Hello friends of Arquitectura + Diseño!
I recently had an exhausting day of walking around various places in Havana with my friend @jordy0827. At the end of our tour, we stopped at the beautiful and historic Hotel Inglaterra. I confess that I arrived there thirsty and somewhat tired, but upon entering the hotel's portal, the friendly staff invited us to come in and sit in the lounge next to the bar. There we enjoyed a delicious coffee (I think they noticed our tiredness, hehe).

Hace poco tuve un agotador día de paseo por varios lugares de La Habana con mi amigo @jordy0827. Al final de nuestro recorrido, nos detuvimos en el hermoso e histórico Hotel Inglaterra. Confieso que llegué allí sedienta y algo cansada, pero al entrar por el portal del hotel, el amable personal nos invitó a pasar y sentarnos en el salón junto al bar. Allí disfrutamos de un delicioso café (creo que se dieron cuenta de nuestro cansancio, jeje).
However, when we went to the bar and ordered two huge cappuccinos I slowly began to recover my senses and in an instant I realized where I was, The Hotel Inglaterra, the oldest hotel in my country and one of the most luxurious. At that moment I began to look carefully at everything around me. What a beauty! Sitting in that beautiful room, I seemed to be living a dream. Moreover, I could see some restorers patiently working in different areas, without caring that we were watching them. Their work subjugated me and I couldn't stop watching them. I wanted my eyes to catch every detail, as I had never had the opportunity to enter that glamorous hotel before.
Sin embargo, cuando fuimos al bar y pedimos dos capuchinos enormes empecé a recuperar lentamente los sentidos y en un instante me di cuenta de dónde estaba, El Hotel Inglaterra, el más antiguo de mi país y uno de los más lujosos. En ese momento empecé a observar detenidamente todo lo que me rodeaba. ¡Qué belleza! Sentado en aquella hermosa habitación, me parecía estar viviendo un sueño. Además, pude ver a unos restauradores trabajando pacientemente en distintas zonas, sin importarles que les estuviéramos observando. Su trabajo me subyugaba y no podía dejar de mirarlos. Quería que mis ojos captaran cada detalle, ya que nunca antes había tenido la oportunidad de entrar en aquel glamuroso hotel.
This architectural jewel, which is a haven of rest and pleasure for many tourists due to its excellent service, was built in parts over time. In 1856, in its beginnings, it consisted of only two floors. Over the years, it has undergone several expansions and improvements. However, in 1931 it closed its doors and it was not until 1981 that it underwent a remodeling that modernized its interior without altering its exterior appearance, an invaluable patrimonial recovery. The Hotel Inglaterra has been considered a World Cultural Heritage Site and a National Monument ever since.
Esta joya arquitectónica, refugio de descanso y placer para muchos turistas por su excelente servicio, se construyó por partes a lo largo del tiempo. En 1856, en sus inicios, constaba sólo de dos plantas. A lo largo de los años, sufrió varias ampliaciones y mejoras. Sin embargo, en 1931 cerró sus puertas y no fue hasta 1981 cuando sufrió una remodelación que modernizó su interior sin alterar su aspecto exterior, una recuperación patrimonial de incalculable valor. Desde entonces, el Hotel Inglaterra está considerado Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad y Monumento Nacional.
This hotel is located in Paseo del Padro, in the municipality of Habana Vieja. Outside the hotel is the famous Acera del Louvre, which extends from the corner of San Rafael Street (the street of Havana Boulevard) to San Miguel Street. In colonial times, this sidewalk was the cradle of many young Creoles weaving their dreams of independence. Today it is adorned with different artistic mosaics. It receives its name from the exterior portals of the hotel, where the well-known Café El Louvre is located, and as you approach the place, you can perceive the exquisite aroma of coffee in its different specialties. In the entrance that gives access to the portal there is placed a metallic marquecina with ctistaless of colors.
Este Hotes esta ubicado en el Paseo del Padro, en el municipio Habana Vieja. Fuera del hotel se encuentra la famosa Acera del Louvre, que se extiende desde la esquina de la calle San Rafael ( la calle del Boulevard habanero) hasta la calle San Miguel. En la época colonial, esta acera fue la cuna de muchos jóvenes criollos que tejían sus sueños de independencia. Hoy está adornada con diferentes mosaicos artísticos. Recibe su nombre de los portales exteriores del hotel, donde se encuentra el conocido Café El Louvre.Al acercarse al lugar, se percibe el exquisito aroma del café en sus diferentes especialidades. En la entrada que da acceso al portal hay colocada una marquecina metalica con ctistaless de colores
The main entrance, accessible from the portal, has a beautiful golden chandelier and two golden sconces on each side. Next to the door are two white columns topped in gold, and on the recessed granite floor is the hotel's coat of arms. The door is made of wood and glass. At the foot of the door, on the floor, is the name of the hotel.
La entrada principal, accesible desde el portal, tiene una hermosa lámpara dorada y dos apliques dorados a cada lado. Junto a la puerta hay dos columnas blancas rematadas en dorado, y en el suelo de granito empotrado está el escudo del hotel. La puerta es de madera y cristal. A los pies de la puerta, en el suelo, está el nombre del hotel.
Upon entering, the first thing you see is a spacious lobby with comfortable seating. The large windows are decorated with colorful stained glass and beautiful chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Above the counter, where you check in, there are beautiful stained glass windows. On the wall there are five antique clocks that mark the exact time in the main cities of different countries: Milan, Buenos Aires, Havana, Madrid and London. Part of the walls are covered with mosaics, a real beauty.Throughout these common areas there are ornaments, stained glass paintings, all of refined taste.
Al entrar, lo primero que se ve es un amplio vestíbulo con cómodos asientos. Los grandes ventanales están decorados con coloridos vitrales y del techo cuelgan hermosas lámparas . Encima del mostrador, donde se hace el check-in , hay hermosos vitrales de colores. En la pared hay cinco relojes antiguos que marcan la hora exacta en las principales ciudades de distintos países: Milán, Buenos Aires, La Habana, Madrid y Londres. Parte de las paredes están cubiertas de mosaicos, una auténtica belleza. Por todas estas areas comunes se observan adornos, cuadros y vitrales , todo de refinado gusto
Adjacent to the lobby is a wide hallway leading to the elevators. The ceiling is adorned with golden rings of lights, and in the center hang chandeliers. Above the elevators is a beautiful painting.
Junto al vestíbulo hay un amplio pasillo conduce a los ascensores. El techo está adornado con aros dorados de luces, y en el centro cuelgan lámparas. Encima de los ascensores hay un hermoso cuadro.
From the lobby, through a delicately crafted arched trellis, you can see the Café Bar La Sevillana, which is accessed through an arched entrance next to the elevators. We arrive back where we started, enjoying a delicious coffee. The bar is really nice, with a sequence of arches adorning the entire room and stained glass windows. At the back of the room, just in front of the bar, there is a beautiful bronze statue: the Sevillian Dancer, a sculpture of great beauty.
Desde el vestíbulo, a través de un arco enrejados con un delicado trabajo, se ve el Café Bar La Sevillana, al que se accede por una entrada en forma de arco junto a los ascensores. Llegamos nuevmente al lugar donde empezamos disfrutando de un delicioso café. El bar es realmente bonito, con una secuencia de arcos adornados todo el salón y vitrales. Al fondo del salón, justo delante de la barra, hay una hermosa estatua de bronce: la Bailarina Sevillana, una escultura de gran belleza.
Despite the repair scaffolding present in this large hall, you can appreciate the beautiful mosaics and tiles that cover much of the walls. The numerous decorative arches everywhere are fascinating.
A pesar de los andamios de reparación presentes en este gran salón, se pueden apreciar los preciosos mosaicos y azulejos que cubren gran parte de las paredes. Los numerosos arcos decorativos que hay por todas partes son fascinantes.
Beauty, history and glamour are intermingled in this place. It is somewhat paradoxical that it is called Hotel Inglaterra, being the first hotel of the Spanish colonial period in Cuba, where the colonial style predominates. Don't you find it interesting?
