Hey Ladies and Gentlemen, today I want to go over "DICAST: Rules of Chaos", a strategy game developed by the German team "Shot Second" and released in 2019. It is a turn-based game where players compete as commanders of Dicast units in a futuristic dice and board battle. The game offers various single-player and multiplayer modes, but the main focus is set on the PvP mode. The variety of units you can chose from have different abilities and properties. Dicast also offers numerous options for customizing units, allowing players to adapt their strategy and gameplay tactics.

Gameplay & Fun Factor (80%)

This game is so much fun! I like the combination of RPG elements with a board game. I like the various characters and how I can play them differently from each other. Each skill forces you into different gameplay tactics, keeping the gameplay thrilling. The bases also have their own buffs and debuffs, and can be leveled up. There are accessoires that upgrade your character and make them stronger. And last but not least, you can also chose from a set of dices in your deck, mixed with the random ones. Even if there is a gambling part built into, the essential part is all about tactics.

DICAST has no advertising, except you start them by yourself. This is needed, if you want, to lessen the time you have to wait to open a treasure box, one of the rewards you can get if you win a match. This said, the treasures are the gacha element of the game. I enjoy gacha elements, especially when it comes to obtaining parts to upgrade my character or base. However, I don't like timed chests. Nonetheless, I understand the intention behind it, especially when it comes to games that incorporate such a mechanic.

The PvP battle on the Monopoly-like game board is exciting, engaging, and lasts between 2 and 5 minutes. The board game includes random elements through the dice rolls, but offers enough control through character abilities, base abilities, and board game tiles.

Blockchain Usability (75%)

The Play-to-Earn function of "DICAST: Rules of Chaos" is made possible using a proprietary cryptographic token called "DICE", which is located on the Klaytn blockchain. Players can earn these tokens through various activities in the game, such as winning in multiplayer matches or completing challenges and quests.

Klaytn is a blockchain platform developed by Ground X, a subsidiary of the South Korean internet giant Kakao. Klaytn is also optimized for mobile usage, with its user-friendly interface and mobile wallet enabling users to easily access and use dApps from their mobile devices.

The integration of the Klaytn wallet into the mobile game is straightforward: Connect your Metamask-compatible wallet to the Klaydice station, add the Klaytn blockchain to your wallet, and then copy and paste the DICAST OTP directly from the game. One minor drawback is that once you link your wallet address, it cannot be unlinked from your account. Therefore, choose carefully which definitive wallet you want to use for this game.

Community & Events (60%)

I joined the Discord community, but found it mostly inactive. The game has some ongoing events, and social media posts are occasionally made to engage with the community, but there hasn't been much success. The Korean language is the most active on Discord, with several posts per day, but the global community averages only one post per day, making it far from an active community. There is a lot of room for improvement, although it's unclear how much the community can be fostered for such a game. The eSports elements are excellent, and when events with prize money are introduced, there may be more interaction.

Overall Rating 4 Sloths (72% + 3%)

DICAST scores an average of 72 points: it's exciting enough to shout at opponents while lying on the sofa, but also repetitive. The combination of gameplay elements is thrilling and allows for strategic play, with matches lasting between 2 and 5 minutes, making it perfect for short bursts of mobile fun. More active events focused on esports with live broadcasts and prizes would be great. I'm curious to see where the game goes and hope to have more hours of fun with it, perhaps with some rewarding play-to-earn payouts in the future. The score of 71 is rounded up to 75 as DICAST definitely has the sloth factor.
