Greetings dear friends of #architectureanddesign ! I wish you a great day. I am with you for another day to share the architecture of this beautiful church located in Boca de Rio, in the Macanao peninsula, almost two hours drive from the town where I live.
A few days ago I was walking around the peninsula with my family, because we wanted to know the peninsula and its charming places. That is how I came to this beautiful church that, although it was closed, its walls let us appreciate its exterior beauty.
According to what a local told me, this church is the church of San Francisco de Asis, located very close to the sea in Boca de Rio, in the Macanao peninsula of Nueva Esparta state, Margarita Island.
¡Saludos queridos amigos de #architectureanddesign ! Les deseo un día genial. Me encuentro otro día más con ustedes para compartir la arquitectura de esta hermosa iglesia que se encuentra ubicada en Boca de Río, en la península de Macanao, a casi dos horas de viaje de la localidad donde yo resido.
Hace ya algunos días estuve por la península paseando con mi familia, pues queríamos conocer la península y sus encantadores lugares. Así fue como llegué a esta hermosa iglesia que, aunque estaba cerrada, sus paredes dejan apreciar su belleza exterior.
Según me contó un lugareño, esta iglesia es de San Francisco de Asís, ubicada muy cerca del mar en Boca de Río, en la península de Macanao del estado Nueva Esparta, Isla Margarita.
She also told me that this church is the pride of many fishermen because they worked hard to build and maintain it. According to what this kind local woman told me, the church was built of reinforced concrete. The cement was brought in barrels from Chacachacare, which is another locality, in a piragua, which is a boat, and the larger stones for its foundations and construction were brought from Cubagua Island, which is an uninhabited island also belonging to the state of Nueva Esparta. All its walls were covered with granza, a small pebble that has given it its exterior color.
I confess that what caught my attention the most about this church was the coating of all its walls. In my ignorance, before asking, I thought it was covered with rosillo, a small stone used in construction. What I found strange was the color, so I asked this kind lady who told me with great pride about the church. She even told me that it was mostly women who carried these small stones in baskets.
También me contó que esta iglesia es el orgullo de muchos pescadores porque colaboraron arduamente para construirla y mantenerla. Según me relató esta amable lugareña, la iglesia fue construida de hormigón armado. El cemento fue llevado en barriles desde Chacachacare, que es otra localidad, en una piragua, que es una embarcación, y las piedras más grandes para sus cimientos y construcción fueron traídas de la Isla Cubagua que es una isla deshabitada perteneciente también al estado nueva esparta. Todas sus paredes fueron revestidas con granza, una pequeña piedrecita que le ha dado su color exterior.
Les confieso que lo que más me llamó la atención de esta iglesia fue el revestimiento de todas sus paredes. En mi ignorancia, antes de preguntar, pensaba que estaba revestida de rosillo, unas piedritas que se usan mucho en construcción. Lo que veía raro era el color, por eso pregunté a esta amable señora que me habló con gran orgullo de la iglesia. Incluso me comentó que fueron en su mayoría mujeres las que cargaron estas pequeñas piedritas en cestas.
This beautiful church on its front has a large door and spacious steps that lead you to it, showing a beautiful and pleasant front with a slender tower with its cross.
Esta hermosa iglesia en su frente tiene una gran puerta y espaciosos escalones que te llevan a ella, mostrando un frente hermoso y agradable con una torre esbelta con su cruz.
It has some shrubs on its sides that are difficult to maintain with its greenery because of the aggressive saltpeter.
Tiene algunos arbustos por sus costados que les cuesta mantener con su verdor por lo agresivo que es el salitre.
It has a beautiful tower with a cross embedded in the wall and another at the top of the tower.
Tiene una hermosa torre con una cruz incrustada en la pared y otra muy en lo alto de dicha torre.
I could also appreciate that this church does not appear to be very small and has eighteen arched wooden shutters.
También pude apreciar que esta iglesia no parece ser muy pequeña y cuenta con dieciocho persianas de madera en forma de arco.
Its roof is made of beams and tiles, so you can see from the outside that the roof is very well preserved.
It has three large wooden doors with two arched leaves, which will be varnished and remodeled again, because they suffer a lot with the erosion of the sea.
Su techo es de vigas y teja, por lo que se puede apreciar desde el exterior, que el techo se ve muy bien conservado.
Tiene tres puertas grandes de madera de dos hojas en forma de arco, las cuales serán nuevamente barnizadas y remodeladas, porque sufren mucho con la erosión del mar.
I confess to you, dear friends of design and architecture, that I have been left wanting to see the inside of this church, and even though the distance I travel is very long, I have a reason to come back, I think this church has even more anecdotes about the construction inside and one day I want to share them with you.

This building is not very simple however. very wide. The architecture shows that it has a class of its own so that people who visit can feel comfortable there @taniagonzalez
Yes, it is a church built, to the liking of the comfort and the need of the locals, of there is top unique architecture. I can't wait to go back and be able to see its interior .

A simple but elegant church indeed @taniagonzalez. From a distance, its walls look like they're just coated with paint but you mentioned they were covered by small pebbles called granza. Do you have a close-up photo of this special building material? We're curious. ☺️

I really liked the design of this church, and the cladding on the walls, the first time I have heard of granza stone. I feel committed to go back to see it inside, and take other photos so I can show everyone a little more of this Church and the Stories of love and commitment the locals feel for it. I think the façade is clad with projected granite and that gives it that beautiful relief.
