Bakery, pastry shop and restaurant La Lusitana
Flor de Cagua was a bakery in my town so old that I do not know when it was created, I just remember that it had always been in the same place and every time I had a special event in the center where it was located in front of the Sucre square, I always went in to eat something, Whether it was a coffee, a piece of cake, a piece of bread with ham or a slice of pizza, this bakery was present in my moments of joy and sadness, throughout my life, because at its diagonal is the church where I was baptized and where some distant relatives have also been veiled.
Many times I paraded through the square and this bakery was a witness of my journey, growth and development, so seeing it decline in both production and sales due to the crisis in my country made me sad, I always went in even if it was just to buy water and now that I am writing these words I realize how important the structures and editions become for personal memory. This bakery came to an end this year when they decided to sell or remodel, I do not know well what happened, the truth is that the change generated a new business called "La Lusitana"
This new place is the one I want to review and a few days after its inauguration I wanted to see what had become of this space available to write a new story.
While it was being remodeled the rumors of the locals was that it would be a food by weight restaurant, where you could choose what you wanted in a buffet menu, that day I found that it was not so. This business has a particular characteristic and that is that I failed to define its main niche, as it is a bakery, pastry shop and restaurant at the same time, three things in one. Let's take a look at its architecture and interior design.
Its location is still privileged for being in front of the main square and close to the church, the government palace, shopping malls and main roads. The colors that predominate from afar are lead gray with red details and letters that make it attractive. In the large letters is the name La Lucitana and it seems to be of Italian origin but I am not sure.
Upon entering there is the cash register, the main aisle and some tables, the chairs are bright red and all the decoration keeps the main colors gray and red, I avoided taking pictures of the tables because they were busy and people can get uncomfortable if you take pictures of them, rightly so, but at first glance I felt uncomfortable, I think the location of the cash register did not please me. As it was recently inaugurated they decorated it with Christmas and its tree is striking and unique, I had never seen a red one, at the end of the entrance and in front are the breads and sweet cakes, all together I did not think it was a good idea to put them together but if they were at first sight.
At the end of that hallway is a very elegant staircase that gives distinction and also looks modern, its steps are bright red leading to an upper level. This is something new since the old business was small and only had a low floor, but before going up I found another surprise and this one was to my complete liking, so much so that I stayed a long time observing, taking pictures and even playing with my image 😁🤭.
I found the bathroom, which is next to the staircase and has a very chic decoration, its back wall has a poster full of color and appealing to any audience, after contemplating this art I turned around and there was a sink and a very nice and modern mirror of that smart, that turn on and off by touch, as if it were a digital device, well yes, actually it is a digital mirror and it reflects the poster I just mentioned, this area is for those people who just want to wash their hands or face without using the sink. The washing area also has an original shape and is deep to avoid the floor or other surfaces.
I had to enter the full bathroom and satisfy my curiosity, so I opened that red door that identifies that it is a bathroom for both sexes. Upon entering I found a nice, clean and minimalist bathroom with everything necessary for our needs, here there is also a wash basin and of course there is the well. This space has its silver accessories such as the wastebasket, the soap holder, its walls are made of a type of ceramic or aged gray earthenware that gives it a rustic look and the most charming detail, again a smart mirror. Here I could play a little with the lights, tell me if it is not a beauty?
After the emotions left by the bathroom I decided to go upstairs and eat something to get a complete impression, about the food I will write another post, continuing with the architecture and design of this place, I went upstairs without taking a picture of the stairs and when I got upstairs I got another good impression, this is where the restaurant works.
They have three types of furniture, there are round or square tables for two or four people, at the end there are sofas or padded furniture that look very nice and the other type of furniture are actually stool chairs attached to the glass wall. Notice that they have a big poster on the wall with a map of Portugal, so it is a Portuguese business not Italian as I first thought 🥴😁.
I also liked this space because if I want to eat looking at the square or the church I can enjoy that view, I thought that was very wise of the architects. Upstairs I noticed that they had music to set the mood and the details on the table, the TV and everything else make a nice atmosphere. Going downstairs I remembered that I had not taken good pictures of the stairs, which are still beautiful, wide and with its aluminum railing that gives it that chic touch.
It is a nice place to meet with a friend, have lunch with a family member or sit alone for coffee. At the end of my tour I was satisfied and happy with the architecture and decoration. I hope to bring my mom soon and give her a sweet and good experience.
