Block Up: My Journey Through Blockchain Basics and Beyond

in Hive Reachout3 days ago

Hello Hive!

If you’ve ever wondered what blockchain technology really is, let me take you along on my experience at the Block Upproject! It’s a 3 day program organized by students for students, and it’s all about learning the concepts of crypto, blockchain and Web3 technology. Attending the Block Up project has been such an exciting and informative experience!! As someone who’s still exploring and learning about blockchain technology, this project offered a fantastic opportunity to learn the basics and learn from industry experts :). Over those three days, I learned so much about it and now I’m bringing it all to you :)! Here’s a breakdown of my experience:

Day 1: Blockchain and Web3 Basics

The first day was all about the foundation; what is blockchain technology, and how does it work? We started with an introduction to blockchains and Web3, focusing on how blocks of data are stored, verified, and connected to form a secure chain. The lecturer explained everything clearly, making it easy to follow even for a beginner like me.

Next, we talked about cryptocurrencies, tokens, and dApps. This part really took my interest because of how versatile blockchain technology is. And when the lecturer asked if anyone knew examples of Web3 blockchains or dApps, I took my chance to promote Hive! I shared how Hive is a blockchain filled with useful dApps, games, and tools, and some people even said they’d check it out or buy Hive tokens. That was such a proud moment for me🤣!

We also covered NFTs, which, while interesting, aren’t something I’m too into.. yet? The day wrapped up with a segment on blockchain technology in supply chain management. While this part was more specific to certain industries and less relevant to me (because I study law), I still found it fascinating to see how blockchain can improve efficiency in ways I hadn’t ever considered.

Day 2: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Legal Frameworks

The second day took things a step further with a focus on Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs). The lecturer explained how DLTs allow for secure and transparent transactions, providing a solution to the digital world’s lack of scarcity.

We went deep into the Bitcoin, from its smallest denomination (Satoshis) to its 21 million maximum supply cap. I finally understood concepts like PoW, PoS, and PoA concepts I’d always found confusing until now.

The lecturer also shared the fascinating story of Bitcoin’s creation by Satoshi Nakamoto and the early days of cypherpunks. There’s a really cool Netflix documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, which was extremely interesting and informative :).

The session moved on to Ethereum, exploring topics like block sizes, gas fees, and its many applications. It was so interesting and beginner friendly, which I appreciated so much🤣. There was also a discussion about Web1.0, Web2.0, and Web3, giving me another chance to highlight Hive’s ecosystem and all its amazing opportunities.

Later, we had a second lecture by a wonderful woman whose name I forgot from “Alice in Blockchain,” who focused on the legal side of cryptocurrency trading in Croatia. This was one of my favorite parts because it gave me valuable insights into how the law interacts with crypto. I left the lecture with a few questions, but overall, it was fascinating to understand the legal framework better.

Final Thoughts

These two days were such an eye opening experiences. While the third day didn’t live up to my expectations because the guy just came to promote his business and an interview with a world known paper, the knowledge and inspiration I gained from the first two days made up for it.

I’m now seriously considering organizing a similar project at my university, with a focus on explaining blockchain’s legal aspects and, of course, promoting Hive!

If you’d like to help me with this or have any ideas to share, drop a comment, and I’ll get in touch. Let’s make blockchain knowledge accessible to everyone!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Thank you for upvoting, reblogging & commenting. It is greatly appreciated :)❤️!
