Getting to know the convent of the Discalced Carmelite Sisters - Lara-Venezuela [ENG/ESP]
Greetings dear friends, lovers of architecture and design, I hope you have a happy Saturday weekend in the company of your families.
I am passing by this time to bring you images of a shelter house where the Discalced Carmelite Sisters also called the Carmelo reside.
This place is located on the road to Rio Claro which is the highest part of the city and to get there you have to travel about 20 minutes from Cabudare which is where I live.
We went there to see the facilities because for some time we had been invited to participate in the holy hour that the Carmelite brothers celebrate there on Thursdays of each week, which is very beautiful and rewarding.
So we decided to go there to live a different experience. The first thing I will tell you is that the road, despite having many curves, lets you see many landscapes, crops and beautiful villages.

When you arrive at the entrance gate. The first thing you encounter is a beautiful message welcoming the visitor and indicating that you are entering a house of prayer and praise to God:"Only the honor and glory of God dwells on this mountain"
El Carmelo is founded on mountainous terrain and therefore there are considerable slopes in the terrain, so there are stone walls that serve as containment, to delimit terraces and also give that country aspect to the place that makes it more welcoming. Those who have read me have realized that I love this kind of places, surrounded by nature and away from the city.

The parking lot is large and part of it is roofed with a metallic structure formed by trusses, omega type purlins and an Ascot type roofing tile fastened to the purlins with screws.

Upon entering we find a facade of Romanesque architecture with eight circular columns supporting a triangular-shaped portico that reminded me of the ancient Roman Parthenon. It is worth mentioning that they decorated it with celestial tones and many details alluding to the temples of ancient Rome. They really made that detail very nice.
The door also denotes a nice construction and above it is a green arch full of artificial roses of various colors. A very particular and elegant detail.
Inside the enclosure only the murmur of the wind can be heard and as far as visitors are allowed to enter we were able to take some pictures.
This lodge is divided into two: one for the Carmelite men and one for the women, completely independent of each other.
The architecture is quite simple, made up of metal structures and roofs of metal straps and riplex mesh with friezes underneath and covered with Creole tile on top.
We saw in the corridors some wooden armchairs covered in leather that date from quite a long time ago and that they use in their leisure hours to talk or have a coffee.

We then headed to the chapel where liturgical celebrations are held. It is a small caney type space with a hexagonal roof covered with tongue and groove wood and Creole tile that give a touch of elegance to the enclosure. What you breathe there is pure peace.

There in that chapel is where the holy hour was celebrated in front of the Blessed Sacrament and the image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. A holy hour of much silence that helps the interior meditation.
As we headed for the exit we continued to appreciate the spaces of the place very well distributed and maintained, with its well-kept green areas and gleaming floors that invite meditation and prayer.

Bendiciones.

Very grateful for the support I have received
A convent wouldn't be sustainable if built within the urban fabric - stressful, noisy, polluted. On the other hand, incorporating it within a peaceful mountain definitely serves its true mission. ☺️
