Building the Future of Music on Hive
Together, we can make Hive a magnet for musicians worldwide by giving them the recognition they deserve. Thanks for taking the time to read this proposal and know our plans.
Never heard of cXc? Here's our OG intro post on Peakd
If this is your first time hearing from me, allow me to introduce myself.
Hi, my name is Douglas.
I love empowering creators, and as a musician who codes, I build tools to help musicians.
I built a map of music cXc.world, with localized Top Charts, and I want to bring it BACK to Hive, better than ever. I'm asking for your support to make it happen.
Before moving ahead, let's catch up. After launching our music map on Steem in 2018, and Hive in 2020, cXc.world removed our Hive integration in 2021 to focus on WAX. We built NFT standards, staking contracts, and added NFTs to cXc.world. Now, we're initiating our long-planned return to Hive, and asking for Hive funds to make it epic.
Proposal Summary
Our goal is to discover, recognize, and share the best music from everywhere on Hive, every single day. We will create engaging, impactful on- and off-chain music charts on Hive, attracting new Hive users from WAX and the wider music community. We believe this will onboard musicians. We'll encourage new users by auto-upvoting musical posts, using over half the budget to lock HP.
New to the project? cXc in 15 seconds
cXc has been in limbo for some time, writing smart contracts to prepare to launch Beta, shown in the demo, while maintaining the limited Alpha version of the site.
Now, cXc is launching daily top-charts to measure the top-upvoted music.
cXc Beta uses geotemporal curation, a concept we pioneered, and I wrote about in the Web 4 Manifesto.
With DHF funding, we can recognize musicians with status, every day.
We will release the tech open-source, inviting others to build their own take. We believe this innovation has the potential attract millions of new Hive users in the next 5 years.
How we got here
cXc launched on Steem and transitioned to Hive, creating a map of music where fans and artists can post their favorite songs to Hive with a few clicks. We started to launch top-charts but didn’t complete the feature due to incomplete app development. Now, with the completion of the Ups contract, we are ready to relaunch cXc.world on Hive.
Why Fund cXc
This is a short-term ask with long-term benefits.
We believe we can generate ten times (or more) economic value for Hive than the funding required to build the app. Our code will be open-source, allowing others to replicate the chart concept for different media types and content. This project will bring non-chainers and non-Hivers onto Hive, increasing the likelihood they join and continue to use the platform.
We want to make this a beneficial relationship for all involved. More than half of the funds will go to curating Music on Hive.

Problems
Hive is great, and could improve. Here's some barriers I see to greater adoption + use.
- Low financial benefit for brand new accounts after the #introduceyourself post.
- High-effort to share a musical post, relatively limited exposure.
- Low awareness of Hive in wider music industry + blockchain space.
Solutions
We want to tap into status + social recognition. We believe that by recognizing artists struggling to get exposure, we'll offer enough benefit for them to share the post outside of Hive, attracting creative people to Hive.
This is a proposal to benefit all of Hive including builders, and we're committed to make everything we build open source. For artists, we pledge to lock over 50% of funds to curate music as long as Hive is producing blocks.
With funds, we'll build all listed here, and if we're funded the whole time, some strech goals.
The Plan
- Bring Back One-Click cXc->Hive Posting: Bring back cXc.world's straight-to-Hive posting feature for artists and fans, with greater focus on helping artists. This feature allows simple sharing of a music post into a formatted blog post, helping bloggers show off the music they love and earn curation rewards, and musicians to get free exposure. (Solves problem #2)
- Curate music posts: We'll use most funds for Hive power to upvote all music posts shared from cXc.world on Hive, and all tags like #openmic #music etc. (Solves problem #1)
- Launch Daily Top Music Charts as Posts: This is the plan! We start posting daily top music charts on Hive, including local charts for the most active nations. You'll get to find great new artists, and the artists will compete for a spot in the coveted list of top creators. You can repost your favorite music easily and earn the curation rewards (all parties benefit, problem #3).
- Promotion campaign + epic video: We're working with a professional videographer to highlight the new Hive integrations + top charts. We'll take the time to detail our journey, and share our announcements far and wide including paid promo on Peakd. (Problem #3)

Stretch Goals
- Bridge cXc Tokens to Hive: Bring our established token from WAX onto Hive.
- Launch Cross-chain Economic Benefits for HIVE Posts: We'll use our bridged tokens to give extra benefit to Hive musicians by rewarding engagement metrics on Hive.
Use of Funds
We're asking for $480 a day for 60 days
Here's the breakdown
- 250 HBD / day - Directly spent on Hive for Hive Power to auto-upvote hashtags, encouraging musicians to keep posting. We won't move these funds (ever) once staked to HP.
- 180 HBD / Day - One full time engineer (my github) and two part time engineers to build open source code.
- 50 HBD / Day - Media magic man Alejandro Lozada (Hombre Solar) and promotion budget
Total Budgets
15,000 HBD - HP to @currentxchange to upvote music posts
10,800 HBD - Dev + Open-source code
3,000 HBD - Promotion + professional announcement video

Trust
We have a proven track record of exceeding expectations. Here is our completed grant from the WAX team, where we developed the core technology underlying our app, including Media NFT standards, NFT staking, and our Upvote smart contracts. Now, with this pivot to Hive we'll be able to fulfill our original vision on Hive.
Last words
We love music, we love Hive, we hope you feel the same.
Thank you for your support.
Musically yours,

Bring back? Huh?
Why not support the music enterprise that is already here.
Oh I understand, you can't get dolla's from supporting others.
this is just a scam to put finance in a private pocket.
Agreed. Support all the music here.
We probably sent a million interactions helping artist here on Hive, as we've been running auto upvoting on musical hashtags for over five years now.
You can see from our last grant through WAX that we do deliver on grants, above and beyond.
I define a scam as someone not doing what they say. So to me, your comment is a scam because you aren't doing what you said of actually reviewing the proposal.
If you're not hip enough to be a part of cXc, you're welcome to do whatever makes you happy other places. All the best.
When it comers to music, I will never be hip.
I will concede scam is a bit harsh for what you do. But It is manipulation of sorts for a personal benefit.
Unless I could see the long term ambition and the support road you plan to make it happen. All I read is we will rely on the DHF regardless of success.
Success measured how though?
The why to do something.
all my blah blahs.
My opinion.
You do not dare to dream.
You should be building to recording equipment a place to house them and let artists use them.
Building a musical instrument collection for visitors to use.
Acquiring venues where you host shows from the unknown artists.
Offering tickets to go see other artists and tickets for venues you host.
So yes, in general this just puts stake in private pockets.
Without you does the show still go on?
My lag indicators or KPIs would be

I'm lost in ur sauce, but generally you have to pay people for things. I'm asking to be paid to build this thing. I think it's cool. If you like it, you are invited to support it with a vote, which is like paying for it without paying anything directly. If enough people also vote, I'll build it. Fast. And purty.
Anyways, Thanks for the new thoughts. Those are worth the vote for support.
Not easy holding your tongue with me.
Thanks for your support.
Apologize for implying you weren't hip. That's not cool. You seem like a rational, good person.
Also, in relation to another comment, we do do other things for artists. I hold cyphers, record musicians for free. We even had a music award show (the posts are on our Hive) for 18 shows.
In fin, I'm just a guy with a dream, and the ability to build it. I think it will help Hive, and I hope others see that impact. I can't afford to take the gamble on my own because I simply don't have the personal money runway to eat and also develop enough to make it profitable. I've been at this for 5 years, trying to do it all by myself. It's humbling to ask for help. It's hard to communicate the benefit that will come from this, and how much work has been done. The main app alone was 40k+ lines of code I wrote by hand before AI. That's not including any of the on-chain elements.
I took no offense to the hip comment. Hip is perception and I am not easy to see where I am coming from. not by intention though.
There you go, that's one target to aim for. How to generate 1K to make an award that has a value of 500. The other 500 is for the artist to make the mould and then later can do each for 50 a cast or something.
So which account makes regular posts? I will add to the auto.
Irish here.
I have nothing against a guy making a buck. Man needs to eat.
I am more looking to a future and wondering. Should a time come when other things need your attention. (Which they better or you stood still.) At that time Can you see the project fund itself and have people doing what needs to be done as if it were a business they were employees of.
How do you make it like Disney. So it can carry on to promote the unknowns and bring them to a mainstream audience, (albeit small). In 40 70 years and remain to do its original function?
Not your gig I know. But if you could build something. It would be nice for it to stand.
One more thing, What are you going to give back to the blockchain?
Should you project grow and a music promoter want to buy your project. What % of the sale price goes back to the chain?
In Financial terms, more than half of the funding goes towards giving upvotes to music.
In tangible deliverables, we will produce at least 365 posts per year that are collaborative post involving all types of musicians here.
So what?? I can make posts?!?! (you, in my head)
Yes, but we are creating a competition, in this competition is a brand new paradigm.
Because the competition involves people who aren't even on Blockchain, the artist I'm talking about, and the reward of the competition requires their attention on a Hive post, we are drastically increasing the likelihood that influential creators will create an account.
And content. Easier.
With our one click posting feature, anyone can find music on our map and share it to their blog. This allows anybody from hive to create content that can get created with little effort. And this content isn't just crap, it's showing their musical preference, and also helping the musician by getting them plays and exposure.
The big picture to understand why this proposal is worth way more $$$
In intangible terms, we are tapping into the psychological motivation of status and recognition, some of the most powerful sorcery in our modern world. We've created an algorithm that utilizes the same basic human psychology principles that make Instagram successful, but we do it in a way that gets everybody paid, and empowers creators.
