Greetings friends lovers of architectural beauty! Today I would like to share with you one of those antique pieces that are so important in my city, it is the Central Hospital of San Cristobal, capital of Tachira state in Venezuela. Come with me on a tour of this place.

This building has accompanied the inhabitants of my city since 1957. Four generations of my family have been treated in this public health institution.

It is sad to have to visit the Central Hospital when someone in the family is in poor health, like this time when I went to visit my uncle who was hit by a motorcycle while doing his morning exercises.

As I walked through the corridors, I remembered when my aunt was admitted in 2007 and we had to take turns taking care of her. When she would send me to sneak her coffee candy, when I would help her walk around the room to exercise. Those were difficult days until she finally passed away.

How many stories do these walls hold?

The building originally had 10 floors, on which the hospital wards are distributed. At the front is the emergency unit and ample parking for ambulances.

Many of the areas have been refurbished several times, such as the pediatric ward which was originally on the 10th floor and is now on the 9th floor, while other wards are completely new constructions, such as the ophthalmology unit which is located behind the main building.

The whole building is L-shaped and it is said that it was built with labor that during the dictatorship of Marcos Perez Jimenez was taken from the prisons, thus hospitals and schools were built and are still in perfect condition.

Walking around the hospital, I found a playground, some murals referring to the medical area, benches to wait for medical appointments, a newly opened pharmacy, cafes, kiosks for photocopying and printing, cab lines, green areas, a banking institution and parking. It seems they thought of everything.

This hospital, in spite of the economic difficulties the country is going through, continues to be the most important in the area, not only for Venezuelans but also for some Colombians who are treated here because of the proximity to the border.

The essence of the original design of the Central Hospital is maintained in spite of the remodeling that has been done.

The large windows of the rooms are wide, so that patients are kept cool. The stairs are located as the backbone of the building, in the center, with a stainless steel handrail and windows all the way up the 10 floors.

I enjoyed photographing the entire tour of the hospital. I hope you like my review of this emblematic building of my city. See you next time. Bye!

Beautiful Hi! Of course you are, I know you are from this land. I have to invite you for a coffee to get to know each other 😉. It is pending 😊.
It is still a hospital center of great importance, despite how difficult everything is, I could see that a lot of people are treated here. That reassures me a bit.

Thank you for stopping by and supporting my publication. A big hug from a fellow countryman😘💜

For a state hospital, it preserves its structure well, it looks very large

It is... It is one of the most important in the region. Today it is not 100% operational but they try to maintain it as well as possible.
