Birds on wall

in Architecture+Design12 days ago (edited)

The other month when I was on holiday in Portugal, I stayed in an airbnb that had this beautiful pair of wall art birds. It's the same as the pair perching on the branch at the bottom of the photo. They were so beautiful and I thought they'd look perfect on my dining room wall.

When I got home I found the product online. It's made by a company in Netherlands called Studio Roof and they do a range of wall art. Apart from the birds, they also have insects, marine, dinasour and other bits and pieces. My heart was set on the birds as I had seen how lovely they were. Unfortunately, they didn't deliver to UK 😔 but had various stockists in UK. I found a box set that included 5 birds and a selection of plants, and I couldn't resist and bought an extra bird called Banda because she looked so stunning.

I was so excited when my package arrived a few days later, and started to assemble the birds immediately. It was very easy, I just had to push the pieces carefully out from the cardboard sheet and slot them in the right place. They also had instructions in case you couldn't work out the correct positions. It took us less than 10 minutes to assemble all six birds.

Now for the difficult part - how to position them on the wall to make it look stunning? Neither myself nor my husband are creative people and don't have a very good eye for art. We jiggled the pieces on the dinner table for a long time till we finally felt happy to put them on the wall.

Then we encountered another tricky part. Initially I thought the birds are flat back and I was going to tack them on the wall with blue tack. It wasn't until I finished assembling them that I realised that due to the design, they had to be pinned on the wall. Luckily I had some push pins at home. Now I had to be really careful with the positioning as I didn't want too many pin holes in my wall.

So here's my dining room wall, pretty bland and boring.

And here's what it looks like now.

We removed a few of the plant pieces from the final layout so it didn't distract from the birds. And I kept the cluster a little compact but not too squashed, otherwise it would look like the birds were all flying away. The pins turns out to be much better than blue tack as it makes the birds more dynamic instead of flat on the wall. And I can easily tilt them a little to change their angle.

I'm really pleased with my new decor, the colourful wall art makes so much difference to the previously bland and boring wall. What do you think?

Wow, what a beautiful set of birds. Love how you have to assemble them with your hand which is such a fun activity in itself. Now I want some too! 😁

It's a very quick way to brighten up home with something that I can claim I made with my own hands

That is pretty cool. I am glad you were able to find a source for them where you live. That would have been a bummer if they were totally inaccessible to you. Either that or just an excuse to make a trip to the Netherlands!

Yeah, I was surprised they didn't deliver to UK, luckily quite a few shops stock them in UK

This is a beautiful way to decorate the walls. If you can't order it there, I bet I can't order it in Turkey. So I'm going to see if they have this kind of stuff in my country. I'm sure my girlfriend would like this idea too.

Still girlfriend ? Fiancée 🥰

The boring wall turned into something beautiful and interesting. Super cool idea and I love how they are giving 3d effects together, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional effects. I hope cleaning those birds sometimes is not gonna be a problem...

I hope cleaning those birds sometimes is not gonna be a problem...

I also thought about the cleaning part... :D

There will be no bird poo for sure!!

🤣 Yea...

Your wall looks cheerful and colorful. And the best thing is that the birds are three-dimensional which gives more character to the decoration. Good choice! 🤗

I think they're very cleverly designed and colourful, I'm really pleased with it

That's the important thing, to be pleased.

Now the Orchidea has entertainment - looking at those pretty, colourful birds on the wall. 😇

{Do they also sing? 😁🎶}

As @priyanarc, I was also wondering about dusting. Maybe just let them fly sometimes in your home so the dust never attaches to them 😇

Do they also sing?

We may find out if they listen to a piano recital 😉

So, maybe a Canon in D in piano version would make them sing ;)

The birds look really beautiful on the wall. That's a quite interesting way of decorating your wall. Something really unique and fun. Be careful about any cat in your house (she doesn't know they are fake 😺).

And yes, that top middle one, is that the lord Shen from kung fu panda?

I haven't watched Kung Fu panda before... But she's a little beaut

And luckily I don't have a cat otherwise my birdies will be in danger!

And this so cool? hahaha... Yes! I've got my camera ready for bird watching in your dining room.

You've got a great wall. Travelling is a total learning experience, even in an airbnb you get ideas.

😉

You got your ultra zoom lens ready? Pleased let me know when the photos are ready, don't take too long!!!

😅🤗📷

Have a nice weekend, LUT. 🙃👋🏻

They’re beautiful and reminds me of the lovely Algarve. Our friend and neighbour has decorated their walls with butterflies that come to think of it might be a similar product.

I can imagine the butterflies will be so beautiful as well

Yeah, not really my thing, I prefer paintings or framed photos. However it’s their house not mine!

Fascinating! I came across many kinds of puzzles but never saw anything like these birds. Look so cool on the wall 👍

Puzzle and art two in one, I'm glad I came across them

they also have insects, marine, dinasour and other bits and pieces

You did not make a mistake with the choice of birds.
A beautiful decoration on your wall.
The only thing that hangs on the nails that damaged the wall.
But, after you change this decoration, it can be solved, for example, with a frame with a picture of a larger area 🙂

Yes, luckily the pin holes are very small and can be easily covered like you say. In fact the holes are so small they're barely visible unless you get very close to the wall.

Wow @livinguktaiwan those beautiful decorations are amazing! I love theme already, I also want to make and try it myself☺️

What a nice decoration, the birds are cute and I like that they can be put together like a puzzle, this wall now has something to admire. 😘 @livinguktaiwan

It looks beautiful @livinguktaiwan!
It's funny but here on the other side of the world, I've been adding wall art to the bnb cottage exterior wall. My walls inside are almost look like an art gallery, I'm running out of space.
I'm looking for a fish to place on the wall where I have a little hidden garden of remembrance for Arthur.
I was so upset this week, went to the SPCA and found really nice wall art suitable for exterior walls, plus found some good picture frames, left it on a chair inside the deserted picture frame section, hid it with cardboard while going shopping in the other charity stores, came back and someone had picked up my stash of wall art! Lesson learnt, rather take it to the paypoint and ask them to safekeep it!
I will share my Acrican theme wall art project soon, I now need to look for a couple more after losing my little stash,
I'm still looking for a fish to put on the wall in Arthur's little garden of remembrance.
My sister-in-law used to do mosaic art, it may be a good project for her when my brother's away for work.

@livinguktaiwan Too beautiful, your birds, their color ranges stand out, they fascinate me, very original. They look great in the way they are placed.
