Introduction

It happens everyday at places of work all over the world. Millions of employees at all levels have to endure this emotional killer. You are singled out for punishment because you refused to turn a blind eye to someone else who is being treated unfairly. Victimization comes in various forms. It include but is not limited to bullying, being labelled a trouble-maker, verbal assault, being blamed when things go wrong, being denied opportunities for training or promotion, disciplined, etc. Victimization may even become so extreme that you loose your job. Most employees that suffer victimization become confused, emotionally hurt, unable to concentrate and may even live in fear. The effects of victimization are sometimes so severe that the victim remain in a state of shock long after they had left the work environment.

Nobody deserves to be blamed for something they had not done. Noone deserves to be shouted at or intimidated in some way. However, millions of employees go through this emotional killer hours on end, everyday they come to work. So if you or your loved one is be victimized at work, here are 3 suggestions that may prove helpful.

1. Gather evidence: Sometimes, victimization happens or may exist and yet the management is not aware of such thing. It may occur within the lower levels of management. So if you believe that you are truly being victimized, you need to gather some evidence to support your claim. Most times, the bully may deny it when it becomes public. They may completely refute your claims and if such happens, noone will believe your story. So you need to discreetly gather evidence in any forms that could stored. Your evidence might include electronic recordings, or other forms. When you have your evidences at hand, it may become easier to follow the next steps to tackle the problem.

2. Make a formal complaint: You need to make a formal complaint about what is happening to the management. It could be to the department head, the HR or even the board. You have to be detailed in relating the situation and support your claims with the evidences gathered earlier. Doing this may sometimes be difficult especially if the bully is higher in position. But if you have the courage to report the situation, then you may be a step ahead of solving the problem.

3. Get help: You could seek the help of your lawyer or some professionals. The effects of be victimized can go a long way to destroy your emotional well-being. Professionals in this field can help you get your orientation and feelings back to normal. Your lawyer may have professional advice that can help you pursue the case. A health specialist could be enlisted to offer therapy to cope with the health challenges that may arise. When you get help, you are better positioned to face the situation with a view to overcoming it.

Conclusion

Being victimized at work is one of the worst things to go through in life. Victims loose self esteem, live in fear, drop productivity levels, and in some cases, have taken their life. DO everything you can as fast as possible if you find yourself in this situation. Running away from it or simply keeping up with is usually ineffective. Facing the situation squarely may prove difficult, but it is always the right thing to do.
