Good morning to all hive friends. During our excursion, one of the most beautiful and exciting places we visited was the Nine Arches Bridge in Ella. This location is also known as the “Bridge in the Sky,” and it is one of the most famous landmarks in Sri Lanka.
The Nine Arches Bridge was constructed around 1921 during the British colonial period. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it was built entirely from stone, rock, and cement, without using any steel. Local builders worked alongside British engineers to create this incredible structure, which, even after nearly a century, still stands strong. The bridge consists of nine elegant arches and stretches across a deep valley surrounded by lush green tea plantations and hills. When a train passes over the bridge, it creates one of the most breathtaking sights in Sri Lanka, which is why many people travel to see it.
When we arrived at the Nine Arches Bridge, a large crowd had already gathered. Visitors from many places had come to enjoy the view and wait for the train to pass over the bridge. The area was lively, filled with energy and conversations. However, during our visit, there was no train at that time. Even so, the bridge, together with the beautiful green surroundings, gave us much to appreciate.
We decided to have our breakfast there. Sitting together near the bridge, sharing our meal, and breathing in the fresh mountain air made our journey even more special. The children were especially delighted—they not only enjoyed the food and played happily but also had the chance to learn a little history about the bridge. It truly became a moment where both joy and learning came together in one place.
Although the train did not come while we were there, we still took time to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the calm yet vibrant atmosphere. Watching the clouds drift over the hills and seeing the giant arches standing tall reminded us of the hard work and creativity that went into building this masterpiece so many years ago.
Our visit to the Nine Arch Bridge was an unforgettable part of our excursion. It gave us a mix of history, nature, and happy memories with friends and children.
