If there is one thing that characterised this whole stage of the journey, it was the perfect timing of things. Or maybe it was the vibes I attracted, which allowed me to keep walking further and further away. Despite being a person who likes to have everything more or less planned, I also like to make room for adventure and new experiences. And ‘doing it for the anecdote’ took me to a lot of new places. After coming to terms (a bit) with my thoughts, I decided to follow my feelings, which gave me the gift of a few beautiful days of sightseeing in Chile ❤️.

Si hay algo que caracterizó a toda esta etapa de viaje, fue el timing perfecto de las cosas. O quizás eran las vibras que atraía, que me permitieron seguir paseando cada vez más lejos. A pesar de ser una persona a la que le gusta tener todo masomenos planeado, también me gusta darle lugar a la aventura y a las nuevas experiencias. Y el "hacerlo por la anécdota" me llevó a un montón de lugares nuevos. Después de ponerme de acuerdo (un poco) con mis pensamientos, decidí seguir a mis sentimientos, los que me regalaron unos días hermosos de paseo en Chile ❤️.

This story is the third part of a gossip that started in the north of my country, precisely in Cafayate, Salta. Then, it spread to part of Bolivia and later on to Chilean Patagonia. Some blogs ago I had told you that I had met a Dutch guy during my voluntary work in Cafayate, with whom we first walked in the village and then went to the capital Salta for four days. That was the first time we said goodbye because I had to go back to work in Cafayate (and I cried). A week later, the next volunteering trip I was supposed to do in Jujuy was cancelled and we met again in Salta, which led to an improvised plan to travel together in his car in Bolivia for three weeks. There we had a second farewell because I had to go back to Ushuaia and he would continue on his way to Peru (and I cried again).

Esta historia es la tercera parte de un chisme que empezó en el norte de mi país, precisamente en Cafayate, Salta. Luego, se extendió hasta parte de Bolivia y posteriormente lo haría en la Patagonia Chilena. Algunos blogs atrás les había contado que había conocido a un chico holandés durante mi voluntariado en Cafayate, con quien primero paseamos en el pueblo y luego fuimos cuatro días a Salta capital. Ahí fue la primera vez que nos despedimos porque yo debía volver a trabajar a Cafayate (y lloré). Una semana después, el siguiente voluntariado que tenía que ir a hacer a Jujuy se canceló y nos vimos de nuevo en Salta, derivando todo en un plan improvisado de viajar juntos en su auto en Bolivia durante tres semanas. Ahí tuvimos una segunda despedida porque yo tenía que volver a Ushuaia y él seguiría su camino a Perú (y yo lloré de nuevo).

Two months had passed since our second farewell, during which time we kept in touch, but nothing too intense. I was calm in my new volunteer work in Ushuaia, when I received a message from him saying that he was on his way to Ushuaia, Argentina. When we had spoken the first few days we met, he told me that he had no plans to visit the end of the world, but that he was now going there, right where I was. He told me that if we could just see each other for a few more days in the city it would be fine, but that's when the idea that we could have a third trip together crept into my mind again.

Habían pasado dos meses desde nuestra segunda despedida, tiempo en el que mantuvimos contacto pero normal, tampoco nada tan intenso. Yo estaba tranquila en mi nuevo voluntariado en Ushuaia, cuando me llega un mensaje suyo diciendo que se encontraba camino a Ushuaia, Argentina. Cuando habíamos hablado los primeros días que nos conocimos, él me dijo que no tenía planes de conocer el fin del mundo, pero que ahora estaba yendo para ahí, justo donde yo estaba. Él me dijo que con vernos aunque sea unos días más en la ciudad estaría bien, pero ahí fue cuando otra vez se me metió la idea de que podíamos tener una tercera edición de viaje juntos.

His plan after Ushuaia was to travel through Chilean Patagonia to the city of Puerto Montt, where he would meet up with his father who was going on holiday. The whole journey would take about 15 or 20 days with his little Suzuki, making a relaxed trip with many stops in between. By the time he arrived in Ushuaia, such was the perfect timing that I had finished my temporary engineering job three days ago and had received my $670 payment, so I had some extra money. The other issue to solve was that I was volunteering in Ushuaia where I had a schedule to keep, but when I told the hostel owner about my plan, he didn't hesitate to encourage me to go to Chile because it would be an amazing trip. We agreed that when I finally arrived in Puerto Montt, Chile, I could take a bus to Bariloche, Argentina, and then a plane back to Ushuaia (because my original plan was to spend the whole summer there). And so it was friends how everything lined up perfectly and I was able to go on a roadtrip with M, the Dutchman, for the third time 😃.

Su plan después de Ushuaia era recorrer la Patagonia Chilena hasta la ciudad de Puerto Montt, en donde se encontraría con su padre que iría de vacaciones. Todo este recorrido tomaría unos 15 o 20 días aproximadamente con su pequeño Suzuki, haciendo un viaje relajado con muchas paradas intermedias. Para ese momento en el que él llegó a Ushuaia, tal fue el perfecto timing que yo había terminado mi trabajo temporal de ingeniera hacia tres días atrás y había recibido mi pago de $670, por lo que tenía algo de dinero extra. El otro asunto a resolver fue que yo estaba haciendo un voluntariado en Ushuaia en donde debía cumplir un horario, pero cuando le conté mi plan al dueño de hostel, él no dudó en animarme a ir a Chile porque sería un paseo increíble. Quedamos en que cuando finalmente llegara a Puerto Montt en Chile, podía tomar un bus hasta Bariloche en Argentina y de ahí un avión de regreso Ushuaia (porque mi plan original era pasar todo el verano ahí). Y así fue amigos como todo se alineó perfectamente y pude ir de roadtrip con M, el holandés, por tercera vez 😃.

Before embarking on the trip to Chile, there were two things worrying me. The first was that I needed dollars to get a better exchange rate in the neighboring country, and luckily that was resolved quickly because I was able to get them from the hostel owner. The second was my 20-day-later self, because I knew I was going to cry again, and this time it would be the hardest of all because it would last forever (because her trip to South America was almost over). I thought about it a lot and in the end, I decided to accept the drama because I didn't want to miss the trip. So, after M spent two nights in Ushuaia, we set off for Puerto Montt 😃.

Antes de emprender el viaje a Chile habían dos cosas que me preocupaban. La primera era que necesitaba dólares para poder obtener un mejor cambio en el país vecino, y eso por suerte se solucionó rápido porque pude conseguirlos con el dueño del hostel. La segunda cosa era mi yo de 20 días después, porque sabía que otra vez iba a llorar y esta vez sería la más difícil de todas porque sería para siempre (porque su viaje en Sudamérica ya estaba por terminarse). Lo pensé bastante y al final, decidí que aceptaría el drama porque no quería perderme el paseo. Así que después de que M pasara dos noches en Ushuaia, emprendimos el viaje rumbo a Puerto Montt 😃.

In total, this trip lasted 17 days from December 3rd to 20th, during which we traveled over 2,000 km from the south to the north, including ferries and car rides. During those days, we visited different towns and cities, stayed in hotels, hostels, and even camped. It was my first time in Chile and the second time I'd taken such a long trip to another country (the first was in Bolivia, also with him). We had a ton of anecdotes and fun moments: even though we didn't see each other until two months later, traveling together again felt like all that time hadn't happened in between. We made a great travel team; it was like traveling with a lifelong friend 😃.

En total, este viaje duró 17 días desde el 3 hasta el 20 de diciembre, en los que recorrimos más de 2000 km en dirección sur a norte, incluídos ferrys y viajes en el autito. En todos esos días visitamos distintos pueblos y ciudades, nos quedamos en hoteles, hosteles y también acampamos. Fue mi primera vez en Chile y la segunda vez que hacía un viaje tan largo a otro país (el primero fue en Bolivia y también fue con él). Tuvimos un montón de anécdotas y momentos divertidos: a pesar de que nos vimos después de dos meses, estar viajando juntos otra vez se sintió como si no hubiese pasado todo ese tiempo en el medio. Hicimos buen equipo de viaje, todo era como estar viajando con un buen amigo de toda la vida 😃.

On our first day of travel, we left Ushuaia in the morning to head to Porvenir, the first Chilean city we would see. It was a very long day, traveling along National Route 3, passing through Tolhuín and Río Grande, until finally crossing into Chile via the San Sebastián Pass. It was about 440 kilometers to a place where we had no accommodation and it was late, but once there, we quickly found a cabin for only $30 a night. But it wasn't just any cabin; it was the cabin of a Christmas fanatic. This made our stay even happier. The next day, a ferry awaited us to cross the Strait of Magellan to Punta Arenas.

En nuestro primer día de paseo, dejamos Ushuaia por la mañana para ir hasta Porvenir, la primera ciudad chilena que veriamos. Fue un día larguísimo, en donde recorrimos la Ruta Nacional 3 pasando por Tolhuin y Río Grande, hasta finalmente cruzar a Chile por el paso San Sebastián. Fueron unos 440 kilómetros hacia un lugar en donde no teníamos alojamiento y al que llegamos muy tarde, pero que una vez ahí encontramos rápidamente por solo $30 la noche en una cabaña. Pero no era cualquier cabaña, era la cabaña de una fanática de la navidad. Esto nos alegró aún más la estadía. Al día siguiente, nos esperaba un ferry para cruzar el estrecho de Magallanes hasta Punta Arenas.

Among my initial issues with dollars and emotions, I forgot to add the fact that Chile has a different type of plug. I wasn't going to be able to get another one until we reached a larger city, so the first few days we had to carefully plan how to charge our phones with only M's charger. I liked that little mishap, because it made me realize that once again I could be traveling internationally. Everything synced up perfectly ❤️.

Dentro de mis problemas iniciales con los dólares y los sentimientos, me olvidé de agregar el problema de que en Chile tienen otro tipo de enchufes. No iba a poder conseguir otro hasta que llegaramos a una ciudad más grande, así que los primeros días tuvimos que planificar bien como cargar nuestros celulares solo con el cargador de M. Hasta ese contratiempo tonto me gustaba, porque me hacía dar cuenta de que una vez más podía estar teniendo un viaje internacional. Todo se sincronizó perfectamente ❤️.

As always, I'm way behind on my content, and it's already been four months since this trip (time really flies). As for M, he's back home in Germany, and I'm back home in Buenos Aires. We keep in touch a bit via social media, and we both cherish fond memories of this trip. If you're wondering if I cried at the end of our final goodbyes, of course I did, a lot. But I had more fun getting to know a new country, so that made it all worthwhile. These are the anecdotes I like to share now, and if they had been planned in more detail, they probably wouldn't have been as great as they were ❤️.

Como siempre estoy muy atrasada con mi contenido y ya han pasado cuatro meses de este viaje (el tiempo pasa muy rápido en verdad). Respecto a M, él ya está de nuevo en su casa en Alemania y yo estoy de nuevo en mi casa en Buenos Aires. Seguimos un poco en contacto via redes sociales y ambos nos quedamos con los buenos recuerdos de este viaje. Si se preguntan si al final lloré en nuestra última despedida, por supuesto que sí, y mucho. Pero más fue lo que me divertí conociendo un país nuevo, así que eso hizo que valiera la pena. Estas son las anécdotas que me gusta tener ahora, que seguramente si hubiesen sido planeadas con más detalle, no hubiesen sido tan geniales como lo fueron ❤️.
