I got a text from my next-door neighbor asking me if I also received a call from the landlord and I replied no, I asked her what he said and she told me the landlord said her rent had been increased to 650 000 Naira from 450 000 and after she flared up, he told her the lowest he can accept is 600 000 Naira.
If other landlords/ladies are increasing their rent, my landlord isn't supposed to try that because the house is problematic! The network is F9, Ventilation is F9, so many ants, and earthworms are found in the bathroom, different kinds of flies too in the bathroom and no one knows where they come from, molds on the wall because of leakage and so many other problems and he dares to increase the rent.
Unfortunately, the tenants have no choice but to succumb to the decisions of the landlord unless he/she is ready to move out, so my neighbor has no choice but to pay that ridiculous amount, as for me I am leaving already so if he messages me concerning rent increase, I will just say okay, I won't reveal my intention of moving out until I rent another apartment.
The other neighbor by my right is also moving out, her POP fell 7 months ago and the landlord did nothing about it, he didn't fix it because he fixed it 9 months ago before the thing fell again, but whose fault? so that one is also moving out as she can't bear the problems in the house anymore.

Yesterday, I was gisting with one of the tenants living upstairs and I mentioned how lucky he was that his apartment is upstairs, he said that is true but doesn't mean he didn't share in the problem too because most of his foodstuffs always rot because there was no ventilation in his room and sometimes he also has to climb his bed to find the network but his own is better than us occupying the ground floor.
I can't wait to finish school so I can run away from this area cos I should not be there if not because of school, paying millions of house rent is ridiculous and not something I would practice if not for the necessity and lack of other options. My mind is fixed and the decision is made now that I am parking out by May or before May!.
As a young man, if you have the funds, prioritize building a house even if it is a two-bedroom flat to save yourself from wasting funds on rent in the future... A man shared his story that he built three houses in 2019 and the total cost was 30 million Naira and the 3 houses are now worth above 100 million Naira this year... The cost of house building materials becomes more expensive every day so do not procrastinate if you have the funds now... Cement that was 3000 Naira in 2022 is now 10,000 Naira, it is just crazy! rent will only keep going up too, so think about it.

F9 lol, makes me reminiscent on my school days. I think the better option for many of us is to own a house as early as we can. Because renting is a losing game, on many aspects. It makes no sense to increase rent when there is no valuable improvement in house, in fact, it may be getting less valuable :)

The increase in rent is too much in my opinion. It's more than 30% and it's hard to believe. I feel you should run away from the place in the future and live in other state for saving some money for the future.
By the way, What is meant by F9? Does it mean Fine?
It means failure, as in the bottom or last position. It's kind of a grading system in certain schools. A1 is excellent, B2 very good, etc..

My landlord has actually increased rent by 200k as well, but she's yet to communicate it to me. I think they all have a landlord association meeting and they've come together to increase the rent by 200k. I have some spoilage in my place too and the owner has refused to fix them, saying it was my duty to fix them. Everyone needs to actually own their place, even if it's just two bedroom.
na wa o, and they know how hard the economy is, how will someone working offline afford that, they are making life unbearable for people, even landlords who built their house 20 years ago will still say house materials is costly now...
the best decision is indeed to own a house...Unfortunately not everyone have the means to own one

lagos is the weapon fashioned against many people who are trying to suffer, i really didn't see the hype of lagos except the stable light but increasing house rent when the house is even problematic is really funny i can share the pain because my house network is F9 and ventilation is very poor too😂
honestly, if not because of schooling, I won't hesitate to move immediately... but i have to bear it till am done... how are you coping with the network and ventilation
