This is a center that is dedicated to the programming of cultural activities in terms of visual arts, music workshops, theater, dance, literature and many others, most of these activities are dedicated to youth and young adults who are also the protagonists of annual events of music, game center, etc...

Long before this building was used as an activity and recreation center, it was used as an asylum for homeless people, that is to say, beggars, it was also used to house invalids, all this because at that time it was forbidden to beg in the streets.

The building was built in 1732, but it was remodeled throughout the years, until it became the cultural center inaugurated in 1980.

The building has been remodeled three times, mentioning that in its beginnings it was intended for use as a convent for monks and was built in a neoclassical style by architects Juan Krauss, Juan Wolf, Andrés Blanqui and Juan Buschiazzo. The first two designed what would be the first plans and the main façade is attributed to Andrés Blanqui, as well as the interior spaces.

After this took place the second part being remodeled and used as a shelter for beggars and invalids, being in charge of its restructuring the architect Juan Buschiazzo by the end of 1800, introducing a neo-Gothic style chapel on the terrace of the building.

Subsequently there is what would be the last remodeling or restructuring to enter what we have today, conditioning the building for an activity center having the work as an architect the Italian Florindo Testa, who took care to focus on a change for the functionality of this building.

Today we have a nationally recognized cultural center, declared a national historic monument and visited by all Argentines, residents and tourists. Many activities take place both inside and on the terrace where the aforementioned neogothic chapel is located.

Inside the building there are several exhibition rooms for visual arts, paintings, as well as music activities and sales of items in stands, but it was impossible to access these rooms due to prior appointment issues.

On the ground floor there are also musical and informative activities for the whole family as well as a small bar with restaurant style tables. This was the tour of the Recoleta Cultural Center and I wanted to share it with all of you, greetings from Buenos Aires. Have a nice start of the week ☀️

Beautiful building. It's sad that there are so many places to see and not enough time to see them.

The reuse of this building over the years reminds me both of our mortality as well as the fragility of today.

Forgive me my melancholy comments. I am grateful to have seen this place today...

Thanks for your post!

Cheers!

Wow. Astonishing pictures.

Beautiful building I must admit
