While I was on my impromptu trip to Bolivia, it was exciting to see how we were getting further and further away on the map. I had never been this far into another country before, so I was happy about it all. I wanted to make the most of the experience, so I didn't mind the fact that at some point I would have to return from a far distance. Until that day came and when I finally checked, I was over 2300 km away from Buenos Aires 😅.

Mientras estaba en mi viaje improvisado a Bolivia, era emocionante ver como nos íbamos alejando cada vez más y más en el mapa. Yo nunca había ido tan lejos dentro de otro país, así que estaba contenta por todo eso. Quería aprovechar al máximo la experiencia, así que no me importó el hecho de que en algún momento tendría que volver desde una distancia lejana. Hasta que ese día llegó y cuando finalmente revisé, estaba a más de 2300 km de Buenos Aires 😅.

While the road trip Guest M and I took didn't have a set route, it did have a deadline because I had to return to Buenos Aires to catch my flight to Ushuaia. Researching where we could stop so I could return home and he could continue on to Peru, we found the most convenient place to go was Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Of course, I first checked the prices of flights, but after learning that for such a close date they cost more than $400, I ruled that out. Luckily, there were also long-distance buses to Argentina that departed from there, which, according to the online booking, cost $150. They were still expensive, but at least not as expensive as the plane ticket 😅.

Si bien el roadtrip que Huésped M y yo hicimos no tenía una ruta definida, sí tenía una fecha limite de finalización porque yo tenía que volver a Buenos Aires a tomar mi vuelo a Ushuaia. Investigando en dónde podíamos detener el viaje para que yo pudiera volver a casa y él continuara su rumbo a Perú, encontramos que el lugar más conveniente era Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Por supuesto que primero me fijé qué precios tenían los vuelos, pero después de saber que para una fecha tan cercana costaban más de $400, descarté la opción. Para mi suerte, de ahí también partían unos buses larga distancia hasta Argentina, que según la compra online costaban $150. Seguían siendo costosos, pero al menos no tanto como el boleto de avión 😅.

Just before making the online purchase, I had the idea of ​​going to the terminal in person to try to buy the ticket with cash in Bolivian pesos. Since foreign purchases are heavily taxed for us Argentinians, I thought paying in cash would be more convenient. And luckily it was: at the bus company ticket window, I found that the ticket to Buenos Aires cost only 400 Bolivian pesos, about $60. This was less than half the price I had planned to pay, so you can imagine how happy I was 😃.

Justo antes de hacer la compra online, se me ocurrió la idea de ir personalmente a la terminal a intentar comprar el pasaje con dinero boliviano en efectivo. Como las compras extranjeras tienen muchos impuestos para nosotros argentinos, pensé que la opción de pago en efectivo sería más conveniente. Y por suerte lo fue: en la ventanilla de la empresa de buses, me encontré con que el pasaje hasta Buenos Aires costaba solo 400 pesos bolivanos, unos $60. Esto era menos de la mitad del precio que yo tenía pensado pagar, así que se imaginarán la felicidad que me dió 😃.

The thing was, from Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Buenos Aires were 2,350 km: this trip started on Thursday at 7 PM and ended on Saturday at 1 PM, a total of 42 long hours of travel. It sounded like a lot when I read it, but once I did, it wasn't so much because I had all my meals provided (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), the seat was as comfortable as a bed, and I had room to charge my phone, so I could watch TV shows throughout the trip. And all of that for only $60—not bad at all 😃.

El asunto era que desde Santa Cruz de la Sierra hasta Buenos Aires habían 2350 km: este viaje empezaba el jueves a las 7 PM y terminaba el sábado a la 1 PM, en total 42 largas horas de viaje. Sonaba a muchísimo cuando lo leí, pero una vez que lo hice, no fue tanto porque me dieron todas las comidas (desayuno, almuerzo y cena), el asiento era cómodo como una cama y tenía para cargar mi celular, por lo que pude ver series en todo el trayecto. Y todo eso solo por $60, no estuvo nada mal 😃.

One of the things I was afraid of about returning to Argentina alone was crossing the border, but at that moment, everyone on the bus got off together and went through the procedures without a problem. During those 42 hours, we only got off for border procedures and three times to go to gas stations. The rest of the time, I lay there looking at my phone, processing how wonderful everything was, including my travel romance. Of course, I cried many times during that entire trip, thinking about never seeing Guest M again, but at least I took comfort in the fact that we had experienced everything we did together. I already knew I was going to go home crying; I'm very sentimental, but even that's a beautiful part of this whole story 😅.

Una de las cosas que me daba miedo de tener que volver sola a Argentina era la parte de tener que pasar por la frontera, pero en ese momento, todos los pasajeros del bus bajamos juntos e hicimos los trámites sin problemas. Durante esas 42 horas solo bajamos para los trámites fronterizos y 3 veces para ir a estaciones de servicio: el resto del tiempo estuve acostada mirando mi celular y procesando lo lindo que había todo con mi romance de viaje incluido. Por supuesto lloré muchas veces en todo ese trayecto pensando en que nunca más volvería a ver a Huésped M, pero al menos me consolaba el hecho de haber vivido todo lo que hicimos juntos. Yo ya sabía que iba a volver a mi casa llorando, soy muy sentimental, pero hasta eso es una parte linda de toda esta anécdota 😃.

If everything had gone according to plan, I was supposed to arrive in Buenos Aires at 1 PM on Saturday, have a layover at my sister's house downtown, and then take the flight to Ushuaia at 1 PM on Sunday. BUT, of course, that didn't happen. My flight was canceled a total of THREE times for no apparent reason (it seemed like a joke). This delayed my trip to Ushuaia by a week, but I was able to see my family and friends during that time. Catching up with everyone wasn't so bad either. I hadn't seen them since July, and it was already October, so I think they missed me a little 😅.

Si todo hubiese salido de acuerdo al plan, yo tendría que haber llegado a Buenos Aires el sábado a la 1 PM, hacer escala en la casa de mi hermana en el centro y el domigo a la 1 PM tomar el vuelo a Ushuaia PERO, por supuesto no sucedió. Sin motivos, me cancelaron el vuelo por un total de TRES veces (parecía chiste). Esto retrasó una semana mi ida a Ushuaia, pero en ese tiempo pude aprovechar para ver a mi familia y a mis amigas: ponerme al día con todos tampoco estuvo tan mal. No los veía desde julio y ya era octubre, así que creo que un poquito me extrañaban 😅.

While I'm away, I also miss my cat a lot. Her name is Agatha, and she has a rather aloof personality with other cats but is very affectionate with me. I wonder what goes through her mind every time I'm gone for so long, because when she sees me coming, she looks at me as if she's scared, until she approaches, recognizes me, and won't let go. I suppose she's gotten used to having a traveling mom, and I hope so, because when I see her again, there's always the kisses and hugs ❤️.

Mientras estoy de viaje también extraño mucho a mi gata. Su nombre es Agatha, y tiene una personalidad bastante arisca con otros gatos pero muy cariñosa conmigo. Me pregunto que pasará por su mente cada vez que me voy tanto tiempo, porque cuando me ve llegar me mira como asustada, hasta que se acerca, me reconoce y no se me despega. Supongo que se habrá acostumbrado a tener una mamá viajera y eso espero, porque cuando vuelvo a verla nunca faltan los besos y abrazos ❤️.

My stay in Bolivia was something I didn't expect, but for which I will always be grateful. Everything turned into a great experience from start to finish, from which I took away a ton of good memories. That trip was perfect for me, to expand my horizons and learn a little more about the culture of my neighboring country. Even the return to Argentina was long but memorable, and the reunion with my loved ones was equally emotional. I like traveling far, but I also like returning to all these reunions: they are always filled with so much emotion ❤️.

Mi estancia en Bolivia fue algo con lo que no contaba, pero que siempre voy a agradecer. Todo se transformó en una gran experiencia de principio a fin, de donde me llevé un montón de recuerdos buenos. Ese viaje fue perfecto para mí, para expandir mis horizontes y para conocer un poco más sobre la cultura de mi país vecino. Incluso la vuelta a Argentina fue larga pero memorable, y el reencuentro con mis seres queridos fue igual de emotivo. Me gusta viajar lejos, pero también me gusta volver a todos estos reencuentros: siempre están llenos de mucha emoción ❤️.
