REVIEW: The Power of Now: A guide to inner peace in the present [ENG// ESP]

We are not doing well if we live thinking about the past or if we always live with one foot in the future, if your mind is always there then what about your life in the now? Are you being conscious of the decisions and actions you are taking in the present or are you just being a machine that doesn't reason? That's how hard I got the premises of this book I'm here to tell you about today. A book that at first I didn't think so, I thought it was about Buddha meditation and blah-blah-blah, but no; it has left me with deeper insights than I thought.

Hello my people of Hive Book Club, long time no be with you here and today I want to bring you a good gift. Let's talk about the book ‘The Power of Now’ in my opinion it is a guide that invites us to discover inner peace and fulfillment through the practice of mindfulness in the present moment. Eckhart Tolle, the author, presents us with the idea that most of us live trapped in our minds, constantly worrying about the past or the future, which prevents us from experiencing the true happiness and freedom that resides in the now.

One of the central concepts of the book is that of the ego, that inner voice that has tattooed me on many occasions because it is a voice that judges us, compares us and keeps us in a state of anxiety and suffering. Tolle also talks about the ‘pain body’, an accumulation of negative emotions from the past that we carry inside us and that can be activated at any moment, causing pain and suffering.

In the book the author takes us through a series of questions and situations and then shows us the key to freeing ourselves from these negative patterns. Ultimately he shows us how to learn to pay attention to the present moment, the only real moment that exists.

Through the practice of mindfulness, we can become observers of our thoughts and emotions, without judging or identifying with them. Tolle offers us various tools and teachings to cultivate this awareness, such as observing thoughts, paying attention to the sensations of the body, and accepting the present moment as it is. By practising these teachings, we can transcend the ego and connect with our true essence, experiencing the peace and joy that are inherent to our being.

‘The Power of Now is a book that has resonated with millions of people around the world, offering a practical and accessible guide to finding inner peace amidst the chaos of modern life. Its timeless message and transformative teachings remain relevant today, inviting us to awaken to present moment awareness and live a fuller, more meaningful life.

I confess that for me in particular I was hooked, at one point I felt I couldn't stop reading it because I had found a lot of answers to how to live and best of all it was all in one place.

In 2008, a friend asked me to buy this book and read it with her. She never did follow up, but I read the whole thing and learned some things, but also felt frustrated by the way he got to have a revelation in the night, just as C.S. Lewis got his during a bike ride, and Leslie D. Whitehead (author of "The Christian Agnostic") saw a glorious light illuminating everyone on the train, and suddenly, he feels great love for everyone...
For all the prisoners, bedridden invalids, exiles, and sad people everywhere, I had to save this cartoon that summed up my feeling about Giving Thanks Always (Corrie Ten Boom, "The Hiding Place"), trusting that all is well and all shall be well (St. Julian of Norwich) ....

"Will you shut up with the stupid quotes from that stupid book?!"

But don't get me wrong - the power of the MIND to influence outcomes -
I know Tolle is right, and we can rethink our outlook on life, and be more positive, and all that.

We can drop negativity!
All problems are illusions of the mind

So, my sister murdered at 18, the neighbor dead in a car wreck at age three (his mom collided with her sister-in-law close to home) ... the tragedies that inspire opera, great fiction, and new religions...

The first time I read the book, I hated it. Recently my son mentioned it, so I revisited it, and found myself wishing I had internalized the message to DETACH, to overcome negativity, to ...

Oh the books I've read, oh the good messages I've wanted to internalize, but didn't.

Thanks for the review!

I love how you describe living with your mind trapped between the past and the future, as if the present is just an uncomfortable bridge. The “body ache” thing got me thinking.... How many times we carry old emotions without even noticing it, right? 😅 What strikes me the most is that thing about observing thoughts without judging them. Sounds simple, but it must be a daily challenge (my mind is a 24/7 overthinking machine!). Thanks for the recommendation!

It is never good to worry about the past, each day I make sure that I free my mind, and if it wants to get bigger than me, I yelled it out, breathe in and breathe out, we need to keep good vibes every times.
