Hoy os traigo una de las actuales reformillas que estoy realizando en casa.
Today I bring you one of the current renovations I am doing at home.
La restauración de mi puerta de entrada al jardín.
The restoration of my front door to the garden.
Ya hace más de 15 años que la compramos y pusieron en casa y de los años transcurridos más el sol, el acabado que tenía, se ha deteriorado muchísimo.
It's been more than 15 years since we bought it and put it in the house and the years passed plus the sun, the finish it had, has deteriorated a lot.

En este momento teníamos dos opciones:
Cambiar la puerta por otra nueva del acabado elegido o pasar a hacer la rehabilitación de la misma.
At this point we had two options:
Change the door for a new one with the chosen finish or go on to refurbish it.

Lo primero que hice fue hacer fotografías de la puerta para ir a la tienda de pinturas y que me aconsejaran en el establecimiento los profesionales.
The first thing I did was to take photographs of the door so that I could go to the paint shop and get advice from the professionals in the establishment.

Al llegar con las capturas, el experto me aconsejó pintarla de color negro o de un acabado sólido para que no me diera trabajo a al hora de pintar y que según él, era su mejor opción.

Yo que soy algo obstinada, salí con la mejor de mis sonrisas pero me fui pasando tienda por tienda hasta que alguien me diera otra opción que fuera más de mi gusto y es que yo quería que el acabado quedara, lo más parecido a lo que antes había sido.

Eliminar el tono gris verdoso que ahora tenía por el color efecto madera que tanto me gustaba en la cancela de la casa.
When I arrived with the pictures, the expert advised me to paint it black or with a solid finish so that I wouldn't have to work at the time of painting, which according to him, was his best option.

I, being somewhat stubborn, went out with the best of my smiles but I went from shop to shop until someone gave me another option that was more to my taste and I wanted the finish to be as close as possible to what it had been before.

I wanted to eliminate the grey-greenish tone that I now had for the wood effect colour that I liked so much in the gate of the house.

Y este ha sido mi elección. Color Embero 2807.
Es verdad que el profesional de la tienda de pinturas me ha comentado que tengo que pintar las lamas de una sola vez, tratando que quede lo más uniforme posible, puesto que esta pintura es bastante densa y se quedan reflejos dorados en capas superpuestas.

Mi elección fue esta porque he pensado, si a unas malas el acabado efecto madera no es de mi gusto, siempre estoy a tiempo de comprar otra puerta o de poner un color uniforme posteriormente.

Pues me fui de allí con pinceles, brochas, disolvente y mi bote de pintura.

Desmontamos la puerta del marco y la colocamos apoyada a una mesa antigua que teníamos cubierta de macetas y ahora ha pasado a ser, el rincón del bricolaje de exterior. 😅

And this has been my choice. Embero 2807 colour.
It is true that the professional at the paint shop told me that I have to paint the slats all at once, trying to make it as uniform as possible, as this paint is quite dense and there are golden reflections in superimposed layers.

My choice was this one because I thought, if the wood effect finish is not to my taste, I can always buy another door or put a uniform colour afterwards.

So I left there with brushes, paintbrushes, paint thinner and my can of paint.

We took the door off the frame and placed it on an old table that we had covered with flowerpots and now it has become the outdoor DIY corner. 😅

Y este ha sido el paso a paso de la restauración de mi puerta de jardín:

Antes y después.
**Before and after **

Paso 1/ Step:
Limpiar bien la puerta para que no quede ninguna suciedad y que cuando la pintemos quede a perpetuidad. 😂

Clean the door well so that no dirt remains and that when we paint it it will remain in perpetuity.

Paso 2/Step:
Dejamos que seque a la luz del sol y empezamos a cubrir las piezas o herrajes que no queremos pintar. De este modo, evitamos que por descuido se manchen y queden mal.
Let it dry in the sunlight and start covering the parts or fittings that you do not want to paint. In this way, we avoid carelessly staining them and making them look bad.
-En el caso de mi puerta, tiene piezas en color negro satinado y he comprado también el negro para pintar las piezas y dejar la puerta como nueva.
-In the case of my door, it has satin black pieces and I have also bought black to paint the pieces and leave the door as good as new.

Paso 3/Step:
Pasamos a ir pintando las lamas una a una de modo que vayan quedando efecto barnizado pero de una pasada.
La pintura que he comprado es una barniz al aceite de modo que como la puerta tiene un acabado de vetas efecto madera , con este barniz , mi intención es que el efecto quede lo más parecido posible.
Quitar el gris verde que tiene por la decoloración y que recobre el acabado marrón dorado.
We go on to paint the slats one by one so that they are varnished effect but in one pass.
The paint I have bought is an oil varnish so that as the door has a wood grain finish, with this varnish, my intention is that the effect is as similar as possible.
To remove the grey-green that it has from discolouration and to bring back the golden brown finish.

Paso 4/Step:
Una lámina y después otra, de forma que si parar y después sigues, siempre dejas el trabajo de la cada una terminada.
One sheet and then another, so that if you stop and then continue, you always leave the work of each one finished.
Y este ha sido el resultado tras pintar el efecto madera y retocar con una capara muy fina, los herrajes en color negro.
And this has been the result after painting the wood effect and retouching with a very thin layer, the black fittings.

Yo estoy muy contenta con el resultado y si en un año o dos se queda más fea, siempre estoy a tiempo de pasar a dejar de un solo color antes de cambiar por otra. 😉

La verdad es que hacer un trabajo de bricolaje es algo que me gusta y me entretiene, además tengo que decir que le he dado un nuevo look a la puerta de casa y ya estoy pensando que más ir cambiando ahora que el tiempo ayuda a disfrutar del exterior

I'm very happy with the result and if in a year or two it gets uglier, I'm always in time to leave it in one colour before changing it for another one 😉.

The truth is that doing a DIY job is something that I like and entertains me, besides I have to say that I have given a new look to the door of the house and I am already thinking about what else to change now that the weather helps to enjoy the outdoors.
