Today I want to talk to you about a really good book that left me with my heart tight and my head spinning: "La sospecha de Sofía" by Paloma Sánchez Garnica... and look, from the moment I opened this book, it caught me with an idea that hits you super fast: in Europe, with the Berlin Wall dividing everything, two men and a woman looking for their place in the world! Yes, the story takes you through Madrid, Paris and Berlin, so you get fully into the time of the Wall and also into Franco's Spain... it's like travelling back in time, guys, haha, every city has its problem, its atmosphere and a lot of hidden secrets... the first thing that blew my mind was how Paloma puts you in Sofia's shoes... this woman, super intelligent!, a scientist with a lot of dreams, is forced to put aside her idea of ​​studying a master's degree because of the rules of society and because she gets married in 63... how infuriating it is to see how in the 20th century such a brilliant mind has to be held back by what was expected of women...

It made me think of how many times women have had to put aside what they are passionate about, to fit in with what they are supposed to be, on the other hand we have Daniel, Sofia's husband, whose life changes suddenly when he receives an anonymous letter... imagine the shock... suddenly he discovers that everything he thought he knew came from where... came... it's a lie! And that launches him on a trip to Paris to find the truth about his real mother... this twist left me super intrigued, because, without spoiling too much, it leaves you wondering what's up, what the heck is really going on... and how these people's lives are so complicated and crazy.

Hola a todos, amigos lectores, espero que estén genial en este día, hoy les quiero hablar de un libro super bueno, que me dejó con el corazón apretado y la cabeza dando vueltas: "La sospecha de Sofía" de Paloma Sánchez Garnica.. y miren, desde que abrí este libro, me atrapó con una idea que te impacta super rápido: en Europa, con el Muro de Berlín dividiéndolo todo, ¡dos hombres y una mujer buscando su lugar en el mundo! sí, la historia te lleva por Madrid, París y Berlín, así que te metes de lleno en la época del Muro y también en el franquismo en España.. es como viajar en el tiempo, chicos, jaja, cada ciudad tiene su problema, su ambiente y un montón de secretos escondidos.. lo primero que me voló la cabeza fue cómo Paloma te mete en la piel de Sofía.. esta mujer, ¡súper inteligente!, una científica con un montón de sueños, se ve obligada a dejar de lado su idea de estudiar un máster por las reglas de la sociedad y porque se casa en el 63.. qué rabia da ver cómo en pleno siglo XX una mente tan brillante tiene que frenarse por lo que se esperaba de las mujeres..

Me hizo pensar en cuántas veces las mujeres han tenido que dejar de lado lo que les apasiona, por encajar en lo que se supone que deben ser, por otro lado tenemos a Daniel, el esposo de Sofía, al que la vida le cambia de golpe cuando recibe una carta anónima.. imagínense el shock.. de repente descubre que todo lo que creía saber de dónde venía… ¡ es mentira! Y eso lo lanza a un viaje a París para buscar la verdad sobre su verdadera madre.. este giro me dejó super intrigado, porque, sin spoilearles mucho, te deja ahí pensando qué onda, qué rayos está pasando en realidad.. y como la vida de estas personas es tan complicada y alocada.

The way the novel is written is super fast-paced and it throws in twists that keep you hooked. You can't stop reading, I swear. Paloma is a master at handling mystery and suspense, and she throws in things about spies, the Berlin Wall, the Stasi, the KGB... everything! These details not only make the story more interesting, but they also show you how complicated everything was back then... on each page you feel like the pieces of the puzzle are moving all over the place, so it keeps you hooked from start to finish. One of the things I liked the most is how it goes deeper into the characters, Sofia and Daniel are presented to you as victims of a political and social world that crushes them... the internal struggle of each one to not lose themselves and to protect those they love is something that reaches you, especially with Sofia, who sees how her way of being is always threatened by a sexist system that wants her submissive and without ambitions... that very real way of showing it made me remember how badly the world behaved, and how some still do...

The book touches on themes that affect us all: love, mystery, lies, betrayal, forgiveness and finding yourself, all that mixed in a plot where the characters have to make super difficult decisions to survive in a world that suffocates them... how the author unites all those themes is wonderful, it makes each part of the story add up to something bigger and more exciting, without it feeling false or forced.

La forma en que está escrita la novela es súper ágil y te mete unos giros que te enganchan, no puedes parar de leer, te lo juro, Paloma es una maestra para manejar el misterio y el suspenso, y le mete cosas de espías, del Muro de Berlín, la Stasi, la KGB… ¡de todo! esos detalles no solo hacen la historia más interesante, sino que te muestran lo complicado que era todo en esa época.. en cada página sientes como que las piezas del puzzle se mueven para todos lados, así que te mantiene enganchado de principio a fin. Una de las cosas que más me gustó es cómo profundiza en los personajes, Sofía y Daniel te los presentan como víctimas de un mundo político y social que los aplasta.. la lucha interna de cada uno por no perderse a sí mismos y proteger a los que quieren es algo que te llega, sobre todo con Sofía, que ves cómo su forma de ser está siempre amenazada por un sistema machista que la quiere sumisa y sin ambiciones.. esa forma tan real de mostrarlo me hizo acordar lo mal que el mundo se comportaba, y como algunos aún lo hacen..

El libro toca temas que nos tocan a todos: el amor, el misterio, las mentiras, la traición, el perdón y encontrarte a ti mismo, todo eso mezclado en una trama donde los personajes tienen que tomar decisiones súper difíciles para sobrevivir en un mundo que los ahoga.. el cómo la autora une todos esos temas es una maravilla, hace que cada parte de la historia sume a algo más grande y emocionante, sin que se sienta falso ni forzado.

But let's see, it's not that it's completely perfect either, there were parts where I felt it was a little bit long, like things were getting slow at certain moments... also, sometimes, the change between the family drama and the spy stuff was very sudden, you know? But be careful, that doesn't take away from the good things, on the contrary, those little flaws made me appreciate more everything it tells you about the story and what this book makes you feel... if I have to say who I recommend "Sofia's Suspicion" for, it's for those who like to read stories that mix true history, mystery and a good family drama, it's ideal if you like historical novels and if you get hooked on spy stories and secrets from the past. And if you also like to think about how women fight to be themselves in places where they are not allowed, this book will touch your soul, it is like a roller coaster of emotions, each page makes you doubt everything and immerses you in a story full of details and surprises, the way the author uses the Cold War and Francoism to talk about relationships between people and the decisions they force you to make is, for me, the best part of the book.

In the end, I was left with a bittersweet taste: I admired how brave the characters are and how complicated the story is, but it also made me sad to see how the era and society turned off so many good things... but that mix of feelings is what makes this book so good, so if you are looking for a novel that makes you vibrate, laugh, cry and, above all, think, give "La sospecha de Sofía" a chance. Pero a ver, tampoco es que sea del todo perfecta, hubo partes donde sentí que se alargaba un poquito, como que se ponía lenta la cosa en algunos momentos.. también, a veces, el cambio entre el drama de la familia y el rollo de espías era como muy de repente, ¿entienden? Pero ojo, que eso no le quita lo bueno, al contrario, esos pequeños fallos hicieron que valorara más todo lo que te cuenta de historia y lo que te hace sentir este libro.. si tengo que decir para quién recomiendo "La sospecha de Sofía", es para los que les gusta leer historias que mezclan historia de verdad, misterio y un buen drama de familia, es ideal si te gustan las novelas históricas y si te enganchan las historias de espías y secretos del pasado. Y si además te gusta pensar en cómo las mujeres luchan por ser ellas mismas en lugares donde no las dejan, este libro te va a llegar al alma, es como una montaña rusa de emociones, cada página te hace dudar de todo y te sumerge en una historia llena de detalles y sorpresas, la forma en que la autora usa la Guerra Fría y el franquismo para hablar de las relaciones entre personas y las decisiones que te obligan a tomar es, para mí, lo mejor del libro.

Al final, me quedé con un sabor agridulce: admiré lo valientes que son los personajes y lo complicada que es la historia, pero también me dio tristeza ver cómo la época y la sociedad les apagaron tantas cosas buenas.. pero esa mezcla de sentimientos es lo que hace que este libro sea tan bueno, así que si buscas una novela que te haga vibrar, reír, llorar y, sobre todo, pensar, dale una chance a "La sospecha de Sofía". Yo, de verdad, le doy un 4.5/5 estrellas por lo bien que mezcla la historia, el misterio y las emociones.. y bueno, eso sería todo por hoy.. espero que les haya gustado esta reseña, nos veremos pronto!
