Self confidence and Self esteem; Great Virtues

in Hive Reachout2 days ago

There is one great lesson I learned from Dad, he told me, “The greatest encouragement one can have in this life is self confidence, believing you can do everything to create pathways for solutions”.
Since then, I've always faced my challenges with greater assurance of having a bright light at the tunnel end.

Self confidence and self esteem are in some way related to two different concepts. One can have a high self esteem but a very poor self confidence and vice versa. One thing I normally do is use my life stories to make certain discussions easy to flow with.
I will love to share two different scenarios where I've exhibited high self confidence and high self esteem.

Let's go with self esteem first!
Self esteem simply means how much you carry and value yourself. That feeling of being quality in what you do and your general life is termed self esteem. Self esteem could be low or high, meaning one can value or devalue himself as he relates with others in the society.

Self confidence is one virtue that's very important for great and better relationships with others in the community. It's simply your belief in yourself and personal abilities. There's always this confusion that arises when we discuss self confidence and over confidence. Overconfidence is unhealthy while self confidence is healthy for human relationships. An over confident person will never want to listen to others' contributions to solve a need and it's very unhealthy.

Self confidence and self esteem can change on different occasions. Now I'll bring in my life story.
During my days in high school, I was a renowned athlete in my class. I had this friend and competitor, Solomon. Solomon was also a great athlete like me.
We are good friends but we were always against each other when it comes to athletic activities (sprints and relays). Solomon belonged to the Orange House while I belonged to the Green House. During school competitions, I often represented my house ( Green House) while Solomon represented his(Orange House), so we were always competing against each other.

We both had a healthy amount of self esteem. We knew we were valued by everyone in school as best athletes and that alone made us attach some values to ourselves. We knew and believed we had value for ourselves and for the school, so we never allowed anyone's behavior to cut down our self esteem.

We were confident in ourselves. We believed in our abilities as good athletes and that made us always win in turns. Sometimes I win and sometimes Solomon wins as well. In believing in our abilities, we often thrived never to let any other sprinter come between us. We knew and believed that we were always the first or second place in every race and that made us stars.
But guess what, Solomon once displayed over confidence and that ended bad for him.
One day, we had multiple races and after the first 100 meters race, we were told to have some rest and we were given glucose. Everyone got glucose but Solomon didn't, he felt he was better than us and needed no glucose. He was confident of his abilities but that was a perfect instance of over confidence when he didn't want to listen to the Athletes Care Team.
During the relay, he got tired along the way and fell behind everyone.

Due to his late pass of the baton to his teammates, his team came fourth place.
It's a nice thing to have a healthy amount of self esteem and self confidence, one can always socialize and participate in what he enjoys doing, but with overconfidence, things go wrong.

Thanks for stopping by friends.
