Champa Gali - The street of joy, music and food.

in Architecture+Designlast month (edited)

Few weeks ago, My friend and I planned catching up She choose a Cafe in Saket, New Delhi which was extremely cozy and had a positive vibe.
Actually it was a alley of cafes with people sitting in between the streets with bon fire, guitar and music.
The street wasn't for vehicles obviously.

So, It was all new to me even though this arrangement is in my city itself. My friend being kind, she took me to the best one out of all cafes to have some good food and cozy ambience.
CHAMPA GALI

The famous cafe street called champa gali is what we went in for.
Jugmug thela was my friend's recommendation. I loved it and how!

MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES
What one notices in cafe when they enter is
a. Ambience
b. Picture perfect backdrops
c. At last food.

I as an Architect had more observations than the common ones by all.
So, I noticed-

  1. The indoor and outdoor balanced seating
  2. Semi partitioned Kitchen entry
  3. Cornered Washrooms with mini foyer for privacy

Funny ha! My friend always finds me a sort of irritating when I mention such things, she isn't from the field by the way!

Once I went to her apartment and her washroom had switches far from door. which I was the only one who pointed the builder's mistake lol she makes a point to tell this story always.

So, coming back to JUGMUG Thela. the cafe has undoubtly the most calming hilly region vibe.

All earthy toned paints, usage of cane and jute. plus the light yellow lighting gave such a cozy feel.
we went a month ago when it was super cold in my city, now the winters has departed.
During our visit it was super cold and we loved the environment and all lively joyous people sitting around.

The wooden rafters exposed on ceiling instead of fancy false ceiling. Usage of rattan pendant lights instead of COBs or spot lights. Usage of lime wash in sand beige instead of pvc/wpc etc industry standard panels.
Addition of teak wood framings and racks wasamazing and it goes with the pendent lights all around the space.

The fusion of bright colors like red and mustard was infused with the pale backdrop of entire space.
Also the books added in the cafe's rack was available to read and purchase as well. which was really amazing

Inclusion of lots and lots of plants was their attempt to a biophilic earthy theme which they successfully created.

I am in love with the design although didnot got a chance to know who designed the space but whoever did, they did amazing job.

DIVING INTO FOOD

When we got our eyes off the space, we jumped onto our orders and gossips.
The food was super delicious with moderately even pricing.
I was a bit taken back by the amazing taste, because generally the amazing looking spaces disappoints when it comes to tasting but they surpassed on taste too.
Which we absolutely loved it.
The space was mostly into indo- american, indo-french and indo- chinese dishes, which are generally served in cafes here.
So they met with the pallete of consumers.
AS we tried departing from the space, a beautiful alley was decorated with flags and lights also mirror installations all around outside was super lucrative and a good strategy for customers to have a bit of ambience with them through pictures.
Sharing some memories-

No doubt the interior design of the cafeteria is very cozy, excellent choice of your friend for a girl's day out. Your visuospatial appreciation reminds me a lot of my dearest cousin, he is also an architect and can't help but do a design review of every new place we visit 😅. Loved the hanging coffee pot decor.

Hi @indipnash91 thank you for your kind words of appreciation.
I am happy that you liked it and got to see some glimpse of my city and life while sitting across globe.
keep shining, take care.

Amazing place to be!
loved the vibe honestly.
Keep posting buddy.

Actually it's super fun, we shall visit there too.

Your description of the restaurant was truly captivating. No doubt, you being an architect comes handy in this regard.

Keep up the fantastic work!
