Daily Blog - I finally arrived in Humahuaca in Jujuy, in much better circumstances than I had planned. / Finalmente llegué a Humahuaca en Jujuy, en circunstancias mucho mejores que las planeadas. 😃❤️

In the universe there is an alternative timeline in which my last three weeks of September last year were spent in Humahuaca, Jujuy province. This is how I had planned everything on my route as I moved from one volunteer placement to another in different hostels in the north of Argentina, but things don't always work out the way you want them to. After an unforeseen event, my plans changed a bit, but I'm happy to say it was for the better. Sometimes uncertainty can scare me, but this experience of having to change plans on the fly taught me that the spontaneous can turn out better than expected 😃.

En el universo existe una línea de tiempo alternativa en las que mis tres últimas semanas de septiembre del año pasado las pasé en Humahuaca, provincia de Jujuy. Así había planeado todo en mi ruta mientras me movía de un voluntariado a otro en distintos hosteles del norte de Argentina, pero las cosas no siempre salen como uno quiere. Después de un imprevisto, mis planes cambiaron un poco, pero me alegra decir que fue para mejor. A veces la incertidumbre puede asustarme, pero esta experiencia de tener que modificar los planes sobre la marcha me enseñó que lo espontáneo puede salir mejor que lo esperado 😃.

While I was still doing my work-for-housing exchange in Cafayate, Salta province, I had taken it upon myself to look for my next exchange so that I could extend my trip. Looking for a place to do this volunteer work takes time and some planning, as sometimes you don't get it so easily, you have to send messages to all the hostels in the area asking if they work with volunteers and depending on the place you want to go, you have to travel a few kilometres to the new location. I always keep all that in mind so 10 days before the end of my volunteering in Salta I had found a new hostel in Humahuaca, Jujuy province.

Mientras aún estaba haciendo mi intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento en Cafayate, provincia de Salta, me había encargado de buscar mi siguiente intercambio para poder extender mi viaje. Buscar un cupo para hacer este trabajo voluntario requiere tiempo y cierta planificación, ya que a veces no se consigue tan fácilmente, hay que mandar mensajes a todos los hosteles de la zona preguntando si trabajan con voluntarios y dependiendo del lugar al que se quiere ir, se requiere movilizarse algunos kilómetros hasta la nueva ubicación. Yo siempre tengo en cuenta todo eso así que 10 días antes de que finalice mi voluntariado en Salta había encontrado un nuevo hostel en Humahuaca, provincia de Jujuy.

As I have been doing for more than a year, when the date came to start the new volunteering, I was prepared to travel the 430 km from Cafayate to Humahuaca. But while I was on my way, the owner of the hostel that was to receive me told me that the exchange would not be possible. For the first time I was cancelled for a volunteer exchange and just when I was already travelling to the new place, which brought me uncertainty and nerves, as well as anger for the lack of engagement of the owner 🙃.

Tal como vengo haciendo hace más de un año, cuando llegó la fecha para empezar el nuevo voluntariado, estaba preparada para viajar los más de 430 km que separaban Cafayate de Humahuaca. Pero mientras estaba en camino, la dueña del hostel que me iba a recibir me dijo que el intercambio no sería posible. Por primera vez me cancelaron un voluntariado y justo cuando yo ya estaba viajando para el nuevo lugar, lo que me trajo incertidumbre y nervios, además de enojo por la falta de compromiso de la dueña 🙃.

But as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, so that cancellation turned out to be a great opportunity for me. Luckily, a few days earlier I had met a guy in Cafayate with whom we spent a few days and we were able to meet again in Salta. He was heading north to Bolivia and after asking him if I could go with him, he agreed and we made a plan to travel together for the three weeks I was supposed to be in the new volunteering. As part of our route to my neighbouring country, on our third day travelling together we arrived in the town of Humahuaca 😃.

Pero como dice la frase, como no hay mal que por bien no venga, esa cancelación se volvió una gran oportunidad para mí. Por suerte, días atrás había conocido a un chico en Cafayate con el que paseamos unos días y nos pudimos volver a reunir en Salta. Él se dirigia al norte hacia Bolivia y después de preguntarle si podía ir con él, aceptó y armamos un plan para viajar juntos durante esas tres semanas en las que tendría que haber estado en el nuevo voluntariado. Como parte de nuestra ruta hacia mi país vecino, en nuestro tercer día viajando juntos llegamos al pueblo de Humahuaca 😃.

I had chosen the town of Humahuaca in Jujuy to do my work exchange for accommodation because it is very picturesque. This town is another tourist town to visit if you are travelling in the north of Argentina. I had already visited it for one day in 2022, but I was looking forward to having more time to visit it and that's why I was looking forward to a longer stay there. However, I was only able to visit it for one day in 2024, but this time I didn't renege on that because I was just passing through on my way to something much bigger, which was to get to know a country that was new to me. Besides, this time I was travelling as a holiday and not as a hostel worker, with good company and on a very interesting travel adventure. Much better than what I had planned for those days 💕.

Había elegido el pueblo de Humahuaca en Jujuy para hacer mi intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento porque es muy pintoresco. Este pueblo es otro de los turísticos para hacer si estas de viaje por el norte de Argentina. Yo ya lo había visitado un día en 2022, pero tenía ganas de tener más tiempo para recorrerlo y por eso estaba ilusionada con hacer una estadía un poco más larga ahí. Sin embargo, otra vez pude visitarlo solo un día en 2024, pero esta vez no renegué de eso porque solo estaba de paso hacia algo mucho más grande que era conocer un país nuevo para mí. Además, esta vez estaba viajando como de vacaciones y no como trabajadora de hostel, con buena compañía y en una aventura viajera muy interesante. Mucho mejor que lo que había planeado para esos días ❣️.

My real-universe self was glad that things had turned out this way, as my alternate-universe self would have had to be making beds in a hostel to "pay" for my accomodation. Now I was on a little holiday, traveling around like any of the young travellers I see all the time while volunteering in such establishments. I was also happy for my past self, who had been responsible enough to have money saved up to allow me to travel for three weeks as a guest. In the end, all the moves that led to me being there at that moment ended up being perfect timing, even the one that seemed terrible to me at first 😅.

Mi yo del universo real se alegró de que las cosas se hayan dado así, ya que mi yo del universo alterno tendría que haber estado armando camas en un hostel para poder solventar su estadía. Ahora estaba de pequeñas vacaciones, paseando como cualquiera de los jóvenes viajeros que veo todo el tiempo mientras hago mis voluntariados en ese tipo de establecimientos. También me alegré por mi yo del pasado, quién había sido lo suficientemente responsable como para tener dinero ahorrado que me permitiera viajar durante tres semanas como huésped. Al final, todos los movimientos que decantaron en que yo esté ahi en ese momento terminaron siendo en el timing perfecto, incluso aquel que me parecieró terrible al principio 😅.
