RACISM: A RE-OCCURING MENACE AMONG EMPLOYEES AND BUSINESS CLIENTS

Companies are expected to have policies which serves as guidelines/rules that helps protect the interest of its employees as well as their customers. There are applicable rules that oversee employer - employee relationship, that keeps the employer in good relations with the employee. Bearing in mind that before a company could hire a person, he or she must be familiar with the code of conduct of the company, non-compliance attracts a fine or dismissal from work.

There's a business term that "Customers are always right", I bet you, that's a wrong narrative, a deceitful statement business owners use to cajole their customers to keep patronizing them. I will specifically state that A Customer is not always right & COVID19 has brought out the worst in them.

In 2019, while I was working for a Tech business as her HQ Manager, I was poised with the responsibilities of daily business negotiations with customers. I took my time to study people I meet daily and not judge them by the character they exhibit whilst negotiating the price of a service or goods. I noticed they always refer me to that deceitful term mentioned above. Even when it's obvious they are wrong, but for the sake of not loosing customers and staying in business, I'd have to suppress my tenacity and sprinkle a bit of love and compassion which atimes may work and we strike a deal or you walk away, it's your choice.

I read about an employee of that was fired by a delivery company due to events that ensued between him and a white customer. The employee delivered a package and next, the white man ran out, cursing the black man who delivered the package, he kept threatening them and said "I'd whoop your black as out". The man apologized and was about leaving when the W man told him "f*k yall". That's so racist bruh. The customer narrated the story to the cops as a break-in, a threat to him and his family which is rather untrue.

It's rather unfortunate the black dude was fired for reasons I don't seem to wrap my head around.

Firing of these Essential Workers is obscene.

And oh! After so many tags, call out and mails, the recipient company issued a statement he would reinstate the fired workers, but if I were the employees, I'd think twice or rather switch jobs, it ain't worth it. That's against the policy of organizations, I'd rather sue you for not protecting my rights as your employee.

Employees battle racism, profiling at their jobs all for a paycheck. Employers should not turn deafening ears towards the plight of their employees because customers are not always right. Legal actions should be taken whenever a case of threat, profiling and racial abuses are reported by your employees.

If business owners continue ignoring cases of such maltreatment, it's on the verge of collapse, you loose your customers once the news gets to social media. We can all do better.

In the event of pandemic disease, essential workers are the true Legends and they should be treated as one. Racism has no place in our world.

We really need to frown at racism. We are all human beings, let's not ill-treat people because of their race or tribe

Thank you for this. It's really pathetic the people treat others

Thank you Tom

Dear @timmyeu

I used to live for several years in number of Asian countries and racism towards "white" population has been very strong. somehow noone seemed to care. It really seem to me, that racism is only bad, when it's a caucasian person treating any other race badly. Never the other way around.

Unfortunatelly :/

I didn't think of it that way, it's true most of the time it's against black people or people of color, it's rare to see racism towards white people, at least for us it's not usual, I've never seen or heard of any case. But I imagine that in every country there will be its kind of racism. @crypto.piotr

Hi @franyeligonzalezh

it's true most of the time it's against black people or people of color

I highly disagree. Most of the time so called "whites" are to concern, educated or simply worried to show any sign of racism towards dark skin citizens. At the same time the other way around there are usually no bounderies.

Reality is, that there is very little chance to witness any sort of racism coming to europe (example) as an African, comparing to situation when as a caucasian I would come to Africa (you will witness racism towards you over and over again). And everyone seem to be okey with it.

I even once almost lost a good job, because I called one of my co-worker "black mate" and he reported me. When I tried to explain that this person with few others were calling me "white boy" on daily basis - I was told that noone cares. That they can sue me for being racist and I will lose, but the other way around it will simply not work.

Cheers, thx for your comment,
Yours, Piotr

Impressive, I didn't know that that kind of thing happened in other countries, we are used to other kinds of racism, usually the racism you hear and see most in the media is towards people of color, or at least what I have heard. Greetings!

I think you should write on your experience there. I hardly know of such but that doesn't dispute facts that it exists.

Racism has always existed and I unfortunately believe that it will always exist, obviously I do not agree with this, many take advantage of the need of the other to humiliate them, mistreat them, pay them less, and many accept because well they need to support themselves, but the truth is that many people suffer from this and it seems that nobody cares.

It's true people suffer daily and no one seems to care. I wrote this to change someone's mind towards people of other races. Racism has no place in our hearts

I think it's excellent to write about that kind of topics, it's important to raise your voice!

Good article. It's all about respect. People who do essential jobs should be treated well and paid better than they are (the job is essential - it should have a pay packet that reflects that). And I don't know how we deal with racism. When I was growing up in the 70's and early 80's in the UK there was a lot of that about, but people worked hard and I was stupid enough to think it had (not exactly disappeared or been wiped out but had) reduced substantially and was something that most people agreed was wrong. But in the last few years all over the world it seems to have come back. And come back strong too. We need to respect and love each other more.

Thank you for this piece. I strongly hope things will get better soon enough
