This can be a bit controversial but I find ligers and tigons fascinating. Ligers are the offspring of a male lion and a female tiger while tigons are the offspring of a male tiger and female lion.
It's somewhat of a sad existence because those animals very often have many health issues. Also, the male of both ligers and tigons can't reproduce but the females can. Those second generation cross breads have their own specific names. We even have some cases of third generation hybrids but they are very rare.
It's not good that humans force the cross bread but I do find it fascinating the way that nature works that it can happen. I would prefer if it only happened naturally and humans only participated in the care of those animals after it occurred.
Poor ligers do have a difficult life, they weren't meant to interbreed. Tigers and lions don't share territories in our modern world so you won't see them pop up nature anymore. I'm sure they did when the tiger had a larger range. Hybrids makes for some great tasting citrus fruit by doesn't always work out as well with mammals!
