Just when I was about to begin drafting this article, I was seated with a friend, and we were discussing how difficult it has been to cope with the high cost of data recently due to the hike in price. It all boils down to how and where we have been consuming it. For him, his go-to app that always consumes his data subscription is YouTube. Yes, he loves to download/save YouTube videos a lot because that is where he watches his movies. There is always a pending video to download/save on his YouTube, and immediately he gets data, those videos automatically start downloading. Before he knows it, half or, if not, the whole data is gone. I was surprised to some extent about the YouTube thing, and that is just for movie watching in his case. Well, that is for him, and that is what gives him pleasure. I expected him to say TikTok or Instagram, but no, it is YouTube.
As for me, the most used app for me is WhatsApp. This app consumes a large portion of my monthly data subscription, and I do not feel bad about it because that is where I have my conversations since I do not make calls often. However, I have my way of managing its usage, considering the kind of things I read, watch, the people I chat with, and my internet bundle usage. You will agree with me that WhatsApp has become a full social media app and no longer just a chatting app. Back then, WhatsApp was known only for chats and calls, but now, one can stay online and get current happenings in the world and within one’s area. This is based on the channels and the kind of people one is linked to. So yes, I get updates on things happening on WhatsApp anytime I feel like knowing, and when I check into the feeds of people or channels I am following. Although I am yet to follow a channel because the first time I did before returning to my normal pattern, I felt my WhatsApp status page was disorganized in a way I did not like.
The next app I use often is Facebook, and I use the Lite version, which appears simple and 'economical' to me. I use this for fun and nothing more. I use this app to get updates on trends and sports updates too. I love to laugh; I love a situation where people are not 'strict and serious' about life, and Facebook life is a pure definition of this. I read comics and 'unserious' things daily, and I laugh out loud. Sports are a big vibe too, and it is always entertaining to read banter, especially when a top team flops.
These are the top two apps I use the most. The other social apps like X, Instagram, or TikTok are just there on my phone for task performance, such as completing a task for an airdrop. Ohh! I use X to check updates and share my Hive posts too, but that is not a big deal for me.
Thanks for reading.
