The Central Library of the Universidad Central de Venezuela

in Architecture+Design2 years ago (edited)

My passion for libraries, archives and documentation centers stems from my training as an archivist, during my years as a student at the historic Central University of Venezuela (UCV), these spaces were my continent to emerge with effusion in my tastes for these places. It is not only about inhabiting them, it is about marveling at their attractiveness and staying in the observation of their ways of projecting their contents, the books, their order, the reading rooms, the reference rooms, the user service and the most incredible thing is to put knowledge at the service of the user.

I am willing to use all the power entrusted to me to make this body (the Central University of Venezuela) occupy a distinguished place among the universities of the world. Simón Bolívar 10-01-1827

This is my 2nd installment in this community @ and I am pleased to introduce you to the historical and architectural nooks and crannies of my university's main library, as a student. And I say this because I am from universities and it is possible that I will also find spaces of those other houses of studies to which I belonged.

That red building with which the Library is distinguished is covered with small ceramics on the side and inside all its walls are also tiny ceramics.

At the entrance there is a huge petroglyph, which reminds us of the first manifestations of writing, allegorical this entrance for all the knowledge organized in this place. In addition to a huge stained glass window in its hall

Only one room was in operation, however, you can see the details of its organization and shape. The books and the huge corridors that give natural light coming from its beautiful view to that huge garden "no man's land".

Most of its walls are covered with tiny ceramic tiles and delicately polished wood. Its large windows. This bibliographic consultation room also has a very large and cozy waiting room, apart from the huge tables with inclined shape for the arrangement of users to consult books.

Some tables are flat and others have a special inclination so that users have the comfort of observing several documents in physical form, with the appropriate egonomics for this interaction between the researcher and the study documents.

You can even observe its covered walkways that are just recovering, due to damages suffered by lack of maintenance, however, the recovery of these spaces is almost essential to preserve this architectural work.

That view from the library to the majestic "land of naide", is also taken advantage of in the background by the most important mountain that surrounds the city and the "Waraira Repano" ancient "Cerro Avila", is practically a natural decoration and a work of art arranged to the eyes.

Upon entering the room, to the right the large windows 'of glass with which the natural light is also exploited, have a wide corridor, which leads to a very ventilated balcony and allows to appreciate, the walkways, the works of art of no man's land and the beautiful mountain of my city.

The University represents for many not only the campus for the formation of professionals in the country this (the UCV) is also a work of art and architecture itself for the world, at the service of humanity, kilometers of art and delicacy in its spaces provide great beauty in its design and represents the inspiring monument for many young people in my country want to be inside it not only studying but also graduating from their classrooms.

So much for my tour of my university's main library. Nourishing my blog with these memories and thankful for this community @architecture

Thank you for updating your post. Cheers! 😀

Thank you for your attention and time @aplusd

What a nice library, it reminded me of the one at my Engineering School at ULA. Filled with a lot of art. I loved to go there to study or do research, in the middle of its tranquility. I love all the art that surrounds the UCV.

Surely the ULA also has stories to tell in all its architecture, once I visited its spaces and it was so, it was very small my visit, work by the way but in the room that was I think it was part of the Rectorate and was very beautiful. Thank you for your comment @doriangel
