Growing up in an environment where there are many people that constitute neighbors in my areas hence my parents normally demonstrate practical love to them which involves sharing and checking on one another. The profound thing I discovered was in the area of sharing things no matter how little it might be in the area of food and drinks. Similar thing is replicated during Salah and other celebrations. It's become like a culture and norm of the environment to give out food and expect same gesture subsequent year.
Aside the sharing of food and drinks, many people go to an extend of inconveniencing themselves by buying clothes and essentials for their children. This is mostly practice in the Northern region of Nigeria. That day of Christmas, everywhere will be glittering. Some parents that are incapacitated to provide for their wards go to an extend of putting themselves into deep pressure and if care is not taken results to heart ache and other dangerous health related issues.
That has been the annual ugly experience. In my reflection moment, I asked myself for how long would this kind of thing continue? Now that I am a family man, I need to change the narrative and allow what I feel is best to flow.
The best or favorite experience I could ever ranked the best or favorite Christmas experience was just few years ago where my wife and I decided to curb expenses all in the name of celebrating Christmas. What good would it do us after such a huge time of celebration you now face the subsequent week which is resumption in debts??? This is not a testimony that one would like to hear at all.
This year's Christmas happened to be one of the very best that my wife and I were able to control virtually all the situation especially in the area of cooking and sharing food to neighborhood. That day was calm and after we returned from church we had good moment of reflection and began to strategize how to cover up areas of weaknesses.
Making this kind of strange and unusual decision cost us lots of things.
Christmas is a season where people need to feel the impact of any kind message we proclaim that our savior Jesus is born and is the king born. Remembering this day often create fresh memories. Love is the perfect language that communicates good tidings to people. Within these periods we were able to reach out to few families based on our financial capacity with provision of some bathing soap, detergent, mosquito coils, few used clothes etc. when they saw it, an elder statesman was short of words because everything surprised him. He was truly amazed. This capture most of the communards and others within such environment.
