Overview
Welcome back Splinterlands battlemages to another edition of "For Guild & Glory," my brawl report series covering all the action from Tier 5 Fray 20 Gold Foil Modern Silver League for @shield-of-glory, the top-ranked Splinterlands guild and flagship of the Kingdom of Glory [KoG] alliance. DuceCrypto & Shield of Glory
Another Tier 5 brawl, and another 1st place finish for Shield of Glory, narrowly beating out our KoG alliance members Guardians of Glory by just 2 wins. Huge shoutout to my five guildmates who finished the brawl with a flawless 7-0 record: @bravetofu, @tarazkp, @megakyodaibanrai, @infiniteworld, and @stephenkinglee! This is a beautiful sight to see!
Look at those returns: 231 crowns, 11088 merits, and almost 359 SPS! Those are huge numbers and with three brawl cycles every season, that 1K+ SPS is a nice boost to my seasonal earnings. Enough about the tokens, let's get to the battles!
BATTLE 1 at @jedielf of [KoG] Guardians of Glory
Right off the bat with the battle against my ally JediElf. This was a narrow contest with magic-only, 16 mana, and only 2 splinters. I was surprised he didn't run dragon, but so it goes. Akane gave me the pop I needed out of the gate, and the speed of Djinn Apprentice carried the battle.
BATTLE 2 vs @karameru of T&A Legion I
Another week and another lesson from karameru. It wasn't anything I didn't already know -- Isgald Vorst is one of the best Gladiators around. I tried to go over the top with Akane + Venka, but it just doesn't have the same oomph at Silver League. The recurred armor from bloodlust put Vorst out of reach. Ouch!
BATTLE 3 at @maplelicious of YGG Brawlers (Asgard)
Maplelicious is an active tournament player and frequents the Day 2 Leaderboards, so I am glad to have their strong competition in our Tier 5 Fray 20. They taught me a lesson with Tofu's thorns against the melee aggression of Possibilus. With two opportunity attackers (for trample), I didn't have enough focused damage on the tank to take down their Grim Smith in front. Also, check out that sick tech of strapping up Captain Katie with the triage and scavenge tactic -- that must be especially good in Katie mirrors!
BATTLE 4 vs @splintercogg of Legendary Raptors
Uggh, I stacked up another frustrating loss in this one. I know it was greedy to run Vorst in this thorns ruleset, but I just needed Sethropod to hold out through the first round so my opportunity Gladiator could wipe out three monsters in the backline in Round 2. Instead, Vorst got forced up to tank and will always lose that head-to-head battle against Alva.
BATTLE 5 at @masteryawner of [YGG] Legion
They Fled! I win! Always nice to win an easy road battle and I sure needed it after a poor performance so far!
BATTLE 6 vs @odinsonzclan of The MobyDicks
Ancient Redwood stole the show in this battle, delivering big chunky attacks guaranteed with true strike. The magic attack from Florre also helps a bunch in the range-only ruleset when both sides bring Quix's -1 range to battle. They opted for life, getting tank heal from Crystalsmith and two sneaky snipe attackers that did take out my Tatiana Blayde Gladiator before she could get going. But those two giant earth legendaries took care of business with giant-sized attacks to overcome the heal ability.
BATTLE 7 at @buloy of The Guild of Neoxian
I ran with my tried and true strategy of giving Kharafax a dual attack in this medium-mana battle, but I got demolished by a 2x martyred Inevitable given heal by Avina with two more tank heals in the back. I did not diversity my attack, and even with all the firepower aimed at their tank, it was not close to enough to threaten their thrice-healed and immune Inevitable.
Conclusion
Well, that was a sad performance after a strong showing last week. Luckily, my guildmates pulled through with another champion-level performance to take down the Tier 5 brawl by a few wins. This next cycle is HUGE! We're going for the three-peat and it will be Splinterlands' 250th brawl. Such a cool milestone -- I hope we can take it down again.. again.. HA! Until next time...
