"My personal office space". Architecture+Design Community Contest

in Architecture+Design3 years ago (edited)

Greetings to the entire Architecture+Design Community. I join the contest "My personal office space". Indeed, the covid-19 health emergency has not forced to work from home. This has been positive in that we have dedicated more time to the house, adapting it better and better to our needs.

In my opinion the main ingredient for your personal office should be "comfort", and to the extent that you feel more comfortable you will surely be more productive in your ideas and results.

I present to you my favorite personal office places:

1. My real personal office place

Source: Own

My personal office space I currently have in the living room. Before I go into details of the devices I use I start with describing the space.

- Size: It is a moderate sized space, neither big nor small, but comfortable; it is next to the living room sofa, to rest for a while.

- Colors: The walls are painted in light yellow with salmon, which inspire warmth and activity.

- Lighting: There is a lamp just above and another about 3 meters to the right; also sunlight enters through a window, which gives a touch of harmony to the space.

- Temperature: I try to maintain a pleasant temperature (21°C), with the help of natural air circulation during the day and the use of air conditioning at night. I do this in this way, to avoid recycling viruses in the air conditioning system, and more so nowadays with the covid-19 situation.

- Equipment: Desktop computer, multifunctional printer, desk phone, modem, router.

- Furniture: Desk elaborated in mdf, wood color, that combines with the space, presents regular conditions. It also has a chair, although it is not special for office use.

- Accessories: Ergonomic mouse pad, to avoid damage to the carpal tunnel of the hand, mouse, keyboard, speakers, power strip, external hard drive.

- Services: Electricity and internet.

2. Taking the office to the garden

Although in my house I don't have green areas, taking the office to the garden has become more common than it seems, and this is because the pandemic has generated a sense of confinement that somehow people need to get some air and connect with nature.

Other reasons to go to the garden is when we receive visitors in the house, which should not be received in times of pandemic, but when there is no remedy, a solution is to talk to these people outside the house, of course keeping the mask and the minimum isolation of 1.5 meters.

The characteristics and elements of the space are as follows:.

- Size: The available size will be the closest garden area you have with electricity and internet services; preferably with shade to protect you as much as possible from the sun.

- Colors: The colors will be those of nature, the green areas, the blue sky, the colors of the birds, the colors of the perimeter walls of the house.

- Lighting: Solar energy will be the power source; so the work in this area, preferably perform it during the day.

- Temperature: The temperature will be ambient, but you can help yourself with a fan. If it is too hot or too cold the conditions are not given to use this site.

- Equipment: Laptop

- Furniture: Garden table or laptop table, chair. I do not recommend sitting on the grass or on the floor, because it makes the position uncomfortable.

- Accessories: Headphones to maximize the sound.

- Services: Electricity and internet. If you do not have a power outlet near the place where you will be, use your laptop 100% charged, to extend the time of use, or find an extension cord to connect.

- Others: Cushion to help your back position, umbrella to protect you from the sun. Remember to wear sunscreen and bring fresh water so you don't get dehydrated.

There are options for all tastes...

Literally it will also be possible to take the office to the garden, building a special annex, giving it that rustic, natural touch, with glass doors to not lose the visual with the garden and a place where you can be quiet, comfortable and protected from the sun and rain.

The provision of services would be the strongest thing to realize, I would add a decorative walkway leading up to the house. It occurs to me that you could also build offices of this type to rent out.

3. Take the office to the balcony

It has been observed that after the coronavirus pandemic, people have rescued balconies and rooftops, places that were previously rarely used.

Undoubtedly, the psychological component is present; by virtue of the restrictive measures taken by the State to protect people at home and limit them to go out to the streets, has caused the inhabitants to feel the need to make use of balconies to connect with the outside world.

The features and elements of the space are as follows:

- Size: The size of balconies is usually narrow but sufficient to install a personal office space.

- Colors: The ideal is to paint the balcony in pleasant colors and add plants to connect with nature.

- Lighting: The lighting is natural during the day and can be artificial at night.

- Temperature: The temperature is ambient, so it is essential that the temperature ranges are pleasant to users of the balcony, although these areas can also be closed with glass and install air conditioning, all according to the taste of each person.

- Equipment: Portable, fan.

- Furniture: Table, chair.

- Accessories: Headphones to maximize the sound.

- Services: Electricity and internet. If you do not have a power outlet nearby, use your laptop 100% charged, to extend the time of use, or find an extension cord to connect.

- Others: Cushion to help back position and a small water fountain can be installed to relax with the sound of water.

Curiosities

  • Regardless of your personal office space, remember to disinfect all surfaces frequently. The coronavirus lasts 2 days alive in wood, and usually our furniture is made of wood; hence the importance of keeping it disinfected. Other materials that keep the virus latent for 2 or 3 days are plastic (very common in devices and equipment in our office space), stainless steel and ceramic materials, also widely used at home.

  • On the other hand, according to study conducted by "The New England Journal of Medicine", copper is a material that does not keep alive the coronavirus for a long time (maximum 4 hours), so it is being analyzed to incorporate continuous copper surfaces indoors, in fact a Hospital in Chile, has copper furniture to reduce infections, according to information provided by Obras por Expansión.

Garden workplace is the coolest Idea. Great post, keep posting!

Thank you so much @sahina-rana. I'm so glad you thought it was great.

Great post! My office space comprises of my table which is filled with stationery. I love to collect pens of different colors that's why, they are all over the place. I would love to buy some things to organize my stuff. I too, sometimes, go outside and have my office stuff there. It is relaxing to work while surrounded by nature. :)

Hello @reewritesthings thank you very much for commenting on my post. The colorful pens give a youthful and fresh touch to your personal office space. Hopefully you can buy some drawers or some furniture that can help you organize your things, it would be the best to have more space available and facilitate the cleaning of the place.

Great post @darwinperez, I might actually take your advice. I just moved house recently and have no work area. I have always used the dining table as my work desk but with the current move, there's a possibility to work in the covered patio facing a small garden.

I am living in a tropical country so it gets to about 35 degrees Celsius here during the day and goes down to 25 degrees Celsius in the evening. I might face a few mosquitoes and a bit of heat in the afternoon but that's okay. What's the hottest temperature there during the day?

Hello @discoveringarni. Your country has a similar temperature range to mine (Venezuela) Here the maximum temperatures range between 35 and 36°C almost all year round and the minimum 22°C only at night or in the early morning. The hottest hours are from 11 am to 4 pm.

In the case you present to me, about locating your office space in front of your garden, I think it is great that you have a roof cover, as this favors the concentration of air currents.

On the other hand, the mosquito nuisance could be reduced by using a repellent product or electric devices such as mosquito killer lamps.
