Challenges are a part of the human nature. No matter what, we are bound to experience some sort of challenge in our lives. It can be in the form of our education, health, finance, relationships and family. I am no stranger to challenges and this particular one had me worried for a longtime.
It was a year and a few months ago when I was faced with this problem. Probably this time last year, I was still in it. I was invited to join this Ponzi scheme that was the talk of town then. After initial refusal, I gave in when I saw how much my friends were earning. You can call it peer pressure. I then decided to invest in quite frankly something that had scam written all over it.
So, I went in with an initial small investment and was making small profit. The first investment was 50 USDT. I was following the rules initially because the leader would give us trading signals during certain hours and suggest we trade either long or short. One rule was that, if you do not follow the rules and unfortunately we are not able to make profit, you would not be reimbursed. At each trading hour, we would have a maximum of 4 trades which would be in 8 stages each. But, if the trade is successful in say stage 1, there's no need to move to stage 2 and we start another trade. Each stage had its unique amount to trade with depending on your investment. It was necessary to follow the plan provided for you should there be a need for reimbursing.
Initially, there were no problems and so I decided to up my investment and added more usdt or tether. I wanted to milk the cow before it got dry. The cow had other plans haha. Same as always, I followed the rules till I realized I could make more by changing my plan. My trading plan was based on my $100 investment but I decided to triple that and use $300 instead. After all, we never exceeded stage6 5 since I joined. All was rosy and I was making more money till I didn't.
On this particular day we reached level 6 and since it wasn't my plan, I lost for the first time. Foolish me invested again and continued with the same foolish pattern. This time I even added my own trading to it. I was in class one night trading happily and succeeding. I look back at it now and realize how I messed up. I started losing that night and instead of stopping, I just decided to trade till the money finished. I do not know if it's same with everyone but when they get you like you, you cannot stop investing.
Fast forward, this turned out to be a scam and because I was heartbroken and pissed at myself, I did the unthinkable. Instead of staying away, I went on a hunt for more Ponzi schemes because I thought if I caught one early, I could get some of my funds back. I lost my money there too and man, I was really messed up. My savings and few earnings I had made offline were almost gone. I could not think straight and if not for the intervention of my family, I would have lost the little I had left.
My family got to know since I told my sister and she kept asking if it was still beneficial. I had to tell her everything that happened and how I was spiraling. She knows me and she knows when I start to feel this way, it is my mother that can help. I did not want my mom to know but I am glad she did tell her. My mom called me and spoke to me and advised I stopped before I burn out all my savings.
But we both know it wouldn't work and so she took my phone and changed the password or pin to my mobile money account. Was I glad at the time? No. But I am very thankful she did. Fortunately, that helped and because I am not much of a borrower, I did not borrow funds from friends. I was able to get myself out of the situation with the intervention of my family and my also making more research into cryptocurrency. It was almost at the same time I got introduced to hive as well but since I was in a bad place, I did not take hive seriously then.
When I got better and was no longer on a road to self destruct due to the anger I had, I learnt more about these stuff and I was okay.
