competition with colonies, the ones remaining are now rich and have their family enjoying life in protected bubbles.

They did not know the true hardship of colonization or how unfair the Space Federation was to colonists. They are profiting from settlers. That is why they are disliked by others.

research_450.png

The First Colonies

The first colony was Mars, and the second, Europa.

Mars was an international effort before the Space Federation as we know it existed. It started as an experiment and a science colony. It evolved as a disciplined citizen center, with skillful colonists selected from many, all working toward a global effort to colonize more planets and adapt mankind to this new challenge.

Mars colonists enjoy a bonus to Science and Discipline. However, Mars has a long past and tried several times to become independent, meaning some grudges remain against Federation. Mars has a lack of Federal Values in its culture.

Europa, on the other hand, was different. Advertised as a much more enjoyable place to live in, Europa used martian discoveries and was settled by the richest among the rich. Science, Planetary skills and Piloting are the useful things people have practiced in their spare time and instruction.

guard_300special.png

Corporate Worlds

Entire planets have been licensed to corporations.
Because, why not? Who could have a say against it?

It was so easy to cheat the democratic system with billions. Ads, speeches, smear campaigns, all were tools refined so much to perfection. Elected Politicians were already always corporatists; even when they were playing the opposite card.

Corporations were then well settled in early civilization but they had another advantage to play.

It was too hard and perceived as too conflictual for nations to claim entire planets, and yet there were so many planets to claim! So when the Space Federation started, it also started selling planets in exchange of billions.

And billions came.

And with them, full authority on planets, on colonists, on your entire life in one corporation. Sure, the corporation gave you a home, a job, revenues and a future. As long as you were useful though; you always had to take care of not losing this "edge".

In 2325 many colonists are coming from Corporate Worlds. They enjoy a finer practice of robots and human enhancements, giving them a strong bonus to Cybernetics, as well as Administration and Leadership thanks to corporate culture about being so effective and organized.

However, the highly competitive mindset of corporations made them people building on competition with other teams and always accepting better opportunities, every person securing his own future, leading to a global lack of Loyalty.

Explorer_450special.png

Federal Colonies

With time, competition between corporations led to Corporation Wars, which in turn showed how licensing planets was not as good as it sounded.

Space Federation - called the United Federation of Planets, or "UPF" - also grew stronger as Corporations became more and more divided. New planets were colonized, this time by the Federation itself!

This was the time of our strongest Space Rush.

The Federation needed more and more new colonies to sustain corruption in the old worlds. Initial declarations of rights were lost to global interest and capitalistic needs and it quickly evolved as an authoritative government, with violent police force, military assaults, federal anthems sung, partial history taught to children, just as it was some time before, and defining all opponents as dangerous terrorists.

The Federation was always at war with any colony not paying its taxes, and also at war with any colony thriving enough to be self-sustainable and become a danger.

As more colonies came, the old worlds needed to make sure competition would not trample them.

In turn, some colonies revolted. In some cases it succeeded, such as when the Drachian Republic was formed. But many federal colonies also existed peacefully, and a few of them even thrived. Some are very special, and you will learn more about: Achean Gangs, Linovian Elites, Perseans, and others.

But most of the other colonies were rather poor. Federal Colonists were then extremely varied in their skillset and personal story, with a small bonus to a random skill.

One common point is that living in the frontier worlds, places harder to mankind, made them always skilled in Signals and Radar . Not being able to communicate because of an earthquake, a storm, a nebula, a passing comet, a damaged antenna, which were common occurrences in these worlds harder to colonize? that would be the same as being dead!

Also, they always had to settle in harsh places and find any possible resource they could; making them also skilled a bit in Planetary life.

However, they always lacked the control on the global scope of things. Federation always asked their obedience, not their ability to rule, making them less skilled in Administration.

fixer_300special.png

Spaceborns

Before men came to planets, they built spaceships. And once they reached a place, they often constructed a station. A small one... just something to sustain and study this planet while waiting for others to come. And sometimes, and even, often, it will never go further than that.

This led to many generations being born and actually living their entire life in small ships in space.

You already know about the Nomad Fleet - one of the most important factions of spaceborn people, with some gigantic transports.

... but many of the spaceborn are just isolated families.

Spaceborn know their stuff about ships, making them quite able in Mechanics and Spaceships. But they are at a complete loss once on a planet, making them low in Planetary skill.

The Underworld

Society is always about layers. Some people live above some issues that others have to endure. This is not fair! For a time some declarations of rights pushed things toward a positive, and there was hope, but it did not last or could not be sustained.

As the Federation became more corrupt more people were left behind. The leftovers, the castaways, all ended with different solutions to their situation.

Some accepted short duration low paid contracts and always moved from planet to planet. Many of them ended up poor or in a worse situation than when they started, yet they were still trying to make the best of the situation with their family. They accepted welcome package after welcome package from any corporation, switching from bonus to bonus. They were called Shims and were marginalized as profiteers; Shims move often as a family, are lower than middle class.

Some tried an independent life as a miner or explorer, or lone privateer accepting dangerous tasks; many of them died. The survivors suffered from radiation damage and were often forgotten in a faraway planet. You often see them with varied implants, using whatever leftover thing they find on space hulks to survive. They were called Clynosts.

But others chose to stay. They live in bunkers, they live in slums, they live in secret subterran cities. This is what we really call the Underworld. Underworlders, or unders, or uwies, are mostly illegals, unregistered citizens, living away of society in ignored secret layers of the very own thriving planets that Federation cherish the most.

They don't carry out guns and don't threaten society, keeping a low profile and carrying on with their life. They do hack a few supplies and sustain themselves off society, but mostly built another sort of society of their own, trading service for service.

Underworlders are skilled in Stealth, Programming, and surprisingly skilled in defeating protections and defense programs on their own, giving them some low bonus in Warfare. They of course rejected Federal doctrines, meaning they have very low Federal Values.

Shims and Clynosts are an entirely different caste of leftovers.

==========================================================

Today we shared seven of the 28 backgrounds and faction modifications implemented in E. Of these, 21 are backgrounds, and 7 are faction modifications which can apply 'above' a given background.

During Crew Registration you are allowed to investigate your crew skills and backgrounds. You will also receive upgrade points to improve some skills. For significant points cost, you will also be able to reroll a character's background.

Backgrounds will always give you a background trait and also some important modifications to your skills. Some rare backgrounds also give additional traits or even, equipment.

Next articles will tell you more about Shims, Clynosts, Linovians, Perseans, Psionic Academists and Templars - among other options that may appear!

The intent of the Backgrounds feature is twofold. Not only does this feature deliver more about depth, variations in gameplay but also your 'unique experience', but it also goes a long way in terms of 'fairness'; as such variety can be received already from starters thanks to crew generation.

Thanks to this, players will keep a deeper connection with eXode lore, and will also explore how to complete their citizen roster with the ones of other players, thanks to trade in the new galaxy.

Hi @elindos

Thanks for sharing this post in PH and we are glad to have you here.

I have heard about the game but never played so don't know much about it. You have shared a nice description of the game but I think being a new user I have to spend more time learning and understand the game. Although the graphics etc are so nice and I was looking for the option for a demo or practice mode but could not find. Appreciate if you can please help me with this if available. I have joined discord as well so hopefully I can now learn more of the project and the game.

@crypto.piotr told me about it and I like it in the first place.

Thank you so much.

The demo version can be found here :-)

Keep in mind though that it's an early Alpha build, so expect many loose ends and not much of an explanation. We are expecting the release of the new version (Version E) pretty soon which should be a lot more feature complete.

If you need any help getting into it or have any other questions, feel free to ask them in our Discord

Dear @elindos , I am a gamer i play LOL, WOW, and many games, I tell you that here you have a very interesting concept, the story you propose is well planted, it is very political and I quite like that it gives seriousness to the game, nowadays people want immerse yourself in these fictional worlds and forget about the real world, I really want to know more I read in a comment that subscribing costs 10 dollars, maybe I won't do it right away but believe me I'm going to subscribe.

by the way welcome to the PH family

There's no actual subscription. You only need to buy an Origin once for 10$, afterwards the game is free to play as much as you like :-)

Hello @elindos
It is impressive the detailed description you make of the whole story, it is really very easy to visualize it, to follow it while reading the publication.
The images look great.
I could say that it is a kind of script for a science fiction movie, but of course, I know that it is a game in the HIVE blockbuster chain.
Thanks for sharing it.

Resteemed and Pinned already @elindos

Love to see your first publication within our PH community :)

Solid upvote ... on the way :)

In many ways, the dysfunctional, corrupt dystopia that you describe sounds quite similar to the horrors of planet Earth, circa 2020 CE.

In other words, your game sounds very interesting and maybe even challenging. Good luck with it here on HIVE.

Hello @elindos.

The description you make of the game makes it look interesting as well as the gameplay test, I hope I can play it. Greetings and thanks for sharing

I've been waiting for a game this big from hive. Bookmarked and reblogged because I'm a bit busy ATM but definitely want to check this out!

Excellent job on building a universe with interesting narratives. I personally like the Corporate Worlds. Does that make me evil? haha 😁 Great work, I can't wait to see the progression of the game.

This is what makes HIve a fantastic place to be... initiatives such as this one! I am not much of a gamer myself, except for small addictions to games such as Subspace (Continuum), Heroes Quest (way back ago), some Call of Duty, and maybe Mario Kart back in the days... and Starcraft... Well, maybe I have been playing a lot in the end. But, nowadays I don't really play, but I really get joy reading about the initiative, and I wish you all the best and all luck in this process!

Thank you @unbiasedwriter ! Glad to have you interested!
We will keep sharing and try to be as good as our 'cult' games.

great initiative, I hope they develop a game app for android and other operating systems, and thus be able to enjoy it from the phone

I basically feel that no one will have a problem playing this game because it's totally explanatory. Such a game on the blockchain is cool. The game mode and the explorations and all looks cool and awesome plot to the game by the way, I'm reblogging it to reach more people.

Dear @elindos

Thank you for sharing this link with me. I've checked out Exode Game just now and .. just few words/questions first:

a) "sign in" screen:
those fonts are to small (at least on desktop).
I could hardly read "If you are an EXODE captain already, please enter your HIVE account". Comparing to fonts on hive - those in the game are almost twice smaller (Im using brave browser).

b)
"Or you can also click here to access this account's public profile." -> what does it actually mean?

c)
Is there any way to test game before user would actually purchase one of the starters worth 10$?

It may be quite difficult to convince users to try out this game and consider playing it, without having an opportunity to see what is this game about.

d) Based on my understanding, you're using keychain as the only way to sign in to exode? What about other options, like hivesigner?

So far I'm quite impressed with efforts of your work.

Yours, Piotr

This is in line with some of our discussions about gaming on hive. Also really nice comment about being able to try prior to purchase. Even non-crypto games allow for this period

Thank you greatly @machnbirdsparo!

the good news are that we have a demo!
Please check our link below.
It is a former build with a fixed starter; we don't have this one on maintenance; a new build is coming this month.

Note that games such as Splinterlands (if we speak of crypto games) were not free to play for extremely long after release though (AFAIK of course) .

And for games which are not freetoplay games, if we speak of non-crypto this time, they rarely propose a demo! Especially... when on alpha! as we are still on alpha.

Even better, they usually are on NDA when in alpha, to make sure no media is there with their unfixed version, whereas we are not on NDA.

Free demo can still give the wrong impression this early and extend the number of test situations before we can address the common one, but indeed the idea is not to prevent from experiencing the game.

So... enjoy the game!

I hope everything will go smoothly for you!
if not, please check our discord, as I won't be able to track errors easily from replies.

Enjoying the graphics

Did you see this trailer @machnbirdsparo

https://hive.blog/hive-174578/@balticbadger/adsnkbry?

Really interesting piece of work.

if you would ever plan to try out exode and decide to create an account, then please let me know. I will share with you my ref-link and I can cover half of value of your "starter card". This will allow us to be near each other within this game, which will apparently help with trade and future progresss

Cheers,
Piotr

Sent you some screenshots of me playing the demo in discord. Also added some of the demo shots to the developer's post.

Good for all of us on the blockchain, the more games are active, the better for growth.

Congratulations on this great initiative. the future is ours and it is now at this very moment.

Thank you for being in our community.

Thank you for this warm welcome!

I watched teaser. I hope that it's a wonderful game. Nice graphics, Game lover people will enjoy this game. now i am reading and surfing about this game.

Hi @elindos ,
it look like science based game and after checking the images , i can say that it comes with unique concept. well i will know everything when i start this game

Thank you for the kind words, and also for spreading the word!

Lots of reading. I've always been a fan for space stuff since I myself is a Trekkie. I don't wanna give too much promise, I will hop over and checkout the landing page with @crypto.piotr referral link. For now, a rehive is more proper for support.

Solid back story with a nice progression. Options for starter pack was a tough choice between scientists and leader. I'm really glad the Hive now has an exciting game. Splinterlands is OK, but it's not a whole world. Encountered some issue trying to get a pack, but will give it another try when I get some more free time. I've joined discord as well. So I'll inquire about the issue I faced there.

I was asked to checkout this post by my good friend @crypto.piotr and I’m glad I did .
The game sounds interesting and I had previously heard about it from @agr8buzz over at @battlegames .
Reading through your post about some of the factions in the game it sounds like you have already have a large backstory to the game .
I noticed you said at the start that the game is based on an original story .
Has this story already been written ?
If so what id the name of the book?
I previously played @nextcolony and was disappointed when this game closed down .
I hope you are looking to make a long term game like @splinterlands which has continued to grow and is now the number 1 blockchain game.
I have been a little confused from pieces I have read here and there though too about Exode . I first thought it was a card game like Splinterlands but I also read there ships and hangers as well as crew .
What type of game is Exode ? A TCG ?
Regardless I am intrigued and looking forward to playing this game .
Great post , have an awesome day!

It's hard to describe what eXode is in a single sentence. It basically is a Space Exploration Colony Management Decision Making Trading Card Game - sounds simple, right ;-)?

Jokes aside, it is a trading card game at its core but it works a little different then classical TCGs like Magic the Gathering or Splinterlands. When you start a new game, you pick an Origin and a Ship that you then populate with officers and crew. All these are actual tradable cards. Once the game starts, these cards are bound to that game and can't be used again until the game concludes.

So basically, you start a game by building a deck from your cards but then these cards evolve into more than just cards. The game itself is made up of a fast paced Evacuation and a more laid back but also more complex Colonization stage.

If you want to know more or have any more questions, feel free to say hello in our Discord

Pretty solid idea for a game . A wiki a detailed story line and the video kind of blew me leaving me mighty impressed. How many people behind the game development if I may ask.
I am pretty impressed with the level of detail.
All this in a browser game . Pretty impressive

There's one active developer right now - @elindos, but there are more people active behind the scenes:
We have three artists, two of them (@nachofigx and @shinoxl) are even active here on Hive. Then there's a composer for the ingame sound/music and finally two community managers - @balticbadger and myself.

I have to say dear @khazrakh all the hard work that each one of you are putting in makes you a cohesive team and the effect is 1+1 is not 2 but becomes 11
Hope the synergy continues like this because good teamwork is half the battle won.
Good luck to you guys :)

Hello! Welcome to ProjectHope Community @elindos

That's a fabulous class division. You've thought a lot about the story. It looks interesting.

I wish you great success in your project.

It's quite an impressive project that you have running here. I like the graphics and the story line. I will have a look at the demo version :-)

This game looks cool. And I should commend the robust explanations here. I wish you all the best with this project.

The storyline of the game has already piqued my interest. The trailer also gave a visual explanation of the game. I think I'm gonna give it a try.

Nice one buddy

Greetings friend.@elindos. As you mention the game seems to be very interesting, I hope I have the opportunity to enjoy it and play it too. Thanks for sharing this article

For the now, I just watched the trailer and I really enjoyed it. What a job well done here. I want to ask this question, can this game be played on mobile devices?

There is nothing which prevents it from working on mobile, on browser, except it is not enough tested/fixed in that version for now so things may be out of place. I advise to wait for a few weeks for playing it on mobile.

I'll make sure to have more news to share so that you can think about us again at that time ;)

Hello friend, you make an excellent description of the game, it looks very interesting the first impression how much and I have taken a pleasant impression. Thanks for sharing the information! 🤝

Good luck. It seems you and your fellows design the future!

It looks like a very interesting game! Is there a cheat sheet? hehehe

good one hahaha :)

Hello @elindos
Thanks for posting in the project Hope family and we are glad to see you here. I am not a pro gamer but I try to learn games on the blockchain.
This post is quite descriptive and has lots of knowledge about the exode game. I will try to learn and I like the graphics as well. I will certainly join the game once I go through it and I see that you have confirmed about demo mode as well. I like sci-fi games and this looks exciting to me. Thanks for sharing the post. Have a great weekend.

Hi @elindos
Welcome to PH
Really fascinating the explanation you give us. I declare myself a total beginner in this type of game, but it sounds quite tempting.

I love gaming but can you explain a little more what we have to do first. Immediately when I am on the page they ask to buy something at $10

Aye, you do need an Origin to play the game - much like the Spellbook you need to buy in Splinterlands. Other than that, everything is free though and you won't have to spend any more money if you don't want to.

There's a free version of the game if you want to give it a shot first. Keep in mind though that it's an early Alpha build, so expect many loose ends and not much of an explanation. We are expecting the release of the new version (Version E) pretty soon which should be a lot more feature complete.

I will give a try next week on the pay version.

Dear @elindos

Finally I had a chance to read your post from A to Z.... and I decided not only to share this publication with several most active PH community members, but I also will spent few bucks and play that game myself :)

It seems that 2325 would be even worse than 2020 :P

I wonder who came up with all that story-line. Was that you @elindos?

Did you guys consider recording some youtube video, with someone reading that story in the background (with a nice manly voice)? I would love to be able to close my eyes and listen to this story ... it would probably help me trigger immagination more than reading does.

Post upvoted and resteemed.
Have a great day ahead buddy,
Yours, Piotr

I do write these things; the setting of eXode is inspiring enough! There is also a novel project.

Interesting suggestion too! And I can already think of one member of our community who has a calm and interesting voice.

Who is that person @elindos?

@SlabakBG was mentioned several times as having a good and very clean voice :D ... hello here Slabak ! (since I tagged you maybe you'll come up here!)

But personally, if I were to do a company video about the story in 2325, it would need to be an emotional voice, so it engages another field too and needs to work on it. It could also actually be a female voice. But for the subjects of corporate and political corruption, it's true a male voice can fit too. This is an odd thing to conclude but I feel like it is.

I would not say the same about tasking a captain with saving people, for which I believe a female voice has better layers of emotions for our players (I am just thinking out loud here, not really pushing this as any argument).

Some years ago I worked with a sound engineer who recorded sound actors (such as Stefan, I would gladly share his last name too but don't know his situation and don't want him bothered; he was the german voice in Gears of War).

Stefan really committed something huge and it was a great experience to me to work with such "AAA skilled creative persons" who could also work for small studios, just like that.

So yes, it is very interesting to push 2325 in creative art and sounds. Definitely planned.

Thanks for the shout-out Commander! I can try my hand at different voices, but I believe it's a job best left for the professionals. Ideally we can get behind with a wider team, a Narrator, a Male lead, Female lead and a "Robot voice" or 2 is a good cast for any audiobook novella :)

EDIT: The Narrator voice actor from Darkest Dungeon can be approached to narrate eXode as well :) Just saying

Great article! And blockchain gaming is a fascinating topic.

I like the introduction video. Wish good luck to your project.

the story has a lot of potential and what I like most is the trade in the game I think that's great.

This is a great innovation which the hive block chain really need at these time to Foster the growth, exposure and development of the hive platform

Great plot for the game
