Back at ZKM After 12 Years - A Place of Fond Memories / 12年ぶりに思い出のZKMへ

12 years later, I’m back in Karlsruhe, a city in the southwest of Germany that holds a special place in my heart. It’s been 13 years since I was studying in Austria and applied to the AppArtAward competition by ZKM. That was my very first opportunity to exhibit my work in Germany.

ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien) is one of the leading media art centers in the world, focused on the intersection of art and technology.

The space is just as vast and creatively charged as I remember. Just walking through the halls sparked so much inspiration. I couldn’t help but think, “It would be amazing to create and exhibit something here.” It took me back to those early days when I was just stepping into the world of media art.

I have a few projects and ideas in the works right now, but none of them feel quite fully formed yet. I’d rather wait until they naturally take shape, maybe around 80% ready, before submitting to a competition like I did back then.

I’m going to hold onto that spark of inspiration from ZKM and see where it takes me.

(And honestly… having a place like this nearby sounds pretty tempting. Karlsruhe is just a direct train ride to Berlin and Paris — maybe living here wouldn’t be such a bad idea!)

12年ぶりにドイツの南西部の街、カールスルーエにいます。この街は、私にとって特別な思い出の場所です。13年前、まだオーストリアに研究留学していた頃、ZKMという美術館のAppArtAwardというコンペに応募し、ドイツで初めて展示する機会に恵まれました。

ZKM（Zentrum für Kunst und Medien）は、ドイツ・カールスルーエにあるアートとテクノロジーの融合をテーマにした世界有数のメディアアートセンターです。

圧倒的な広さとクリエイティブな空間は当時のままで、館内を歩きまわるだけでインスピレーションを与えてくれました。「こんなところで制作や展示ができたら楽しいだろうな」と思いながら、初心に立ち返るような気持ちになりました。そうそう、メディアアートの世界に足を踏み入れてまもない頃だったんですよね。

今、作りかけている作品やアイディアはいくつかありますが、無理に捻り出すのではなく、自然に80％くらいの形になるのを待って、また当時のようにコンペに応募していきたいです。

そんな思いを胸に、ZKMで感じた刺激を自分の中に落とし込んでいこうと思うのでした。

（こういう空間が身近にあるっていいなあ。パリまで電車で一本でいけるし、カールスルーエで暮らすのもいいのかも！なんて。）
